The Big Idea

Scott left my room in a storm. I stood there in shock. Starting into thin air, as I broke down into tears.

"why won't he reject it," I asked Elijah, and he let out a sigh..

Coming close and trying to comfort me. He stared at me, only for so long, and he started speaking in a bid to calm me down.

"Ever since I was chosen to be Alpha and not Scott, he has never been on the opposing side of my father much, he just accepts whatever is being dished out to him, it feels like his voice has been snatched away from him. I think the shame and humiliation of putting me high above him has really kicked him off his high horse, he has become so carefree about life, that hedoesn't seem to care anymore.

The only thing and person I know that he cares for so much is his girlfriend. It may come as a shock to you but yes, Scott has a girlfriend whom he loves and adores a whole lot.

I overheard him fighting and arguing with my father. He doesn't want this union either but there's only so much he can do. My father threatened to banish him from the pack, disown him and rip

Off the family name away from him totally if he disobeys him.

Father even pushed him and told him to show action that he was going to become your mate and show interest in the u ion by coming to pay you a visit .

I recalled the incident where Scott's girlfriend approached me and decided not to say anything about it.

This decision by my father is really a ruthless one, he's ruining lives and he doesn't want even care," Elijah said.

"Will I still be vour Gamma?" I asked with my head bowing in sadness. I had no intention of becoming Scotts mate. All I have always wanted to be Elijah’s mate.

Elijah shook his head and said, "Yes, you will still be my Gamma unless you decide to quit because of the circumstances, but I won't hold any grudge against you, you'll always be my friend."

I needed some time alone to process and accept the situation because this was too much.Even Elijah had already accepted this.

I stayed in bed all day while Caleb left my house in a depressed state. I was unable to cheer up despite my parents' efforts. I declined it. I loathed them, and I couldn't stand my life. I would have welcomed Alpha's decision to join Elijah and me. who is Scott?

I endured fourteen days crying and sulking about this decision, even though I was surenothing was going to change. I didn't go to parties or events, and I didn't think I would in the near future, because I could foretell how miserable my life would be.

Luna Sandra paid us two visits to discuss the arrangements with my parents. She seemed excited and really impressed with the supposed mate she was forcing on her son.

Alpha Damien Brook mated with Sandra after Scotts' mother passed away when he was only a baby. Since then, everyone has referred to Sandra as Scott’s mother, but he has always consistently pointed out that she is not his mother. The woman didn't matter to him in any way .

Despite the fact that I knew it was impossible to run, impossible to hide away, all I wanted to do deep down was vanish, to disappear.

That week, Elijah got into a lot of trouble with Alpha Damien. I didn't get to see my friend because his father blamed it on his inactivity and gave him some responsibilities and obligations to make him feel more accountable and to sit up..

I dreaded the fact that I would soon be given to Scott.The thought scared me. At least no day was fixed yet, that gave me some sort of comfort .

Elena," my mother greeted me. I had made the decision to remain inside ever since they informed me of the arrangement. I wanted no one to see me. The entire pack and nation would have been aware by this point that Scott Damien, Lord arsehole, and I were going to meet. I have been receiving numerous threats and warning messages from unidentified individuals.

A few minutes later, I heard my mama call me again to come downstairs. I was still in my Pyjamas but I didn't mind. I went downstairs and found Alpha Damien and his family in my living room .

Unconcerned, I greeted them politely. If he weren't the Alpha of our clan, I sure wouldn't have greeted him in that manner.

My mama looked at me with a whole lot of disappointment of which I hoped the family of Aloha Damien Brook will do the same. But Luna Sandra Damien still looked at me smiling and reassuring how beautiful, well-mannered and courageous I was.

I still couldn't understand her sudden love and admiration for me. I quickly turned my gaze to Scott, I could tell he was sad, for the first time since this whole mating arrangement began , I wasn’t thinking about myself.

I wondered what it must be like for Scott, at the very least, I had supportive parents, urging me that everything was going to be fine, but he had no one .

Elena, Alpha Damien Brook called out and I responded without haste, just as a Gamma should, with my Cheste upright and my hand flinging into a salute.

Scott eyed Alpha Damien scornfully but he dare not disobey him.

I was thrown off and I sincerely did not know how to respond to him but at this point he had hurt me , he disrespected my parent and also insulted me , I pushed even harder to hurt him.

Atleast, I could assume the rank of a Gamma, but you will never amount to anything, you will never be an Alpha , you’ll watch your younger brother take control over the pack , he’ll rule over you .

I saw him flinch, he raised his hands high in the air, he was bold, domineering and where Elijah asked for respect I could see that Scott commanded it, I realized how much this hurt him but I didn’t care cause he started it.

You better watch your mouth young lady, you will never be my mate and I have someone who I love and adore greatly.

We walked back to the sitting room and we both had smiles on our face .

Everyone looked impress but I was more impressed with the new development.

Elena’s POV

Scott left the room angrily as soon as Elijah got in while I stood there weeping silently.

“Why is he doing this to me, Elijah? Why won’t he just reject it?” I asked Elijah with tears in my eyes and he rushed over to me before sweeping me in his arms as he hugged me passionately, trying to comfort me.

“You can’t really blame Scott. Ever since I was chosen to be Alpha in his stead, he has never been on the opposing side of my father. He just obeys my father like a slave to a master. He doesn’t have a voice of his own anymore. It’s that bad.” Elijah explains with a sad sigh.

“I think the shame and humiliation of putting me high above him took a toll on him. He’s no longer bothered about anything and lives his life as he pleases. The only thing he seems to care about is his girlfriend. As funny as it sounds, Scott actually loves and adores her.” He said with a low chuckle and my eyes widen slightly. I certainly didn’t see that coming. Who would have thought that Scott could actually care about someone.

