Chapter 5As usual, the street outside Selwyn Avenue School was crowded as hundreds of pupils headed home. This time, though, the yellow truck was waiting for Adona and Halia. Niana hugged the pair and kissed them both before the little girl gazed up expectantly. “Have you got anything for us, Matt?” she asked. “Adona,” her foster mother scolded. “You can't expect Matt to have something for you every time you see him.” “No,” Halia said but he also had a slight glow across his usually expressionless eyes. “Well, actually I have,” Matt said. “Look behind the seat.” Both children jumped up and almost banged heads as they scrambled up on the seat.
