"I can see it."
Carter's hand gently stroked my stomach, his cool fingers shaking against the protruding skin.
Five months. I had breathed the words, heard them spoken, but the reality had not hit me yet. Not even close. The idea of life growing inside me would probably seem surreal until the very moment I held the baby in my arms. Time had been flowing by, faster than I ever thought possible. Whether the universe, Carter, the King, or I thought I was ready, the baby was coming.
"I cannot believe how close we are."
I always smiled when Carter spoke about us as one entity.
"And tomorrow I will be eighteen."
