The Squad Visit

1774 Words
It's been a week since I heard the news about Enzey. And since then, Luke wasn't around. Mrs. Almonte that he never left Enzey's side since the day of the accident but I feel like I talk away from his righteous place. I feel bad that an imposter like me took away the place he should be at. But here's what we can do about it in the meantime. We both agree that it's not yet the right time to tell Enzey everything. We are not lying to her, we are just delaying things until we thought she's ready to deal with them. She's three months in a coma so putting things back in their righteous place might hinder her fast recovery. I am on my way to pick up the squad to pay a visit to Enzey in the hospital. She insists on seeing them because she feels so bored being at the hospital. I honked at them while they were circling and chitchatting at the agreed location where I should pick them all. They were all excited as if we are going on two days night trips like we used to. There's David, Victoria, Marc, and Charlotte. The squad is almost complete but Mara is missing. I don't know how should I reach out to her after rejecting her for Enzey. Everyone was sitting in the backseat by pair and no one sits right beside me. I feel like a paid taxi cab right now. I looked at them through the rear mirror as I furrow my brows and they were all laughing as if teasing me. "That place is reserved for Enzey. No one dares to steal it away from her." David giggled and I just smirked at his remarks. He's right. This is how it should be when we go out to travel out of town or vacation somewhere. That's how it is supposed to be if we didn't break up if I didn't give her up back then. "What's with the long face? You said we should act like nothing jas changed to the squad. Then we have to do a simulation on how our squad should have if that seven-year has been reset." Marc commented. Yeah, guys. But you can't blame me if I would feel guilty once and in a while because I'm the one who is deceiving her. It's hard to act that everything's fine but it's not despite how hard I try to get back what I lost from seven years ago. I don't if this current situation we have right now is a blessing in disguise or torture to pay back for what I did. Pessimistic thoughts keep rushing into my mind while I was driving. "We are actually talking about it after you called us. Of course, I feel bad that Enzey was in an accident but it still fascinates us that her memory stops right on the peak of your relationship." David added while Victoria beside him keeps nodding. "You're right. Of all the memories she had in the deepest part of her mind, why does it have to be the time where you and she were still together?" Victoria wondered. "There must be a trigger to that. Something that might happen the day before the accident triggers that certain period in her memory and freezes into that time before she lost the rest of the memories." Charlotte asserted like a Psychology expert. And just like a ringing bell, that statement made me come up with a realization. What she said makes sense. That night, our passionate kiss that leads to interrupted making out might have been disturbing her mind throughout until she was caught in that accident. That makes sense! I rubbed my face with the palm of my hand as I stopped at the red light. Why didn't I think about that?!? "Hey, are you okay?" Marc asked worriedly. "That day... before the accident, she pay me a visit on my pad," I mumbled. "Wait, what?? But I thought she dec---" David couldn't finish what he was about to say when Victoria hit him with her elbow. "What???" I followed up but he just shook his head vigorously. "So something happened during the visit??" Charlotte queried inquisitively and all I could do was to nod in response while focusing my attention on driving as the red light turns to green. "Oh...my...gally! Did you kiss???" Victoria exclaimed in disbelief and all I could do is to nod soullessly. "So are you guys back together??" Charlotte asked and everyone was looking forward to my response. I just sighed and they were all pissed that I kept being silent. "What?!" Marc insisted to spill the tea and so, I shook my head in response. "She runs away in the middle of our business." They all exhaled in unison as they were also disappointed upon hearing that. And that sad news made us all silent and the atmosphere in the car is filled with the down-spirited vibe. "Guys, come on. Once we get there, please act naturally. I don't want us to be caught by Enzey. Act like there's nothing wrong with us. Her parents think it's the best for now, just until she gets discharged." I convinced them but they somehow feel bad about what they hear. "Are you really sure about this, dude?" David asked with a concerned look all