Chapter 31
What happened next took a very long time. The police cuffed me at first, but let me out of the cuffs and apologized when they saw my ID and clarified that I had been attacked by three men in my own apartment. They ushered me out of there, had somebody check me out for injuries, and asked me a lot of questions. The fact that I had killed one of the attackers with nothing more than a vodka bottle seemed to creep them out, but there was no denying I had acted in self-defense and they would have given me the benefit of the doubt anyway because I’m law enforcement. As my apartment was a crime scene, I was told to go stay in a hotel for a few nights. For some perverse reason, I chose the motel we’d been staking out when this whole thing started.
