“I think we should get going,” Kalan said as he walked away from the bed to the door. Mystic stared at her sister lying on the bed on her back. The vampire was lying right there next to her. His one arm was wrapped around her, pulling her close as if she belonged to him. Mystic frowned, not liking how close they were.
They needed to find her mate as soon as possible, or she'd never forgive her, Mystic thought as he walked to the door.
“Wait a minute. You can’t leave them. Where are you going?” Cassia asked. “Anything could happen to them.”
“Oren will stay with them,” Kalan said. “We have to go and find her mate, so that when she wakes up he will be here.”
“What?” Cassia asked, shocked. He couldn’t believe what they were doing this. “My brother is lying there, putting himself in danger to save his bride and you’re bringing in another male in here,” Cassia rushed to the day, but Oren grabbed him, bringing him to a stop. “What are you doing?”
“Let them go,” he said. "She's only doing what's best for her sister."
"Let me go," Cassia pulled away from him. And walked back to the bed.
Mystic stared at him. They didn't have time for this. She walked out of the door, following Kalan. They made their way to the SUV parked outside. They got into the car, and then they were on their way. Mystic stared at the trees passing outside the window.
“You should be prepared that we might not find him,” he said. “ Your sister didn’t give us enough information about him for us to follow.”
Mystic knew that. But she was hoping that he was out there somewhere. And he was looking for her too. God, he hoped he would come for her, so that he could save her from the vampire.
“I know,” Mystic said. “But he is her mate. He must be looking for her too.”
“Let’s hope so.” Kalan reached out and took her hand. “Marcus and William will help us. They are the alpha kings. They must know the alphas of the packs in the area. Surely someone knows who he is.”
Mystic nodded. She nervously tightened her fingers around Kalan’s hand as her insides wobbled. Her sister’s happiness depended on them finding him. There was no way she was going to allow her to be with that vampire. No. Not after what he did to them.
They silently drove to Marcus’ pack. When they arrived, Marcus and William were getting out of a car in the driveway. They looked like they'd just come back from somewhere.
“Hey,” Marcus said as they walked towards them. “How is the baby?”
“He’s fine,” Mystic said. “He’s growing so fast.”
“Yeah, they do that,” William said, smiling broadly. He was probably thinking about his daughter. Sky had her baby a few months before her. “Did you come to visit Sky?”
“Uhhh…no. I…” Mystic said, but she couldn’t seem to say it. Kalan took her hand.
“We actually need your help,” Kalan said.
“I guess we should go inside,” Marcus said, walking into the house. They followed him to his office, Marcus sat in his chair behind the desk, and William stood beside him.
“Don’t look so wary. I’m not bringing trouble to your door. I just want you to find a werewolf for me,” Kalan said.
“If only it was that simple. I know when you come to me it is not that simple. Trouble will come our way soon. Anyway, shoot,” Marcus said. He picked up a pen and paper. “Who are you looking for?”
Kalan sighed. “His name is Larson. And he’s the alpha of the Silvermoon pack.”
“Is that all?” Marcus asked.
“Yes, that’s it. I don't have anything else. I know its not enough, but find him for me please,” Kalan said.
“Okay, I’ll ask around.”
“Thank you, I appreciate it,” Kalan said.
“Are you now going to tell me what’s going on now that we have that out of the way?” Marcus asked, looking at them with assessing eyes.

Mae forced herself to look away from the vampire. She closed her eyes, but she could still hear him. Her body trembled as the sound of his pleasure filled the room. She slapped her hands on her ears, and thought about Larson. She imagined him sitting right there next to her. His calming presence washed over her, and she felt calm and less afraid of the vampire.
Mae must have fallen asleep, because she suddenly felt something being dragged up her body. She looked up and saw the vampire leaning over her. And a blanket was draped over her. She jerked away from him.
“It gets cold at night,” he said, moving away from her. He returned to the chair, and sat down. Mae clutched the blanket close to her chest, and she watched him watch her. Time ticked by and they stared at each other for long time. She felt like he was assessing her, as if he could figure out why she was there. Mae swallowed hard as she thought about what she had to do. She wasn’t sure she could do it. She closed her eyes as guilt filled her. She promised Larson that he would help him get his revenge against the vampire. But she didn’t know that the vampire she had to face was the one who had haunted her dreams ever since she was young. He was the boogeyman of her dreams. Fear coursed through her as she stared at his red eyes. She’d seen those eyes so many times in her dreams she should be used to them. But she wasn’t.
“Don’t look at me like that,” he said with a sigh. He got to his feet and started to pace. He mumbled under his breath, saying things she couldn’t understand. He turned towards her, and he looked like he was struggling with something. He looked a little insane. Mae coward into the corner. How did she ever think that she could do this? She asked herself.
“What am I going to do?” he asked, staring at her again. She could feel his frustration coming off him in waves. “Mae?” he said.
Mae froze.
How the hell did he know her name?