over his face. He knows that doing this will be very difficult for me but this is the least I can do for Enzey right now. And when the right time comes, I'm the one who will tell her everything. I wouldn't care if she will loathe me more than ever but this is what we think is the best for her right now until she fully recovers. "Do you think it's a second chance for the two of you... or one last re-run before you could fully let go of each other?" Charlotte remarked and I couldn't respond immediately. Of course, I would prefer it if it's not the latter choice. I keep wishing that this might be the second chance that I've been begging for but in the back of my mind, I can't help to felt guilt for the nice guy who makes Enzey's heart happy when I failed to do so. I badly want this and take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but no matter which side I look at it, there will always be someone who will get hurt badly and either way, Enzey would feel betrayed. "Only time can tell what's the answer to that question. But whichever could be the answer, I would prefer what would give Enzey the ultimate happiness she deserves in life." I respond. ============ The happiness that Enzey is feeling right now is so priceless. She must have been wanting to see Charlotte, Victoria, and the boys, all gathered in her hospital room. She was so excited and keep talking about stuff about ATLE. Good thing, no matter how awkward these guys react, Enzey didn't catch it at all. Maybe she was too excited to see them again to notice unnecessary things. "Oh, you have a ring. Did David propose to you already?" She asked excitedly and the two looked at me awkwardly as if asking me what to say so I lean onto Enzey's and squinch my eyes as if warning them don't you dare. "Oh...this. Ah...yeah. He... he proposed to me last month when we were celebrating our months." Victoria giggled awkwardly and Enzey starts getting suspicious. "Are you okay? Why are you stammering with that question?" She starts questioning thanks to their lame acting. "N-no...not at all." David tried to deny and fortunately, Enzey shrugged it off. "You sure? I thought you get married and didn't invite me." She joked. We are in the middle of chitchatting when someone knocked on the door. Everyone looked who was it but Charlotte and Victoria were kinda shocked to see him here. They looked at her and Enzey traced where they are looking. "Bus-boy." Victoria blurted unconsciously and Enzey looked at her with so much confusion on her face. "You know him?" She asked as she whispers at the two ladies. They just look at each other, don't know how would they respond to her question. But Enzey looked at them intently, demanding the girls to explain what was going on. How would they know someone she doesn't?? "You guys... you were... officemates. When you transferred to your new work." Victoria closes her eyes as she nervously answers her question. Everyone became silent at that sudden confession from Victoria. They agreed to keep everything secret but the slip of the tongue is inevitable in this situation. "Did I transfer to another company? I... I didn't remember leaving ATLE." She looked at me, demanding to clear this confusion. "I... I didn't know you have visitors today. I'll... just go back tomorrow." He took the spotlight to interrupt the interrogation as he excuses himself but Charlotte stops him from leaving just like that. "Wait..." Everyone was nervously holding tight in their sit as Enzey stops her from leaving. D*mn. Are we gonna be busted??? "Is that for me? It looks like my mom's." She pointed at the packed lunch in Luke's hand. And he raised what was on his hand as if he was reminded why he is here. "Y-yeah...I almost forgot. Mrs. Almonte asked me a favor to bring this to you because she will be late for dinner." He explained as he puts the lunch box on the table beside Enzey's bed. "Thank you." She blurted coldly. Despite losing her memories, her behavior and attitude are still intact. Enzey is the type of person who treats you in the warmest possible way she can when she likes you and when she wants you to be around her but she can be the coldest person when it comes to strangers. But knowing her, once she gains back her memories, she will regret big time treating him coldly. She would probably cry thousands of tears beating herself up regretting that of all people, why does it have to be Luke who she has to be forgotten? The young guy left with a pitiful stare in his eyes. He must have wanted to stay and be with Enzey a little longer but she keeps ignoring him. He just leaves the room silently and with a heavy heart. I excused myself from the squad and followed him outside. "Luke..." I called his attention. He stopped but he didn't look back. "Dude... we need to talk."
