Mystic Falls: Beginnings

Mystic Falls Begining  Chapter one. -Thanks for choosing to read this story. There are two stories before this one but you do not need to read them to understand this one. Updates will be Fridays at 6pm est.-   Sheryl's Point of View It has been five years since my son Caleb married his wife Kiara and so much has happened. Tyler and his wife Ava now have three children, Caleb and Kiara have two little ones, Levi was just accepted into medical school and Dylan will be graduating high school this spring. I can't believe how quickly time has flown by but I couldn't be more thankful for my family.  Today was one of those rare days. A day where all my children were home and my husband was not tending to the farm. We enjoyed a nice family meal of stuffed chicken and once the grandbabies were asleep inside we all made our way to the back deck.  I looked at everyone around the table and smiled while grabbing my husband's hand. "Have we ever told you, kids, how we met?" I asked as I looked at my kids.  "No." Everyone said at once and Drew squeezed my hand causing me to look at him.  "You sure?" He asked me.  "It's time," I told him. We had agreed not to tell the boys until the time was right and I felt now was the time. I looked at my children and began to tell the story of how Drew and I met.  ----------------------------------------------------------------------I had just turned sixteen and was a sophomore in high school when it happened. I was sitting in Mrs. Tilly's math class when her phone rang and I was asked to come to the office. She told me to take my stuff and as I grabbed my belongings, my fellow classmates began to ooh and ahh, making it seem like I was in trouble, but I knew I had done nothing wrong.  As I walked through the hallways and down a flight of stairs I tried to think of why I was being sent to the office, but I couldn't think of a single thing. I was a straight-A student and I never got into any trouble.   As I approached the black-framed glass door to the office the principal stood there waiting for me and he held the door open for me.  "Ms. Cushmore please follow me," He said without making eye contact. I swallowed the lump in my throat and followed him into a room and my heart began to beat super fast. Two police officers and women sat at a long table and looked at me as I walked in.  What did I do wrong? Is everything okay? My mind was racing.  "Have a seat," Mr. Johnson said as he sat down. I sat next to him and looked at those in the room.  "Sheryl my name is Bridgette and I am a social worker for DHS." The women said.  "Did I do something wrong," I asked in a small voice. My heart was racing and I swore you could hear the thumping through my chest.  "No honey you did not. I hate having to do this but today your parents were driving and they were in a car accident."  "Are they okay?" I asked with panic coursing through my body.  "Ms. Cushmore your parents were pronounced dead on the scene." The one officer said. I felt the tears forming in my eyes and I knew everyone was talking but I couldn't hear a word they said. My heart was breaking and for the first time, I felt lost and alone.  The Social worker genitally took my arm and led me to her black car and drove me to a house. As we pulled up a woman stepped out of the front door and walked up to the car.  "Hello Bridgette," The woman said.  "Cassy thank you for taking her in so quickly."  "No problem."  "As I said on the phone it will be for a night or two. Her aunt and uncle are on the way. Once they arrive we will release her into their care."  "No problem. Does she have any clothes?"  "No."  "No problem. I will give her some of Trisha's clothes to wear till then."  I listened as they talked and I couldn't help the tears flowing down my face and that night I slept in a stranger's house.  It took two days for social services to release me into my aunt and uncle's care and when they came to get me I ran into my aunt's arms and cried even more. She tried her best to comfort me but she was sad as well. Her brother my father had just died.  We drove to my house and I ran inside hoping everyone was lying to me but they weren't. The house was exactly how I left it days prior and I ran into their room and straight to their bed. I hid under the covers and cried myself to sleep. I was so broken.  We stayed in my home for two weeks and during that time my aunt was packing everything up. We had the funeral and it was a closed casket which hurt even more. I couldn't properly say goodbye. My grandparents, family friends, and other relatives arrived for the funeral but their words and hugs didn't heal the hole in my heart.  With the house up for sale and everything I wanted in a U-Haul truck, I said goodbye to the only home I ever knew and began making my way to my new home.  It took us several days to get to Browns Town Texas to my aunt and uncle's ranch. They raised several different types of cattle, while my grandparents owned a Ranch in Mystic Falls.  As we pulled up to their ranch I couldn't help but sigh because my life was about to change. My cousins Mia, Broody, and Blake were standing outside waiting for us, and once we were parked the guys began to unload the truck.  Mia gave me a hug and showed me to the room we will be sharing and even though she was all smiles I couldn't bring myself to smile. I sat on the bed that was mine and just looked out the window.
