As I opened my eyes, I felt a heaviness taking over them.
I struggled hard and finally managed to open them wide without stuttering any further.
My shielded my eyes with my hands, as I felt a bright ray of light blinding me.
I couldn't make up my existence or the place I was present at the moment.
"She's up.", Called a female voice making me turn my head towards the source as I removed my hand to see the face.
My entire body went pale and soulless as I saw Claire sitting right next to my bed inside my room.
I clearly remember dad telling that she died in a car accident.
Then what the f**k was she doing in my room? Smiling at my face.
"Aaahh.", I jerked up screaming out loud as I placed my duvet over my body.
She shrieked up at my scream.
"What happened?", She asked, her voice full of concern.
"You.... You're.... Ghost... Oh my God...am I dead already?", I asked holding my head in my hands.
I didn't remember anything -- the last thing happening before I went unconscious. I didn't even remember where I stood. I was wearing my PJs and a tank top.
"Amy... What? What are you saying? Are you okay? Do we need to call the doctor?", She asked confused at my behaviour.
"Doctor? Am I in heaven? Because they must have doctors in heaven only.", I said panting hard, trying to dissolve the fact that I was now dead and in heaven with Claire.
But how did I die?
"Amy? What are saying? You're here in your room. What has gotten into you?", She asked completely bewildered with my attitude.
"Claire.... This... You're dead right?", I asked her, walking close to her as I tried touching her. I could feel her body and I could touch her solid skin.
I tried touching myself, even walked to see myself in mirror and the two worked. I even tried pinching myself and it only hurt.
I hissed as my skin blistered at my hard pinch.
"What the f**k? I'm not dead. Who told you that!", She made an annoyed face.
I looked at her and realised that she was still the same, beautiful. She looked extremely gorgeous and radiating as she stood sleekly. I notice the ring in her finger.
"You and uncle?", I asked her taking a step towards her.
She waved off the ring to my finger, "Yes we did get married.", She said happily and a warm smole like spread across my face.
I couldn't be more happier for them.
But wait! Didn't dad tell me that she died?
Before I could ask her any question, a small girl came running into the room.
She looked at me and yelled, "She's up. Mom she's up!", She said out loud standing near me and examining me closely.
I looked at Claire wondering if she was their daughter.
Claire only bent down to play with the little girl who was soon joined in by another girl almost her age.
Followed in Sarah.
My heart dropped down into my stomach at the mere sight of my sister.
"Sarah.", I whispered as she came in closely towards me extended her arms for me and I instantly hugged her with tears flowing down in streams.
I hugged her tightly and held on to her as tears kept streaming down my face.
"I'm so so so sorry.", I whispered as I kept crying on her shoulder.
"It's okay. It's not your fault. We all were at fault somehow.", She slowly whispered breaking my embrace and whipping tears off my face with her thumbs.
"Why is she crying Mommy?", One of the little girls asked Sarah, making me look at her with astonishment.
Sarah smiled at me, "She's Elizabeth and that's...", She pointed at the younger one, "Charlotte. Girls she's your aunt Amy I told you about.", She told them, making my eyes fall out of their sockets.
"These... They're your....your daughters?", I asked in astonishment.
Before she could reply a tall figure walked into the room.
"Is everything alright? What's taking so long?", Jake entered inside the room and my face rather fell dull upon seeing him.
He immediately looked at me and smiled.
"How have you been doing?", He asked as I looked at him with plain expressions.
Something instantly hit me.
I looked down at my finger and a pang of memory hit my brain.
Everything rushed back in a flashback.
Dad lied to me about everything. He played me.
"Sarah?", I asked still looking down at my finger. "Is dad suffering from atherosclerosis?", I asked her looking keenly through the entire situation.
"What? No! God forbids. Who told you that?", She asked startled at my words.
Everything was lie.
But one thing I didn't get here.... Why get me engaged to Brandon?
And why would Brandon want to marry me?
Why did dad, created an entire list of lies just to get me here?
**************
I placed the ring down, with a thud on the table, fuming with anger.
Dad stood in his study, as he turned around to see my fuming face.
"What the f**k is this?", I asked fuming with anger.
"It's your engagement ring, wear it. It cost a fortune.", He said taking his seat casually and reading through some papers.
"You lied! You lied about everything. How could you do that?", I asked him with sadness filled in my voice.
"I didn't force you to believe me.", He stated still looking into the papers.
"You lied, so I would believe you. Everything was a lie. How could you be so relentless? Why did you do this?", I asked the question that was disturbing me the most.
He finally heaved a sigh showing that he was annoyed by my questions and placed down the files.
"Listen! It doesn't matter why and what I did. I have done it. Now! Wear this ring. You're engaged!", He said it more like a command that infuriated me even more.
"Engaged? Engaged to whom? Your Mayor? Who stood there hating me? And engaged on what basis? You guys played me! I don't get what makes you say that I'm engaged? This is a sick joke! You guys tricked me into this. You forced me.", I placed my chain of blames on dad.
"Force? No! Nobody forced you into anything. You don't have a single slightest proof of anyone forcing you. You came here back to Cherwood on your own. You went places, visiting your friends, school and everyone all happy. Not even once anybody was with you to force you. And above all you came in to the city hall, driving your own car. What part of it seems like forced?", He said standing there smirking making me realise how big of a game he played with me.
I felt stupid to even let him in back again. He played me bad. I trusted him like an i***t and and fooled me down once again.
