I stood on a mountain cliff watching the vast enchanted forest that used to be dark and gloomy. I seemed to have woken up to a new world. It was quiet and bright and no mythical creatures showed a memory of the past.
It’s been days since I woke up, but no, not days instead, years have passed from the last time I saw him. I closed my eyes to find him but I couldn’t. I tried saying his name in my mind but he has not spoken back. I tried seeing through his eyes and all I saw was darkness.
“How could you have completely forgotten me?” I asked myself.
My heart was aching every time I remember what Seth said.
“He doesn’t remember anything, your majesty. Even you.”
It hurts so much knowing that he doesn't know I existed, yet I felt happy that he will no longer be part of my world and get hurt all the time because of me. But I still want to see him, even just a glance. I closed my eyes and sighed deeply, but when I opened my eyes, I found myself standing on top of a tall building. I teleported without any intentions.
“I’m in the city?” I walked towards the ledge and looked down and saw the busy streets.
I turned my back away from the city and thought about going back to the forest where we belong, but then that scent crossed my nose. My eyes widened and my nose flared, knowing damn well that this is the only scent I have lived for.
I teleported on the street finding the ambrosial scent that I’ve longed to smell once more. A scent from the only creature I would die for. I could hear a strong heartbeat matching my heart. Then I heard his giggle. Time slowed down the moment I turned around.
There he was walking towards me; he was looking down on his phone and was smiling.
/Jinri… /
I called his name in my thoughts and like he heard it, he looked up and met my eyes. But like a stranger, he averted his eyes from me and passed me by not knowing that I was once a part of his life.
The moment he walked past me, I closed my eyes remembering every detail of his beautiful face and inhaled his intoxicating ambrosial smell that felt like a torture to my body and soul. I slowly turned to glance at him and watch him walk farther away from me.
/Jinri… My love, I miss you terribly… /
He stopped walking and glanced back, but before he could see me, I hid myself from the crowd of people. He continued walking and left with my bleeding heart.
I felt a tear of blood fall from the corner of my eye. I was in such pain that Seth and Hobbs came to my aid.
“Your majesty!” Seth appeared next to me and grabbed my arm.
“Your majesty, what’s wrong? Why are you here in the city?” Seth asked.
I stared at Seth, “I saw him Seth. I saw Jinri.”
“Jinri? You saw him? Where?”
“It doesn’t matter. You are right, he doesn’t remember me at all. He walked past me like I was just one of those strangers he passes by.”
I felt devastated, “so this is how it is. Loving someone but that someone doesn’t know that you exist.”
“Sera…” Seth patted my shoulder, “Let’s go home. This is not our place anymore.”
I nodded and looked at Hobbs, “guard him. Even if he doesn’t remember anything, I still do not want any harm to come to him.”
Hobbs bowed, “I will do my best to keep him safe, my king.”
Seth and I teleported back to the palace. Even the palace has not had traces of the war that came about five years ago. The city was almost destroyed and the palace was attacked by rogue vampires.
“Tell me what I missed when I slept for the last five years Seth. I want every detail.”
Seraphim sat down on his throne. He has his throne and the crown on his head is already a part of him since his mother’s passing. But he feels empty and incomplete.
He closed his eyes and covered his face with his palms. He peeked through his fingers as his second-in-command Seth walked closer to him. With his head bowed as he began to tell what happened.
“I was fighting Keiran and asked Saga to leave…” Seth stared into the sky as he told the story of what took place five years ago.
*
“Arrgghhh!” I backed away after Keiran managed to stab me with his hidden knife. He aimed for my heart but he hit my arm when I blocked it.
I pulled the knife out and threw it away, “you’re always full of surprises brother.”
“And you always get surprised. When will you ever learn that, little brother?” Keiran backed away and held his gut when I got to return his attack earlier and wounded him more.
He spit blood and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. Just then when we tried to attack each other again, we heard a loud explosion not too far from us. We both looked at the direction of the light that emerged to the sky.
/Your majesty? / I whispered and I couldn’t hear Seraphim’s thoughts anymore.
Keiran laughed, “she’s onto it. Soon we will have the armies of hell freed from Dracula’s prison. Your king will die before the sun touches the sky!”
“What did you do, brother?” my eyes were wide. I felt the shiver in my spine.
“Soon, Seraphim would show what he was really meant for!”
I teleported leaving Keiran. I didn’t think of him anymore. I appeared in front of the building and found Hobbs under the ruble.
