Months without working has left me feeling empty and alone, except for Ryan who has been coming over, trying to win me over, but I can’t let him.
He knows about some of my past, but that isn’t what I have been hiding from him. My secret is way worse, and falling for a human will only end in heartbreak.
Ryan is an amazing guy, and if I let him into my heart, I’d have to break both of ours in a few years because I don’t age like the humans do.
I can’t have children with a human.
I can’t explain why he can’t meet my parents.
I can’t be honest and tell him what I am, and that is something that I cannot live with.
“Are you ready?” Ryan asks as I get into the passenger seat of his BMW X5.
“For work? Yes,” I sigh.
