Full of anger that quickly turned to rage, I veered around and walked back to my bike as quickly as possible. I hear Kollin walking behind me. "Scar, please stop. I'm sorry," he lets out. I look down at the ground while walking, occasionally looking up to see if Myles and Aiden are anywhere in sight. I could not believe this guy, who did he think he was? I need to leave and go home. I finally returned to my bike, put on my helmet, and turned my music as loud as possible so I wouldn't have to hear anything else from Kollin.
I zoom out of the parking lot, passing hundreds of people. I jump on the highway and push my bike to speeds I have never reached. I am furious about how Kollin was speaking to me, but it hurt me at the same time. No one can talk to me that way. I have raised myself and did a damn good job with what little I had. My parents abandoned me, rotating between foster care and girl homes; I had nothing. I will not let someone run over me after the s**t I have been through. Why? Why would he say something like that to me when we just met? I see motorcycle headlights coming up behind me, and I slow down to see if it is Myles or Aiden. The bike gets beside me; it's Kollin.
I pulled the throttle towards me to go faster. Kollin stays close behind me and follows me back to my apartment. My mind is racing as I pull into my parking spot. What should I do? I started to get scared of what he might do or want. I get off my bike and yank my helmet off. "What do you want?" I yell at him. He looked at me concerned, "I'm sorry, Scarlet, I didn't mean to make you mad. I was worried about how fast you were driving on the highway when we went to the bike meet," he pleaded. "That is not your concern! It's my bike, it's my driving, and it's my life. I will do what I want.", I continued yelling.
"Why did you come here? I don't need you to watch over me. We kissed one time, that's it!" I exclaimed. Kollin looked puzzled, "I… I am supposed to protect you", he said quietly but loud enough for me to hear him. I'm so confused. "Protect me?" "From what?" "You're insane!" I yelled back to back. "Can we please just go inside and talk? I swear I'll leave if you just listen to me for five minutes. I beg you, Scar!" He quite literally begged.
I just glared at him and walked to my front door. Leaving the door open for him to come in, I sit on the couch. He entered the living room and sat on the couch's other end. "Scar, everything I am about to tell you has to stay in this room. I am not trying to be rude in any way. It's for your protection and mine," he said seriously. "Please explain because nothing you're saying makes sense," I exclaimed. "I'm sorry, this isn't the way I planned this to go. I was sent here by your dad," he said calmly. "No, you have the wrong person… my parents gave me up as a baby. They don't know who I am. I don't know who they are." I said convincingly. Kollin took a deep breath and stared into my eyes. "I know, but you are in danger. Your father's brother found out about you and has people out looking for you. I know this is all a lot to process. I am here for you. We can take as much time as you need," he said softly.
I don't know what to do or say. I sit on the couch, hugging my legs, trying to understand what is happening. "Why are they looking for me?" I said in a shaky voice. "That might be enough for tonight, Scar. We can talk about the rest tomorrow. I don't want to scare you and make you hate me," Kollin concerned. "No, I want to know… why?" I said aggressively. Kollin gently slides closer to me. I look into his green eyes, waiting for an explanation. "We are a pack… of wolves… and your father is the Alpha. He has no other children, and it is time for a new alpha to take over the pack. Does that make sense?" He explained. I started laughing from the shock my mind was in. Concerned, Kollin asked, "Are you okay? Please, let's stop here. It is late; this is a lot to take on, and you need rest". I sat unresponsive on the couch.
Kollin grabbed my hand and pulled gently as he was standing up. I stood up with him, and he guided me to my bed. "Please just lie down. I will go, but I need you to rest," he said firmly. "How do I know this is all real?" I asked. "Scar, I didn't even want to tell you what I did. I will tell you the rest in the morning", Kollin said reluctantly. What the f**k, is the only phrase continuously going around in my head. I don't feel like I need rest. I need to… I don't know. Kollin standing here is the only thing that feels real. "Can you stay? I don't want to be alone," I say quickly. Kollin smiles at me and nods his head. I slip my shoes off and lie down in the middle of the bed. Kollin does the same and lays next to me. Despite all of the bad information, something is comforting about Kollin. I moved closer to him, and he raised his arm so I could put my head on his chest. After a few minutes, I fell asleep.
A few hours later, I jump awake. "It's okay, Scar. I'm right here with you", Kollin Said softly. I thought it was all a dream for a second, but I sat up in bed as I remembered what he had told me. "Tell me the rest," I say in a groggy voice. With a concerned look, Kollin says, "Are you sure?". I turned to face him and nodded. My head was still spinning from the previous information. Kollin sighs, "Like I told you last night, Your father sent me here to find you. You are his only child. We are a pack of wolves; your father is our Alpha, our leader. Alphas are only alphas from when they turn 18 to when their firstborn turns 18. If the firstborn is a male, he will become Alpha at 18. If an Alpha only has a Daughter, then whoever she marries will become Alpha, and she will be the Luna. Does that make sense?" he asked. I was trying to understand.
Still, everything he says, doesn't sound real. "Yeah, I guess," I replied. Kollin nodded and continued, "In this case your 22, your father's time is up, and if an alpha doesn't have a child to pass the title to then a brother or sister of the Alpha can take it. Your uncle is not fit to take on Alpha. We need you to essentially take over the pack." My heart pounded. "So I have to marry someone I don't know? I'm not a wolf!" I exclaimed. "A Luna's wolf is activated when she finds her mate. Every wolf has one true mate. You normally find your mate when you turn 18. But you are not living in the pack lands, which doesn't make it easy for you to find your mate." He tried to explain. "So who is my mate? Are they in the pack lands?" I asked. Those words coming out of my mouth felt weird to say. Still, as Kollin went on, it started to make more sense. Kollin came a little closer and held my hand. Kollin smiled and said, "When I turned 18, I thought I would find my mate. All my friends started finding mates, married and started having children. I searched for four years, but I couldn't find her. I was the only one that didn't find my mate in those 4 years, so I went to see the Alpha, and that's when he told me about you. That you were the only wolf that left the pack lands". I pulled my hand away from him. "I am your mate!?" I yelled. "Yes, I wasn't sure, to begin with. It was a coincidence when I met you at the gas station with Myles and Aiden. I didn't feel the pull to you. But once I found out your name, I became friends with Myles and Aiden to get closer to you. When I saw you at your work, I felt it. That is why I was waiting here when you got home; I wanted to see if you felt it, too." Kollin said positivly. I did feel something; if Myles and Aiden hadn't shown up, then I probably would have slept with him. I did find him attractive, more than I ever felt for Myles, and I have known him for years.
"I did feel it; I just didn't know why,"'I paused. "So we have to get married?" I asked, reserved. Kollin grabbed my hand again and placed it on his chest. Then, he placed his hand on my knee. "Little Luna, I will never force you to do anything. If there ever a time that you don't want this or this life, then you can be free and I won’t look for you again. I only ask that you give it a chance." he said confidently. I was hanging on to every word he said. I could feel his heartbeat below my hand, and the warmness of his chest felt tingly. I wanted him, but that meant taking on so much more than I wanted to think about. I looked into his eyes as I pulled him towards me. I kissed him softly, wanting him to kiss me back.
He pulls his face back to look at me, and says, "I want you, Scarlet, but we are true mates, and if we do anything, then it will activate your wolf. We should wait until...". I smashed my lips into his. I couldn't resist the natural pull towards him. I moved my lips to his ear. "I want you," I whispered. He grabbed my waist and pulled me on top of his lap. His hands roamed my body, and goosebumps chilled all over. He rocked me back and forth; I could feel a bulge underneath me. A warm sensation gathered in my lower belly.
