GEMMA'S POV: "Good night." I blew a kiss to the girls changing and moved to scan my thumb to clock out. I walked back out the front door, making sure the new door to the back room closed before moving away from it. I smiled at some guys who smiled at me and I saw Avery and Marcus talking by their office and I pushed open the front door, pulling out my phone to see what time the next bus was coming. I shifted around as I walked across the parking lot, and that's when I felt it, or rather heard it. Someone was behind me. I didn't panic, maybe someone was just going to their car. I put my hand in my purse, anyway, finding my pepper spray first and holding it tight. I got to the sidewalk and stayed up the street to the corner with the bus stop, and that's when I felt it. He had gripped my ponytail and pulled me back hard until I was spiraling. I pulled out my pepper spray and caught myself. I turned quickly, spraying the guy who had a grip on my shirt now. He pulled me close and I turned my head away as I sprayed and tried not to get any in my own eyes. I get a bit in my right eye and the guy was spewing profanity and that's when he grabbed my neck, squeezing and calling me a b***h. He punched me and I screeched and clenched my teeth before rearing my knee up, remembering what TV taught me, and hitting him hard between his legs. It wasn't until he dropped that I noticed it was Frank. I blinked hard until I realized I got a good amount of pepper spray in my eye too. I covered it and jogged slowly back to the club and when I headed into the back, I caught a bit of attention from Marcus and he waved his hand in the air and I knew he and Avery would be coming back to check on me. I got to the bathroom and tried to clean out my eyes before the door hit the wall and I heard Avery calling my name. "Just rinsing out some pepper spray." I called back and that's when I heard him coming closer. The keys on his belt always gave him away. "Let me see." He pushed back some of my hair, taking my chin with an open hand and he made me look at him. "What happened?" "Frank followed me around the parking lot and grabbed my hair." I told him and he shook his head and looked over my face as he got a paper towel and wet it and let it sit on my eye. "I sprayed him, he pulled me closer by my neck and I kept spraying, so he punched me, and I ended up kneeing him and he let me go." I told him and Avery's jaw clenched. "I think he's still out there." "Marcus will go get him." He told me and I just nodded and blinked and hissed. "Let me see again Gemma." He pulled at the paper towel. He shook his head and I just looked over his face. Avery was handsome. Tall, sculpted, tanned, dimples... literal hot guy in every cliché movie ever. He touched my cheek and I pulled away and he sighed. "What?" I asked and he made a face. "You're going to have a bruise, or a swollen cheek." He told me and I sighed. It wouldn't be first time Monica saw me with a black eye, but it would be the first in a while. "Come on, I will take you home and get you iced up." He held out his hand for me and I started to walk on unsteady feet. It wasn't that I was hurt, but the shock was hitting me, and I still felt a bit of pain in my eyes, so I didn't see very well. "I only live a couple blocks away." I told him and he nodded slowly and made sure to steer me around. I watched him grab some keys, and then he was guiding my back out. I heard Marcus shouting, and I looked around and saw him with a bouncer, holding Frank. "Are you guys going to just let him go?" "No. Marcus is by the book when it comes to things like this. We are going to call the cops, we will tell them your address, they will come and take your statement, and he will be taken into custody." "Ok. Well he will look for my address, right?" I asked knowing that was how they knew where I lived. "Yep. And if it isn't the same one I take you to, I will pass it along." Avery brought me around and I stood in front of a bike. I paused, never being on one before I wasn't sure how to get on, or if I even got on first. He helped me swing a leg over and told me to wrap my arms around his middle and hold on tight. To lean when he turned, and I just bit my lip and did as he told me. I felt his body under my hands, and I hated how I wanted to keep feeling it all. AVERY'S POV: I was livid. Frank shouldn't have been on the property, and he had been waiting for her? Why? She wasn't the one who fired him. She didn't say anything about him. f**k how were the bouncers outside not f*****g doing their job. They were supposed to protect the girls, making sure they got to their rides, or their own cars. That included Gemma. She was a girl, well, a woman. She was definitely a woman. I could feel her t**s against my back, her thighs against mine, and her hands were small and exploring my chest as I drove the six blocks down, and one block up. I got to her house, feeling her slap my stomach as we got in front. I looked at it, it was cute. Small, one story, probably two bedrooms, a bath, a kitchen and a living room. It was cute for a single person home. I helped her off before getting off and making sure she didn't trip over the stairs. She got her keys out and opened up. "Felicity." She called out and I wondered who that was. Roommate? "Hi. I was just finishing