Chapter :- 28.

Twirling inside the ocean, Erlik couldn't think of how to get up from the depth. The salty water was choking him and the sand of the ocean floor was making it hard to see anything or search for his savior. Soon he started losing his breath and he felt his strength draining out of his body quickly. He thought that this is the last time he can feel the pleasures of being alive in this world. Just as he lost his hope, a hand grabbed him by his wrist and dragged him up. From the familiar touch, he knew that it was none other than Zene, the girl who brought him to this ocean on the first place.

Soon they were both out of the water, and they can feel the air getting inside their lungs as they started coughing heavily. Zene managed to take him on the ocean level, where they can touch the floor easily. After both of them got their breathing in control, Zene jumped on Erlik and hugged him tight. It startled him a little, because he never expected such move from Zene. But it made him forget the incident that just happened a minute ago and become happy.

“I’m so sorry. It was all my fault. I shouldn't have tried to drag you into the ocean to teach swimming. I shouldn't have let go of your hand. I almost lost you.” Zene said as she felt Erlik's heartbeat on her chest.

“It's okay. It’s not your fault. You were just trying to help me improve myself. Thank you for saving my life again.” Erlik also hugged her more into his chest.

“I was so scared that I couldn't think of what to do. My soul just left my body when I couldn't find you anywhere. I can't afford to lose you like this. I'm never letting you come into the ocean again.” Zene said as she broke the hug and caressed his cheeks with her soft palms.

“Why are you so afraid for me? I’m a no one. I’m a Devil, taking shelter in you land for few days. I’m supposed to be your enemy. Then why is it affecting you so much to think about loosing me?” Erlik took the chance of Zene's emotional state and thought to make her accept her feelings for him.

“Because I...”

It instantly reminded Zene that she’s about to tell him her true feelings. Although she's way too emotional at that moment, but still she couldn't forget the restrictions they have among their kinds. No matter how much she loves him, she can’t admit it to him. It might only cause problems for both of them. Most of all she can't forget the fact that he’s a Devil and if her parents finds out their relationship, they are going to kill him. So she decided to control herself for that moment.

“Because no matter who you are, you are my responsibility at this moment. I was the one who promised you that nothing will happen to you. But I broke that promise. I was about to kill you in my stupidity.”

Zene changed her words into something that Erlik wasn't expecting. He thought that she would definitely reveal her try feelings for him. But he didn't know that she's way too strong to lose control so easily. Erlik has to search for some other chances if he wants to make Zene accept him. It's not going to happen at this moment.

“That's it? That’s the only reason you were afraid? Are you telling the truth?” Erlik tried once more to get something out of her, but to get failed.

“Of course. Don't you agree that you were my responsibility when I brought you into the ocean?” Zene tried to change the topic.

“Yes, but…” Erlik was about to interrogate more but got stopped by Zene.

“Oh my… Look at the sun. We’re too late to go home. Everyone must be worried about us by now. Let's hurry.” Zene said as she started walking out of the water, without waiting for Erlik to follow.

Erlik took a long breath and accept that he has lost on his trick for now. But he promised himself that he would make her agree to the relationship they both wants.

The rest of the day passed by without any more problems. Erlik and Zene talked and spend some more time together, but they never picked up the topic from the mornings discussion. Zene was really enjoying their times together and her feelings for him kept increasing, although she tried to keep it under control. But in some part of her heart, she didn't want to deny it anymore. She felt like it’s time that she forgets the world and accept their forbidden love. She needed someone to love her unconditionally like her father does to her mother. But she’s bound by the rules, and she's afraid for her loves life, to do that. Or maybe she’s overthinking it. Maybe nothing like that will happen it she takes the risk. Love can break any rules, and it can melt anyone's heart. Maybe it can melt her parents hearts too.

Zene kept thinking about it the whole day. But she couldn't decide what to do or what not to do. Even sitting in the dinning table for their dinner, she was quite and kept thinking about all of it.

“Zene, is everything okay? Why are you so quite all of a sudden? You haven't even eaten anything yet.”

Zene got interrupted by her mother. Looking around she found that everyone almost finished their food while she didn't even touch hers. She was so deep in her thoughts that she forgot, where she was or what she was doing.

“It’s nothing mother. I'm fine.” Zene said with her sweet smile.

“Kept smiling. It suits you more. Look at your sisters. Specially Sylvia. Look how happy she is all the time.” Her mother said pointing her towards Sylvia.

