Chapter Thirty-Three: Full and Empty

1540 Words

“When?” Sebastian asked, his voice shaking a little as he asked. “When are we going to get her back?” “Two days.” his mother replied simply. For some reason, those two words made the dam inside him break, and he burst into tears. He shook as he sobbed against his mother’s chest as she rubbed his back. He used to hate that he was so much smaller than her. It was bad enough that she always called him ‘my little one’ but actually being littler than her - height wise anyway - made it so much worse. Until times like this, anyway, when he really wanted to be held. Then, it felt kind of nice to be held in his mother’s arms like a child; like she’d done after his father passed. Like she’d done even when he was nigh-feral with rage and despair, and was trying to fight everyone - including her.