“You know, I actually overheard him arguing with my father about this same matter. Believe it or not, he also doesn’t want this union either but his hands are tied. Father threatened to banish him from the pack if he disobeys him. Look at how he made him come here to pay you a visit and act like he’s actually interested.” He continues and I nod in understanding. It was all starting to make sense to me. He was as helpless as I was.

The incident where Scott’s girlfriend approached me flashes through my mind but I shut my mouth.

“Father’s decision is a really ruthless one. He’s ruining lives and he doesn’t even care.” Elijah says but I can sense a double meaning in his statement, his sad eyes made it really obvious.

“Will I still be your gamma?” As the words leave my lips, I shut my eyes, praying that his response will be positive. I have never wanted to be Scott’s mate. The only thing I’ve wanted is to be by Elijah’s side.

He uses his thumb to hold my chin, raising my head up to meet him. “Of course, unless you decide to quit because of the circumstances, but you should know that I won’t hold it against you. We’ll always be friends, Elena.” He assures me with a bright smile. I internally grimaced at the thought of having to be just friends with Elijah. I would need some time to process and then accept this situation because this was too much.

Exactly five minutes later, mother’s voice came again from the living room but this time around, there was some seriousness in it so I lazily drag my feet off the bed, bit caring that I was still in my pajamas.

When I get there, I see Alpha Damien seated gracefully. I want to pounce on him so badly and ask why he was doing this to me but I say nothing and greet politely. If he wasn’t the Alpha of our clan then nothing would have made me greet him in that manner. He is was a thoughtless and wicked man to me.

Mother looked at me, her eyes filled with disappointment but I couldn’t care less. Instead, I hoped the family of Alpha Damien would do the same but Luna Sandra still sat beside her mate, looking at me with a proud smile. I couldn’t understand why she suddenly loved and adored me. She barely knew me.

I tilt my head in Scott’s direction, that’s when I notice that his countenance was sad and for the first since this whole mating arrangement begun, I think about someone other than myself.

I wondered what it must be like for Scott with all of this going on. I at least had my parents who kept supporting me and assuring me that everything would be fine but he had no one.

“Elena.” Alpha Damien called out I respond immediately just as a gamma should.

“Congratulations on being a gamma, Elena. I must admit, you deserve it more than anyone.” He compliments and I nod my head, muttering a small ‘ thank you ’.

“Scott.” He calls out and Scott turns to his father. “You should take a walk with your mate-to-be. You know, so you can get to know each other better.” He completes and my eyes nearly fall out of their socket. My bitter expression was so obvious and I made no attempt to hide it. I wasn’t going to act like I was happy with this just because Alpha Damien is here.

Scott eyed his father but was quick to hide it. He would never disobey the Alpha, not to his face at least.

“Don’t get ideas into your head. I have no interest in you, neither do I want you to be my mate.” Scott says the second we leave the elders and I turn to him with a smirk.

“Glad to know the feeling is mutual.” I say loud enough for him to hear and his jaw hardens, his eyes throwing hateful glare at me.

“You know, my father paid your parents a huge amount of money, alongside a promise for a stable future. You should have seen how eager they were to sell you off. But, I can’t blame them. You’re all a bunch of low class gold diggers who are ready to get any freebies they can.” He spits harshly to my face and it takes everything in me to not pounce on him.

He was really testing my patience.

His eyes scan my face and sees how pissed off I was by his statement, rather than apologizing, he scoffed and continued to speak.

“I see you have a temper. Makes me wonder how you got the position of a gamma. You must’ve slept your whole way through the top. That’s all you low lives do, sell yourselves to whoever is willing to buy.” He chuckles evilly, enjoying the torture he was putting me through.

“Elijah whom you fangirl over doesn’t even look at you twice. Since you couldn’t get him you decided to settle for me, yes? I’ll tell you something. The only thing my family has to offer you is money, power and fame but trust me, all that glitters isn’t gold. We’re more messed up than you think.” He finishes and leans back on the wall as though he was waiting for me to say something but I couldn’t. I was tongue tied.

I was completely thrown off my everything he just said and I didn’t know how to respond. Not only did he disrespect and insult me, he also did same to my parents. It was only right that I go lower.

“I am now a gamma, at least. But you, you’ll never amount to anything. You’ll never become an Alpha, instead, you’ll watch your younger brother take control of the pack and rule over you.” There was a satisfied look on my face as I spoke the bitter truth to his face.

He was beyond pissed at this point, his fists clenched in anger as his face grew red. I realized how much this hurt him but I didn’t care since he started it. He was only having a taste of his own medicine

“You better watch your mouth, Elena. You’ll never be my mate, you hear me. I have someone I love.” He says as though he was telling me something I didn’t know.

“I don’t give two f***s about who you love. You just tell her to stay away from me.” His pupils dilate at this but he quickly covers it up.

“We can be a couple to the public eye, but I’ll still keep my girlfriend and you can keep screwing whoever you are screwing, as long as it stays a secret between us. You can never let anyone find out about this.” He states and I nod.

I was only doing this because of my father and mother so I really didn’t mind how he planned on living his life.

“This will be our secret.” I said with a smile, letting him know that I was in on the deal. This was the happiest I had been since I heard about being Scott’s mate.

We would have no problems living in the same house. Our rules are clear; we don’t love each other, we just have to pretend to the public that we do so we can scale through this.

We walked back to the seating room with a pretentious smile on both our faces. They were impressed that we were finally getting along.

This would be fun.
