Conrad “Nervous?” Callum questioned as he watched me get dressed. Was I nervous? “A little bit,” I admitted. It wasn’t unusual – in fact, it was perfectly normal – for me to be getting ready for a date. However, I wasn’t just getting ready for a date with someone that had caught my attention. Ronnie was my mate. Not only that, but she is also Callum’s mate. I still couldn’t quite put that behind me, which made all of this so difficult. “You’ll be fine,” Cal remarked as he crossed my room to sit on the edge of my bed. “Besides, is it wrong for me to be a bit jealous?” I stopped buttoning up my shirt as I slowly turned to face him. “Not jealous of you…actually the word jealous is probably wrong. I’m envious that you are going to be spending time with her…this isn’t coming out right,” “Um…” I had no idea what to say. A small part of me understood – more or less. “I’m sorry, I’m ruining it for you. I want the best for you, you know that…I just wish I was going to spend time with my mate as well,” “Yeah,” I muttered before I turned back to the mirror. “Sorry,” Cal whispered, but the damage had already been done. I sighed as I finished buttoning up the shirt and took a good look at myself. “You look great,” he commented, but I ignored him as I went through my mental checklist. Wallet, check. Phone, check. Car keys, check. House keys, check. Once I made sure I had everything, I checked the time. I was running a tiny bit late, so I turned back to Callum. “I’ll be home later,” I said awkwardly before I hurried out of the room. I loved my brother, but this was either going to bring us closer or tear us apart. At this point in time, I had no idea how this was going to end. I sped into Skaydal as quickly as the speed limit would let me. The diner was relatively busy, but I wasn’t interested in the diner. No, I was interested in the apartment above the diner. I took the stairs two at a time before I stopped in front of the door. I should have gotten flowers or something. I suddenly felt like a fool for showing up empty-handed. I considered running down to the store to get her something, but the door opened. “How come you didn’t knock?” Ronnie asked as she eyed me closely. “I didn’t get you anything,” I blurted out and she smiled. “That’s ok, I don’t need materialistic things,” she remarked as she stepped aside. “Come on in,” I stepped inside, and I knew I had messed up. Materialistic things are one thing, but doing something romantic, like giving flowers, is a whole other ball game. However, as she closed the door behind me, I knew the moment had passed and I silently vowed to make it up to her. “Smells great in here,” I remarked politely as I looked around the apartment. “Oh yeah…dinner,” Ronnie said as she headed into the kitchen. I wanted to slap myself for messing everything up. “Are you sure it’s the dinner?” I questioned softly as I joined her in the kitchen. “Because you look amazing,” I complimented. Ronnie blushed as she turned to face me and, finally, I had done something right. “This is going to be very hard,” I then whispered as I stared into her eyes. “Why?” she asked breathlessly. “Because all I want to do is pull you into my arms and kiss you,” I admitted. Ronnie’s cheeks went a darker shade and I felt proud. “Who said you can't?” she asked, and I groaned as I reached out and gently tugged her toward me. “Because the first time I kiss you, I want to make sure that everything is perfect,” “Isn't this perfect?” “I messed up,” I said as I lowered my gaze. “Hey…just because you didn’t come here bearing gifts, doesn’t mean you messed up. Sure, it would have been sweet, but…I’m not a flower type of girl. Look around, Conrad…what do you see?” I glanced around the kitchen, and I noticed that the space was spotless. Everything was in its place and there was nothing unnecessary on the counters. No flowers. No ornaments. Nothing. Not even a cloth. I glanced over my shoulder and the living room was much the same. “I like words…romance me with words,” “I can do that…but…I also wanted to bring you something…I should have,” “Maybe, but that doesn’t bother me, Conrad. What I want is the connection between us,” she said as she gazed up at me. Her cheeks were a lovely shade of pink and her eyes sparkled. I slowly leaned in as I made sure she knew that she could pull away. She didn’t move and I closed the distance between us. That first connection as our lips touched sent shivers of electricity through my body. Ronnie threw her arms around my neck and within seconds she was firmly pressed up against me with my hands gripping her hips. She felt perfect against me and as I licked at her lips, she let out the smallest moan that made me groan in response. Ronnie slowly parted her lips, letting me in to taste her completely. I was hooked. I had never felt this way in my life before I devoured her as the sounds of our kissing filled my ears. All I could feel was her, all I could smell was her scent and all I wanted was for this moment to never end. “Ok?” I whispered when we pulled apart. Ronnie looked up at me with her lust-filled eyes and I took in her appearance. Her hair was slightly a mess, and her lips were puffy from my kisses. She looked perfect, so I decided to use my words. “That was perfect, and you look ravished,” I said with a smile.
