“Oh, and I thought I saw someone behind a tree,” he said. “Did you? Or do you just think you did?” I asked. He shrugged. “I don"t know if I did. It was hard to see in the dark and fog.” “Maybe you"d better not put it down. But it was spooky, wasn"t it?” I remembered that the owl and crickets had gone quiet just before all of those things happened.
