Chapter 5: Best friend Ryker

1585 Words
Daniel's POV "What? Is that what she said?" We met in Ryker's office. I invited him to coffee, but he didn't want to go because he was leaving for home in a few hours, so he sent me to his office. "Is she still angry with me to this day? Maybe that's why Alice doesn't show up when I pick up Russel from school." Ryker chuckled. "You probably haven't moved on yet." I sip my coffee. Ryker and I sat facing each other in the lounge of his office. He had just finished his meeting when I walked into his office. "I've moved on, and you know that..." Ryker said. He smiled at me as he sipped his coffee. Even though I don't want to make assumptions, I know why he moved on. "By the way, Russell told me. She said you pissed her off and scared her last night? Is it true?" asked Ryker. "Unfortunately, her number was contacted while we were shooting at the syndicates. My phone was mistakenly pressed into my pocket. I don't know what happened and didn't do it intentionally. You know me, Ryks, when I'm in that situation, I don't do anything or involve anyone." I explained it to Ryker. I don't know why I have to explain. "She was upset and told me the next day while I drove her to school. She was annoyed with you even though you worry her." I was about to sip coffee when Ryker said that, which surprised me. What the heck, is what I heard true? Is it because she's worried about me that she's mad at me? "You're both funny. When you fight, it's like you're in a relationship." Ryker said. He sipped his coffee and looked at me very seriously. "Did Russell admit to you?" I frowned. "Admit what?" Ryker took a deep breath. "Nothing. Let's go to a bar later. I've been stressed for a few days and can't get rid of it." Ryker's comment made me laugh. If he's in the city and has no time for "release," what else am I when I spend almost a week in the mountains without anything? "Shall we go later?" I asked, my eyebrows raised. Ryker smirked. "I want something different. Do you know about a new bar?" "Nothing. You know I spend more time working in the field than hanging out." "In that case, one of my employees told me something before I did. They say they go to a bar where many pretty girls are. We will go there later." Ryker smiled and said. "You're great at doing surveys. Why didn't you become the police? We might even be able to work together." I asked with a laugh. "Haist, if I had been a police officer, four people at the Academy like you might have killed me. What you did, I couldn't have done." Ryker said with a laugh as if my time at the Academy had been a joke. I just shook my head and took a deep breath. The time went by quickly. I fell asleep on the sofa in Ryker's office while waiting for him. Ryker was already dressed and next to me when I realized I had just woken up. He went from wearing a formal black suit to a more casual outfit. I smiled. "Did you transform?" I stood up and stretched. "Instead of a police uniform, you'd look better in a black suit daily." "I'm not ready to wear something like that. Maybe you can wear me when I get married." I laughed and said. Ryker laughed. "Let's go. I'm pumped up..." I had my car, so Ryker and I just drove together. The bar he talked about was far from where he worked. It took us about 30 minutes if you don't count the time we spent in traffic, which was about 15 minutes. It's an upscale bar. Just look at the parking lot and see a few cars. Very serious, so I laughed as we got closer to the building. "Do you think we'll like where we're going?" I asked Ryker. "My worker told me that most people here are sad," Ryker said with a grin. The guard looked for our IDs right away. Why do we have to show ID? I frowned. "Why do I need this ID?" I asked the man on duty. "Just following safety rules, sir. The guard said, "Because there are minors who come in here, and the bar just wants to avoid trouble." "Okay. We both had to show our driver's licenses. When you go inside, you'll notice how nice it is. We were both surprised by how many people were in the bar, which made it loud. We immediately looked for a good place while Ryker moved to the music. I had a slight chuckle. I went with Ryker until we got to an empty table. The waiter was beside us when we sat down, which even Ryker found strange. "Man, what should we drink?" Ryker asked me. "Dude, I only have a beer," Ryker frowned, but he still asked for a beer. Ryker looked at me when the waiter left. "I thought we'd be drinking? Why just beer?" "You might call me out of the blue because it's hard to work when you smell like alcohol." Ryker still needs to speak. We look around and let the music move our heads. Later, Ryker's order of a bucket of beer showed up. The waiter put it and the pulutan on our table and then left. "You're good at looking into things, right?" Ryker asked me. "Jeez, what are you going to do?" I asked the question as I drank a beer. "Mom is seeing a man. Just kidding. Every 14th of the month, Mom sends flowers." When Ryker said that, I coughed. "s**t!" Because beer came out of my nose, I felt weird then. It hurts inside my nose, and I can't stop my eyes from tearing up. Ryker laughed about what had happened as if I had given him a lot of joy. "What went on?" Ryker asked after he stopped laughing. I cleaned my nose and mouth with the tissue. I took the handkerchief out of my pocket and wiped my face when I thought my face was getting a little dry. "It's good, and I'm glad you like it," I said. "Well, I can't blame you for how you felt because I felt the same way when I saw my mom take the flower from the delivery boy," Ryker said. "But I don't have to worry about anything because I won't let anyone send flowers to the house anymore." "W-what? Why did you do that?" I asked in surprise. "Well, why not? Someone is hitting on Mom. And sometimes Dad was right there with her when she took the flower. Dad said he didn't give the flower when I asked. It meant only one thing." "Maybe you just have the wrong ideas." "I might understand if the flowers were given to Russell, but, dude, it's my mom. The worst thing is that the flowers are named after Mom. "I'm keeping my promise," the note says," Ryker said. "What in the hell does that mean?" I drank beer again. "You should look into who that jerk is." "All right. I'll look after it." Ryker smiled. "I can count on you, bro." I took a few deep breaths and drank a beer. Ryker's phone rang all of a sudden. "Jeez, I forgot to pick up Russell," Ryker said when he picked up the phone. I kept listening to Ryker while I drank more beer. "What? Bar? What do you plan to do there, huh?" asked Ryker. "With whom are you?" Ryker gave me a quick look, and then my phone went off. My senior was calling, so I picked up the phone right away. "Yes, Sir, I'm at the bar right now..." Ryker was still on the phone with Russell when I looked at him. "You told me to chill out, so my friend and I came here..." "What Swan Bar? I'll come to get you..." Ryan said. I looked at Ryker. "Is that right? Okay, sir, I'm going now. Yes Sir. Bye." After talking to my boss, I put the phone down right away. "That girl gets on my nerves," Ryker complained, and then he put his phone in his pocket. "Is Russell at the Swan Bar?" I asked Ryker. "Yes, it's a friend of theirs' birthday," Ryker said, annoyed. "I need to go get her and bring her home." "I'll look after Russel," I said. "What?" I finished the beer I was drinking and then answered Ryker's question. "I'll look after her. Could you give me a call when I'm with her? I'm leaving. We're going on a raid now." "What? Wait..." "Let's continue this next..." I said it, quickly got up, and left the bar. As soon as I got in my car, I called Russell, but he didn't pick up. Russel answered my call the fourth time I tried. "Daniel, what is this again?" she asked, annoyed. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Why do you want to know where I am?" Russel asked. "You're annoying anytime!" The next thing I heard from the other line was a busy tone. I put my phone down on the seat and started the car immediately. I drove out of the bar's parking lot. "Haist, my wife, you are so stubborn!"