“f**k!” I ran to him and felt a strong force causing buildings to break.
I pulled Hobbs out of the ruble and teleported him to the alley, “kid! Kid!”
He was breathing but he was unconscious, “what happened? f**k! Where is Saga?”
/Your majesty where are you? Saga? / I tried connecting to my mate and he wasn’t responding either.
A loud explosion threw me away towards the building. I felt my bones were going to break, and right after, a huge rock was headed my way. I stood up and split it in two using my sword, after which I kneel on the ground when I felt another strong force slammed on my body.
/What the f**k is going on? /
“SAGA!” I yelled.
Before I could find Saga, I found Seraphim’s thoughts. What shocked me was the thoughts going through his mind. It was nothing but darkness and…
“Death…”
I teleported immediately and what I saw shocked me to my core. Seraphim was in his full demon form; his wings were bigger than what I saw him with earlier. His eyes all black, white long hair and skin, serrated-edged fangs that could tear into anything. His armor was more profound and his crown looked more like razor-sharpened horns.
“Your majesty…” my eyes darted to Jinri inside a black orb next to him. His eyes were with tears looking at his lover. I realized that everything in the city was slowly dissolving into fine sands.
“Your majesty!” my voice couldn’t be heard anymore from the loud gust of whirlwinds surrounding us.
I looked everywhere and everything was quickly dissipating. I knew I needed to do something. I teleported closer to Seraphim and that’s when I caught his attention. He turned his eyes on me and held his hand.
I didn’t expect anything to happen when I flew straight into his huge hand. He almost broke my neck when he choked me.
“Your… Majesty!” I held my sword and cut his arms but it didn’t do anything and it immediately healed.
“Seth!” I heard Saga’s voice. I was relieved and afraid at the same time.
“No, Saga don’t!” but it was too late for me to warn him when Saga jumped on Seraphim’s back and bit his skin.
The vampire king howled in pain and his wings moved with its own life stabbing Saga at the back. I felt Saga’s pain and he whimpered. Seraphim grabbed Saga and threw him into a building.
“No!” I took my other sword out and twisted my body to free myself from Seraphim grasp. I cut into his arms almost taking out his entire limb.
But right before I could move away, he slammed the back of his hand on my chest throwing me farther away. I sat up and felt an undeniable pain in my chest. I vomited blood as if my heart would come out.
/Seth… / I gasped.
“Jinri?” I looked up.
/Take Saga and Hobbs with you. Take them far away, as far as possible. As far as you can get. /
“What? Why?” my breath was heaving. I clutch my chest and continue coughing out blood.
I tried to stand and felt as if my rib cage was broken from what Seraphim did.
/Seth… /
“Jinri, did he imprison you in that orb?” I started walking slowly and I could see the sky had darkened.
The wind was blowing harder. Thunder and lightning rumbles in the clouds. The earth was shaking.
“What did he do to you? What happened to Seraphim?”
/He is protecting me from what he is trying to do, Seth. /
I stopped walking, “what is he trying to do?”
/He will destroy the entire city and everything that lives on it. He reached his limit, Seth. I wasn’t paying attention. If I don’t help him, he will destroy everything on Earth. /
“Let me come and get you. As soon as you and the others are safe, I will take care of Seraphim myself.”
/No. I would not part you from the people you love and love you. I’m the only one that could stop him. /
“Jinri, I promised Seraphim I will keep you safe.”
/And you did and I would always be grateful. Now keep Ivory and Saga safe for me. I’m Seraphim’s only chance of getting back to who he is. Who he truly is? /
“Jinri, wait I’m coming there,”
/Please promise me, you will keep my best friend safe. No matter what’s the outcome of this, she may remember things or not, but keep her safe. /
“What do you mean? Wait!”
He wasn’t responding anymore. I teleported to the place where Jinri was and suddenly a bright light surged from the middle of the city.
“No! No!” I ran as fast as I could and the bright light blinded me. It made me stop. I covered my eyes and felt as if it would burn my eyes if I didn’t.
/Seth… Take care of Seraphim for me… He would need you… Once… I’m… Gone... /
“Jinri… don’t do this…” I knelt on the ground and covered my eyes with everything that I have.
I felt Jinri’s power washed over me, my tears fell when I felt sudden sadness. Seraphim’s heart was in pain and sorrow. I knew then what Jinri had to do; What he needed to do.
I groaned and felt my body healed from every single pain it was feeling. I felt myself let go and succumbed to unconsciousness.
