While Zeenia was returning home it was quite dark, she had been thinking that though she had not looked at the contract properly, as to how much she was earning from her internship job. She assumed it was not much, for she was just out of her high school. Her father though had promised her, that he would cover any expenses as long as he could.
Her friend Tina had found a job in one of the local hospitals, as she wanted to become a nurse, and meet a doctor and get married, and have children. Zeenia on the other hand would have a career at the Advocates firm, one that she didn't want or ask for.
Zeenia reached her apartment, she took the elevator, and stepped off on the fifth floor. She opened the door lock with her set of keys and entered the apartment. She thanked God for reaching home safely. She suddenly found Tina all dressed up, and going for a date. Zeenia asked the name of the person that Tina was going out on a date with. But she coolly replied "Oh, I don't know his name yet" while combing her hair in the mirror. Zeenia asked her "What do you mean by that?"She replied that she was going with a few girls and guys, while she had information that the particular guy who she wanted to date, hangs at that club.
Zeenia sat down on one of the chairs and removed her heels. She glanced at Tina with a raised eyebrow. Tina knew that Zeenia did not approve of her choices and lifestyle.
Tina told her that the guy was also doing his internship. While speaking she was also adding a coat of red lipstick. But it was heights when she said that she was meeting this guy so that he could introduce her to a doctor, on whom Tina had her eye. Zeenia reminded her that, she had her eyes previously on a pediatric surgeon? But she replied that "I have changed my mind. The one I have my eye right now is a Plastic Surgeon. He would earn more money, and he would not be away all the time."
Zeenia thought that she would never understand this crazy girl and her equally crazy lifestyle.
Tina asked Zeenia to join her for the party if she had nothing to do tonight. Zeenia refused and said that she had a long day ahead the next day. Also, she had to wait for the mail to, check out her shift. Tina said that if you are not getting paid, why are you slogging so hard?
Zeenia said that she was paid, which took care of her rents, and her books. She also needed the name of the firm on her resume, she said.
Tina then asked her whether she still planned on going to Stanford, for further education? She replied that she did want to, but was hoping that they would offer her a scholarship for the first four years, while she would also continue working at someplace. Zeenia replied that her parents did save money for her education, but she did not want to take all their money. She thought that she might ask at the place where she was doing her internship, whether they would hire her for another three months so that she could save some more money.
Zeenia then told her friend about her boss, who had drop-dead gorgeous looks, but the looks he gave her suggested that he hated her. Her friend replied that "He must not be hating you, he must be wanting to take you to bed."
Zeenia replied that we might as well talk about something else. You are an absolute s*x maniac. You think only about that and nothing else.
Tina replied that "What else is there to talk about at our age? Men, money. Also, I have not been as lucky as you to get, good parents. I have been brought up in a foster home. I was molested by my foster father." She said that with a sad expression in her eyes.
Zeenia then understood that her friend was searching for someone, who would love her. At that moment she felt like hugging her tightly, but she knew that her friend didn't like hugs.
Tina said to Zeenia "Don't be shocked and don't feel sorry for me. If I knew, I would never have told you. All this taught me about men and about life. You are dreaming that you will fall in love with your Prince Charming, who will come someday, and sweep you off your feet, and he will take you away. You will then live happily ever after. But in my case, I am going after my Prince, good or bad. I am not waiting for him to come along someday."
Zeenia then confided in her that "You have me wrong, I don't want to get married. My mother says that my father is actually not my father. She says that I have a duty, to continue my real father's good work as a vampire killer."
Her friend replied that it could be possibly true, "You have blue eyes, while both your parents have black eyes. But then as far as I am concerned, I do believe in Vampires."
Zeenia suddenly realized that she had never known the other side of Tina. She had become friends with her because she made her laugh, but there were so many things that she had never known about Tina. Zeenia realized that what a difficult life her friend had faced. While she, on the other hand, was freaking out about her father, and a vampire and all those stuff. Though she had found those things crazy until she had met Ian Collin. She used to think it was a delusion that she had seen someone in her bedroom at night.
Tina then sat down, with a glass of wine in her hand, and told Zeenia to tell her more about the vampire thing.
Zeenia reminded her that she was planning to go, but Tina said she had some time in hand. Zeenia then told her, "I think that my mother is insane. I hope she is not my birth mother." But while saying that Zeenia realized what had she blurted out.
Tina told her that "Here I am searching for my birth mother, while you, on the other hand, have been giving away your mother. While she loves you so much. If she would have not loved you, she wouldn't have warned you about the vampires."
Zeenia said "My mother told me, that I come from people who hunt vampires, and that vampires are all around us. She warned me that I could be in danger because I know how to kill them." Zeenia then also poured a drink for herself. She then continued "I don't know a thing about killing those vampires." Tina then received a call, following which she bid goodbye and left. But before that, she told Zeenia that if she had a change of mind, she could join them at the bar across the street. While leaving Tina asked her, whether she was a lesbian?
Zeenia asked her, the reason why she questioned her that way?
Tina replied that "Nothing. I was just checking if you are, as I have a girlfriend, who is looking for a partner."
Zeenia replied that wasn't true at all, and told her to play a matchmaker somewhere else?
Tina then left, closing the door behind her.