up and saving my essay for school." I was more than shocked to see a kid come around the corner. She smiled as she looked from Gemma to me, and she then saw the bruise and red eye that she was sporting. "Are you ok?" "Yes. Some guy hurt her, but she got him with pepper spray and a few choice hits. She got a bit in her eye." I told the girl and she nodded. "Are you off to bed?" I asked knowing that we might be in her way. "Well... I am heading home." She looked confused and I heard Gemma going through her purse, and I saw her pull out two bills and hand them over. "See you tomorrow night." "I'll see you out." She moved to walk her out and I followed Gemma, watching the kid walk across the street then to the small complex, and then the light flickered. Gemma turned and walked back inside with me and I just followed again. I felt so f*****g lost. "So, I take it that wasn't your sister?" I asked and she laughed. She sat down slowly and smiled and rubbed over her face. "My sister is in grade school. Felicity watches her at night when I work at the club, and I make sure to give her some of my tips. My sister is in bed-" "No." I looked over at the even smaller voice and saw a little girl, that kind of looked like Gemma. "What are you doing up kid? You know you have school tomorrow." Gemma moved closer to getting up and I watched their interaction. "I heard Licy. She asked what happened. I wanted to make sure you were okay." The little girl went for her and I watched the sweet little moment as Gemma kissed her forehead and whispered something in her ear I couldn't hear. "This is Avery, he is kind of my boss, he brought me home." "Hi Avery." The little girl waved at me and gave me a smile and I smiled back. "Hi." "I'm Monica. My sissy calls me Monnie." She told me and I nodded slowly and looked to Gemma. "Well... I am pleasured to meet you Monica. How old are you?" I asked and she kind of went into details about her birthday, and then her age, and then her school year. As soon as she yawned, I saw Gemma swoop in. It was kind of how Jackie worked around Cami now. It was a little funny. "Good night Avery." She waved at me as she passed by with Gemma, and I waited until she was inside the room before shaking my head and smiling. "Good night Monica." I called out and moved to sit on the couch as well. I kind of sank it, but it was still comfortable. I waited for a minute or two before Gemma seemed to feel her way around the wall and we were kind of just looking at each other. "Do you have ice?" "Yeah..." She gulped and looked towards the fridge and I was up before her first step and heading to get it for her. She pulled out the chair near the kitchen table and I made sure to set the ice right on her eye. She kept it against her eye and her cheek, and I waited for a moment before sitting at the table with her. "You can go. I don't want to keep you-" "I'm fine. Are you tired?" "After what happened? I don't think I can sleep" She told me and gave a nervous laugh but that made me worry just a bit. Was this going to make her quit? "Are you going to be okay?" I asked her and she laughed. "This isn't my first hit." She waved it off, and my worry went right to anger. "Men have hit you at the club before?" I asked and her eyes went a little wide before she shook her head. "A boyfriend-" "No. No man." She stood up slowly, bumping her knee on the table before stumbling over the chair leg and I was there in a blink. Steading her, making sure that she was upright. "I'm fine, maybe I am tired." "Who has hurt you before? Joey G?" "No. Please, Avery... it's embarrassing enough that I have been hit before, don't make me tell you who hit me-" "You said it wasn't a man? A girlfriend?" I through quick, and she shook her head and seemed that she really wanted me to drop it. "Just tell me that they don't hurt you anymore." I told her and she took a breath and looked me in the eye, taking the ice pack away, before nodding. "They don't hurt me anymore." She told me, and it sounded like a promise. "I'll be fine. I was just saying... the adrenaline from having to kick and fight him off is still kind of pumping through my body and add on that was my first time on a motorcycle... it's just a big night. Kind of." "Glad I could be your first." I smirked, hoping to get a smile from her, but I got a stuttering mess and I wondered if she had thought about her and me together in a more biblical sense. I smirked even wider when she said something about watching TV before going to bed. I just smirked and moved with her to the couch. Fuck, she had a swollen face, and innocent eyes. Her body language shouted that she was nervous, but her smiles were showing me it was because it was a new concept to her. I stayed for an hour and helped put her to bed. She was sort of sleep walking into her bed and she made sure to take her hair out of the braids she had, and I backed out, made sure to lock her door up as I left. I pulled my bike out of her little empty driveway and started it when I was far enough away. Heading home to the small lonely house my sister gave me when she moved in with Lucien. For some reason, as I laid in bed wishing for sleep, there was a small part of me that actually wished there was someone to cuddle up to and around so the hole in me would close up just a bit.
