Chapter one:Back in the arms of the man that broke my heart
Chapter One
Solana POV
(After her mothers burial)
Tucked in the corner of the room with the man i had vowed never to speak to again was the height of losing myself. Even in the dark, with his tall frame hovering over me, i could feel ir. His eyes, the orbs of brown and black, staring down at me, and with my head pressed against his chest it was easy to hear his heartbeat and take note of how they skip a beat every ttwo seconds, it couldn’t be because we were pressed against each other. No, this man with me had no feelings whatsoever to get him like this, it had to be the fact that we had just barely escaped being seen, not only that but we were in a sensitive environment that was certain to lead us to our death if ever found.
“What do you mean by its corrupted? Adam was in charge of making sure that it was delivered in one piece.” The masculine voice whispered with hard lines of anger and frustration.
“Ask me again, Adam did as instructed. He was to get the watch and bring it to the next association meeting, which he did.” This time, it was a feminine voice, a voice i was very much familiar with and could recognize even if i was in a deep sleep. Veronica, my auntie.
“I’m still yet to understand why you asked Adam to do it, you’re closer to the girl, she’s your family and yet you send an outsider to get your work done for you.” The man hissed and from the scrapping of the chair, it was obvious that he had pulled out one of the chairs to sit on.
“Its complicated but it doesnt matter, we need to get that watch, our next plan depends solemnly on it-”
Plan? What next plan? What did she mean by that? What was she talking about and what watch was she speaking of?
Their was a pause followed by the opening of a door, someone had entered the room.
“What is it Brian?” My aunt, Veronica asked.
“We need you downstairs, its almost time for the speech.”
“Where is Solana?” My auntie asked and i stiffened against the man who was keeping me from falling, his hands around my waist tightened.
“I saw her leave for the gardens, she doesnt look like she wants to be disturbed.” Brian said, and i swallowed in relief.
“Fine, i’ll be on my way soon.” Veronica said and hurried footsteps followed, when i tried to pull away from him, he only held me closer and whispered in my ears-
“Don’t move.” he instructed but i was ready to argue. The shifting in the room kept me still, someone was still there.
“Veronica, i know that you’re trying so hard to protect your niece but the time for all that has passed, you don’t have to pretend that you care about the girl. She is going to be caught up in our world whether you like it or not. Its impossible to get-”
“I understand, i have to go now.” Aunt Vernoica said and she walked away leaving just one person in the room. The man who had been speaking to her all this while.
“That woman- arghh-” he paused and sighed. “She’s not making things any easy and she’ll throw a ruckus if i try anythng. This is slowing down a lot of things and its getting on my nerves. It doesnt matter anyway, she doesnt have to know- what am i saying-” he muttered one last time before his steps faded out.
I didnt realize how much of my breath i was holding until Marcel strong hands rested on the small of my back giving me a gentle pat. Still in the dark, i could feel his eyes on me as i stared at the nothingness in front of me.
“They’re gone.” he muttered and slowly pulled away from me, i blinked once adn then twice, trying to adjust my sighting. The corner we had been had the curtains shielding us from everything else.
“Are you okay?” He asked as we both walked out into the light and i raised my gaze to meet his, his hazel eyes glowed under the yellow lights, just like it had always been. Eyes that had enchanted me from the beginning but right now, i wanted nothing more to do with the owner, since he lied to me, he betrayed me.
“I dont see how its any of your business.” I snapped but it didnt faze him neither did he turn away from me.
The black shirt dress he wore was neatly tucked into the black slacks, the sleeves had been rolled up his arms giving way for the small lining of dark ink which disappeared into his shirt.
Stop staring, Solana, its not the right time to. I cleared my throat and allowed my gaze shift over the entire space. The conversation from earlier flooded back and confused etched around me but something else was off, Marcel didn’t seem surprised by what we had heard. Maye he was good at hiding it, just like he does with everything but something told me that he wasno surprised because he was familiar with it.
“What were they talking about?” I asked him, trying my luck if he would turthfully answer.
“Why ask me? I thought you didnt want to speak to me.” He replied calmly with a slight smirk on his lips. I closed my eyes and sucked on my lips as i tried to keep my temper under control. As i opened my eyes, Marcel was directly in front of me and my heart leaped to my throat.
“What the hell are you doing?” I sneered trying to take a step backwards but he followed me.
“You really don’t know?” He asked making me stare at him in confusion. Know what?
“Know what? You’re not making any sense.” I replied calmly.
“Your family is more than you know Solana, and know that you’re the last person alive, you need to be careful.”
