Martin and Kent walked to the council building in thoughtful silence. The gravel that provided some form of formal road crunched beneath their heavy, purposeful steps. The only sound that alerted anyone of their presence. They thankfully didn’t have a long walk to take, even though the council building was at the very edge of the settlement and away from all the houses. Martin could almost see the questions twirling in Kent’s head. Questions about Tara. Questions he didn’t want to answer. He knew if he allowed himself to think about her for even a second, he would not be able to focus on the urgent, potentially serious matter that needed his full attention.
