He tossed the notes on the table and I grabbed them.
I'm sure by now you have heard what has happened and are looking for me, but you won't find me. I am leaving and I won't come back. They broke my heart and I can't stay here and watch them be together. It hurts too much to even think about that. I love him but I know they will end up together. Don't bother looking for me because you won't find me. Sheryl.
I put the note down and grabbed the other one and began to read it.
Mia, you won. You said he was yours and threw every fit and made every threat you could. You found away to make him yours. Take care of him and make him happy. Sheryl
I started at the notes as everyone around me was talking.
"I won't marry her. I know we didn't have s*x. I would never have done that to Sheryl," I said, causing everyone to stop talking.
"You will marry her," my mother said.
"Did you have s*x with him, Mia?" Her father asked.
"What do you think daddy?"
"What I think is that you found away to get into bed with him. You knew he was going to the bachelor party and thought it was the perfect opportunity to tear them apart. Honestly, I don't think they slept together," he said.
I looked at him and nodded. "Thank you."
"I'll call the cops. I'm under age and we were found in bed together."
"The fact that your trying to black mail him speaks volumes. Get your ass in the car. I'm sorry about this and I will help you find her."
"Thank you."
I watched them leave with a very silent Mia following her father.
"If she ends up pregnant you will marry her."
"Of course dad."
"Your lucky he knows his daughter and is trusting you. This could have ended with you in jail."
"I know."
I stood up, grabbed the notes and walked back to my room.
No one had seen or heard from Sheryl in a week, not even her grandparents. Her uncle talked to the local police about what they could do but all they could do was report her as a run away. I was worried and decided to hire a private detective.
It has been two weeks since she left and not a single word. My detective had no successful leads. All we knew was that she withdrew the money she had in her bank account and left the truck at the airport. She didn't buy a ticket and none of the cabs remembered her. No one knew anything.
Mia, however, tried to talk to me whenever I was at their house but I ignored her. She cost me the woman I loved and I would not make the same mistake I made before.
I spent the next three weeks working on the ranch and trying to find Sheryl. I no longer felt the joy and happiness I used to. The world was dull and I had nothing to look forward to. She took it all with her.
My parents tried to get me to go out with the guys but I refused. I hardly left the house. I missed her and I wish I knew she was okay.
It was officially six weeks since she left and as my family was in the middle of dinner, the phone rang.
"I'll get it," my father said as he wiped his mouth and stood up. I watched him leave the room and suddenly my stomach fell, my heart began to race and my breathing became labored.
"Drew, are you okay," I heard my mother say, but I stayed focused on the doorway.
"Drew," Marcus said as he shook me, causing me to look at him.
"What?"
"You okay? You look like your about to be sick," he said.
"I will be, but I feel like something is wrong."
Before anyone could say anything, my father walked into the door frame and said, " My office now, Drew."
I stood up and quickly followed him. Did they find her? Is she okay? My mind was racing a million miles and the office felt so far away.
My father opened the door and we both walked in. As we both took a seat, I said, "did they find her?"
"Sheryl is the least of your worries. Mia is pregnant."
"It's not mine."
"She is saying your the father."
"I did not sleep with her. I know it looks that way, but that baby is not mine."
"I'm sorry, son, but her mother is ready to call the police if you don't marry her. You were found naked with a minor in your bed. You will be dragging our name and there's into the ground."
I looked at my father and sighed. "I don't love her and I know that baby isn't mine."
"The fact you were found in bed with her, butt naked, and now she is pregnant six weeks to the date I would believe you, but the facts are staring us in the face. Drew, I know you love Sheryl but a baby is on the way. I don't want to see you in jail."
"I can't I'm sorry. I know I didn't sleep with her. I was too drunk, plus when I drink too much I can't get it up. Call the cops for all I care."
"Damnit Drew. Can't you for one moment think straight? A baby is on the way and will need a father. Your the father."
"I am not. DNA will prove it."
I stood up and walked towards the door.
"Drew, I won't bail you out of jail."
"Then don't. They have to prove I slept with her and the baby is mine. Plus, she would have to claim r**e. She might be seventeen, dad, but the age of consent is seventeen in Texas. So let them try their best."