"Now... Go ahead and wear this ring. Or else if you do remember well... I still have your assets in my name.", He said standing right opposite to me across the table challenging me.
"You tricked me.", I told him letting out a cold laugh, "I seriously am nothing compared to your conniving mind. You're such a liar. You played me so well that I happily agreed to you to fool me."
"And no!", I told him challenging him back, "I won't wear this stupid ring, nor do I agree to this betrayal of an engagement. And dare you touch my property or my business. I might not be as clever as you when it comes to playing games, but I know people and places to go when someone forges you into signing papers.", I challenged him back making my way outside his office.
He might have had his fair share in playing me but now it was my turn to strike back and I did. Because that made him shut up.
******************
We were sitting at the dinner table, with Elizabeth and Charlotte sitting right next to me. I was more of playing with them rather than eating food.
Jake went back to London and so did Claire went to New York and said that she'll bring Uncle Daniel with her in a span of a few days.
At first I thought that he might be angry at me but Claire assured me that he's just too busy with his work.
"Have you been to the Disneyland?", I asked them and the two nodded their head.
"But we haven't been to Japan.", Elizabeth said.
Both of the girls seemed more like twins to me.
"Then we'll go to Japan in summers. It's done.", I smiled their way.
Margaret was missing from the dinning table but I didn't bother enough as she was no better than dad.
My only concern was my sisters; as Carol sat typing into her phone not bothering about the situation around her.
Soon the door bell rang and after a short while, I heard footsteps following in.
I turned my face around hoping to see Uncle, but much to my dismay it wasn't him but my so called fiancé.
Of course I am being sarcastic.
He stood in the middle of the room, wearing a blue button down followed by pair of formal pants. He had his sleeved rolled up exhibiting even more handsomeness.
His eyes roam around and finally landed upon me and he stood giving me a poker face.
I turned my gaze around and pretended to avoid him.
He stood at a distance of few feet and my heart lunged at his presence near me.
Everybody got up to their seats and soon dad and Margaret joined in as they came downstairs. I still stayed put on my seat, not bothering to move or stand up.
Sarah decided to take Elizabeth and Charlotte with her out of the room, knowing the kind of the situation that was about to be created and so did Margaret, who took Carol with her.
Leaving me behind with Brandon and dad.
Brandon walked a few steps towards me and stood at a small distance.
I had my face turned towards him through my back so I tried hiding my face in the backrest of the chair.
"I heard there's a problem, with you wearing the ring?", He asked gawking me through a daunting tone.
His voice was authoritative and that gave me chills down my spine.
I decided to get up and finally face him.
Either he didn't know that I was tricked into this or he's just with dad in this entire game.
But I still had to come clean.
"Listen Brandon.... I didn't know about this whole engagement thing. I was tricked into this.", I said looking over at dad through Brandon's shoulder.
"I don't care.", He said out bluntly making my shot up with bewilderment.
He looked over at dad and extended his hand where dad placed down the ring. The f*****g ring!
The entire gesture made me realize that he was with dad.
Of course he must had got notified about my not-wearing-the-ring act through dad only.
I squinted my eyes with anger as I looked over at dad.
"Wear it!", Brandon extended the ring towards me.
One thing was sure, his behaviour and words significantly showed that he wasn't doing this out of love. In fact whenever he looked at me he depicted anger and annoyance in his tone and eyes.
I crossed my hands across my chest.
"No!", I said stubbornly.
He looked over at dad and then back at me.
"What's your problem?", He asked being annoyed of my actions.
"My problem? Didn't you just get it? I didn't want this. My father tricked me into this! Stop forcing me I won't agree to this joke of an engagement. Is it really that easy for you people to get engaged to anyone?", I bluntly argued.
"If it sounds good to you.... Even I didn't want this! Trust me if getting rid of you in any manner was an option I won't be standing here at any cost and wasting my time talking to an useless person like you!", He threw his insult at me. "I'm not a huge fan of seeing your face right in front of my eyes either. Besides do you really think that I would want to marry YOU?", He said through a cold laughter.
His humiliation was seeing no limits and his choice of words was hitting me pretty hard all along.
Of course it wasn't just my ego getting hurt but my heart, that never expected this from him.
I stood quiet for a moment not knowing how to answer to his humiliations.
"Now.... I don't have enough time to waste on you! Just wear this.", He extended the ring again.
"Why do you want it so badly if I'm such an useless person whose face you don't even want to see?", I asked him, standing with confidence in front of him.
"Like I said! Don't waste my time!" He said through gritted teeth.
"It's not like you don't have the option of leaving this place and not waste your time.", I simply stated and started walking towards the staircase.
"For the last time! Wear this ring!", He said as he grabbed my wrist harshly making me turn around.
His touch on my skin, still generated sparks inside my body.
As I looked up from his touch on my wrist, I felt his breath on my face which was only inches apart. His eyes were boring holes inside mine as they had a fire burning inside them.
My breath hitched hysterically as I gawked him idiotically.
He let go off my arm and stepped back, still eyeing me with anger. He extended the ring, asking me to take it.
I looked up at him and back at the ring.
"No!", I crossed my hands across my chest. I stood giving him off a c****d eyebrow more like a challenge.
I could sense his anger generating heat all the way towards me.
"You'll regret this.", He fisted the ring in his hand and spatted out those words onto my face.
I sprung on my heels not caring much about his words.
On my way up I turned around and saw him gawking me with daunting eyes.
His gaze held anger. He looked at me like he had already planned on my destruction and perhaps he had!
