I have to admit, there was a deep sense of rightness and satisfaction in knowing that the Mayor Gundarrson case was connected to Father. I could pursue the mayor, secure in the knowledge that I was also pursuing my own objectives. Nelson would not have to worry about any more complaints from me.
Of course, there was the fact that I could barely even move at all without groaning in pain. But I was too close to let that stop me. I did have a vague sense that the completion of my mission would probably mean the end of my career with the FBI, and might also mean that I would go to prison – depending on how it all played out.
