chapter twelve: heartbroken

1108 Words
Doctors appeared, taking their Luna out of the King's arms and he stood there shell-shocked, not knowing what to do. They wouldn't let anyone in and all he could do was sit on the chairs of the waiting room and stare ahead. He could hear hearts beating rapidly and he knew that he was one of them. His face turned pale as he listened in on what the doctors were saying, something about a blood transition. He choked back a sob. He was a King, an Alpha King. No one except his mate and family would see that side of him. But he couldn't help it, a tear escaped his eyes and more followed. His blue eyes slowly turned red and swollen. He covered his face with his hands and leaned on his elbows. Marcus, Demetri and Artemis had arrived a few minutes ago, but he didn't talk with any of them. As if, he couldn't hear them. All he could focus on was Sophia's heartbeat. It was his remedy at the moment. It made him realise that she was alive and fighting death. But it also pained him. His little mate was fighting for her life while he couldn't do anything. He couldn't help with anything but someone else could, someone had to. The witches told him that they know nothing about their leader's plan but he didn't believe them one bit. So he sent a few wolves their to keep watch until he could deal with them. He had forgotten about his step-brother who had to send a letter asking why he hadn't shown up yet but Demetri explained the situation to him and he totally understood, after all, his own mate was in danger. A doctor came out of the room, sweaty but Theo didn't even give him attention. He was just staring in front of him, eyes void of any emotions except heartbreak. Marcus got up from his seat and talked with the doctor. They needed blood to perform surgery and they needed his blood. He agreed, leaving the waiting room to give blood. And then, there was silence. Theo stood up, startling everyone. He let out a loud growl. "My mate". His voice was almost inhuman. He walked towards the door, trying to get inside but his brother stopped. "Where are you going? You can't go in there" but the King wouldn't budge. "MY MATE!" He tore down the door and glared at everyone. He snarled and everyone flinched. Marcus walked inside the room and yelled at him to get out and let them do their job but he didn't. He stared at them, mind linking them to continue as he stood in the middle of the room. "Save my mate!" - - - - - - - - - - - - - She was numb and felt like she was floating. There was silence and for once, she loved it. She loved not hearing anyone. She was at peace. Peace and quiet. She liked it and she was ready to give in to it, give into the darkness. That's until that peace and quiet were ruined by an annoying beeping sound. She felt like she was lying on a bed and something was poking her palm. She groaned. And then, opened her eyes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Marcus sat on the floor of the waiting room with Artemis in his arms. She whimpering and something was telling him that everyone in the Black Moon pack was. They could feel their Luna dying and their Alpha being in pain. Marcus silently cried as his mate moved and hugged him instead. "She's a fighter. She's going to make it" "What if she doesn't? Artemis, that's my little sister" he cried, pain evident in his voice and expression. "My little Sophie" "She's going to make it!" Demetri said from across the room. He was crying too. "She promised to meet my mate, so she has to be there. She just has to" "Oh, my little Sophia" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Theo growled as he stared at his sleeping - dying - mate in pain. He couldn't stand watching her like this, all he wanted to do was hold her in his arms and never let her go. How can you fall in love with someone in so little time? He could tell that everyone could feel his pain, he didn't care to close the bond with them he just wanted her back. He wanted her smiling at him, snapping at him, fuming at him, he didn't care. He wanted her to be alive. He didn't even give a f**k if she didn't want him, he loved her and he wanted her to live. She was too young. She was barely an adult, for f**k's sake. He snapped. He got up from his seat and walked closer to her and kissed her forehead. "I love you! Please, come back to me" Tears ran down his cheeks as he cried. And then, she opened her eyes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - After a few tests, talking with her brother and everyone else, she realised she was exhausted. She wanted to sleep for an eternity and never wake up. She ran a hand through her brown hair and sighed. She closed her eyes, trying to relax but the infirmary bed was uncomfortable. She wanted her old bed back, the one that always somehow smelled like Theo. She opened her eyes when she realised someone was watching her. Her mate was sitting in front of her bed with puffy red eyes. She gasped. She stared across the room as he ran his hands through his hair, tugging at it. He looked like he was ready to cry, ready to break down and he wasn't afraid to do it in front of her and every other wolf in the infirmary that was listening. "You died, Sophia. Your heart stopped beating" he almost screamed as he looked at her. His usual light blue eyes were now navy blue -like a deadly hurricane. "It stopped beating and it felt like someone ripped half of my heart out of my chest. You stopped breathing, Sophia. I almost lost you" He was full-on crying now and she felt like she wanted to cry too. She has never seen him so vulnerable. "But it started beating again. I'm here Theo, I won't leave you again I promise" "Don't make promises you can't keep, love."