“Thank you mother. This is first time I'm on the getting compliment side, while getting compared with someone. And it's all because of Erlik. Thank you so much for giving me the reason to smile. You're the best.” Sylvia said while hugging Erlik's arm from the side she was sitting. They were sitting together like they always do since Erlik arrived on this island.

“You two look really perfect together sis. I think we are about to get more surprises soon.”

Sequanna's words made Sylvia blush as she tried to hide her face behind Erlik. Everyone chuckled to see her reaction after hearing it. Even King Triton and Queen Angelia secretly smiled to think about their firstborn daughters future. But there was two people who were having a heart break from hearing their slow laughs. One is Erlik, who never thought things will come out like this all of a sudden, in front of the whole royal family. And the second was Zene, who almost forgot the truth that her elder sister also like the same man as she does.

“Excuse me please. I’m not feeling well. I’m going to my room for the night.” Zene quickly got up to leave but got stopped by her mother.

“Wait. What happened? Are you okay? Should you need someone to company you for the night?” Queen Angelia asked, getting worried about her daughter's health.

“No. It's okay. I can manage it. Maybe i’m tired and just need a good night's sleep. If I need anything, I will surely call someone. Thank you.” Saying this, Zene went back to her room.

Erlik exactly knew what happened to her suddenly. He knew that Zene's hurt after realizing that her sister also likes him. Erlik asked Sylvia not to tell anyone about them right now, but don't know why she did that all of a sudden, in front of everyone. He was not only worried about the rulers to find out about it, but he was afraid of Zene. He knows that she would never get between the love life of her sisters. But he got to know one thing, that King Triton and Queen Angelia has no problems with his relationship with their elder daughter. So it is going to be easy for Erlik to succeed in her mission. The only thing now he has to worry about is how to make Zene believe that he only loves her and nobody else.

On the other hand, locking herself in her room, Zene started blaming her for such stupidity. She kept thinking that, how could she forget that her sister always liked Erlik? She knew since the day he first arrived on this island, that Sylvia likes him. She always keeps him close, and she always tried to indicate everyone about her feelings for Erlik. How can she do this to her sister? How can she have feelings for the person who belongs to someone else? This is just her stupidity that she got distracted from the reality and went into the imaginary world that can never be true. It would be good for everyone if she controls herself while it’s still time.

Zene's heart kept aching by the thought of Erlik being with someone else then her. She had created some hopes and dreams inside her mind about her relationship with Erlik. She was almost about to express her feelings to her just that same morning. But everything was crushed out of nowhere. She came back to the same place where she was just yesterday, empty and alone.

No matter how much she tried, she couldn't keep her mind at peace. She was having a hard time to accept everything. To calm her nerves, she thought to go to her special place she always went in situation like this. It’s been a few days she stopped sneaking out like she did for past two years because she didn't want to get caught before her sister's coronation. She was scared from getting caught the last time, by Erlik. But now she's way too anxious to leave the palace grounds.

Sneaking out of her window and climbing down the vines, she ran straight towards her place. It's the only place she can make her mind feel calm. But she didn't know that someone else was in the same situation as hers. Erlik was also worried to think about the results of Sylvia's sudden action. He couldn't make himself stay calm and wanted to talk to Zene as soon as possible. But he couldn't do that till the next morning, so he wants beside his window to calm his nervousness. While standing in there, he noticed that Zene was running out of the palace grounds, and he knows exactly where she’s going. Erlik thought that this is his chance to talk to her alone.

Without wasting any time, Erlik went to follow Zene and ended up on the place where he saw her first time in her unique form. Although he followed her to talk to her, but couldn't make the courage to call her out. Standing still in his place, he saw Zene jumping in the water and coming up in her white Mermaid form. Swimming to the precise seat she always sits, she got up to sit on the rock. But instead of letting her fin play with the water, she transformed into her human form and curled herself in the sitting position. Erlik couldn't make himself approach her, or call her out. After standing in his place for a while, he also sat down on the ground and kept staring at Zene.

Zene was way too emotional to do anything. That's why she shifted into her human form and put her head in her knees, while looking up at the moon. The cold breeze of the night kept blowing her wet hair to dry and the sound of water cooed her to forget her worries. It seemed like the night is her mother, who tries her best to change its daughter's mood from sad to calm. After sitting there for a while, Zene felt much better as her nerves were calmed. But the only problem was the ache in her heart that refused to leave her. She knew that she has only one was to take that pain out of her. So without waiting further, she started singing her hearts pain out.
