Chapter :- 3.

With cheerful steps, Zene went to her parents. Along the way she kept imagining how things will be when she announces her powers in front of her whole family. She kept imagining how her parents would react when they see that she got the ability that they were waiting for so long. A smile was plastered on her lips from thinking all the happy images.

With a chirpy heart, she finally reached her home. Without wasting any time, she straight went to her parents' room. She was about to knock on the door to get the permission of her parents to enter when she found out that it was already open. Through the small gap of their door, she saw her big sister Sylvia standing in front of their parents.

“Mother, father, I promise I will train hard and become the Queen you want. Please give me the chance. Now only three of them are left, and I don't think any of them are going to get the power. I have already turned 18. I should have been crowned by now. I'm your elder daughter, and I'm the one who is supposed to be the Queen. Then why should we wait? Please father. I waited for this chance since I was a child. I dreamed to be the Queen and watch over my peoples. It's my only wish to you.” Zene saw her sister joining her hands in front of their parents and begging to make her the Queen.

It's true that she always wanted to become the Queen. She always acted like a queen in front of everyone. Even to her sisters. It's her one and only dream.

“I'm sorry Sylvia, but we can't decide it like this. The Queen is supposed to have the power of both kinds. Only this way she can rule our worlds. You have to understand them, you have to feel like them, you have to get strength like them. In one word you have to become like your peoples to be their ruler. We have to wait until the end to get our future Queen.” King Triton announced.

“But what if there isn't someone like you saying? What then?” Sylvia asked her parents.

“We will wait till all of our eight daughters are shifted. If still none of you get the ability we are expecting, then I promise that you will be the one who we will get crowned as our Queen. You are our firstborn child, so this position only can go to you. But you have to wait till then.” As soon as her mother said that, Sylvia became happy.

“I will mother. I will wait till then. I can't wait for the day you will crown me. I'm going to be both kinds, Queen.” She said in a chirpy voice. According to her, none of her sisters are going to get the power. So it is fixed that she is going to be the Queen.

Standing in the doorway, Zene saw everything. She saw how her sister dreams to be the Queen. How much she's determined to sit on the throne. How her parents promised her to make her the Queen. Everything…

Her mood became sad, and she went towards her room instead of going to her parents. Her mind was repeating every word her sister said. Zene knows that if she tells everyone the truth now, Sylvia would become heartbroken. All her dreams will be crushed. She would cry a lot from the loss.

Tears are the only thing Zene doesn't like. She never cries, no matter how sad she is. And she also doesn't like when someone shreds tears. Whenever a baby cries somewhere, she rushes to them and makes them smile. That's why all the kids of their land love her a lot. And her little sister Kallianassa or Kally loves her the most. She is the only one among her seven sisters who like her and always plays with her. The rest of them just likes to follow Sylvia. Sylvia has the personality of a ruler. Maybe that's why everyone follows her and respects her. Maybe she is the one who's destined to become the Queen without the special abilities.

Zene was thinking all of this when she came in front of her big twin sisters room. Usually, she never sneaks into someone's room but when she heard someone utter her name, she stopped on her way. After listening carefully, she found out that not only her big twin sisters but all of them were present in that room. Only Sylvia, Kally, and her were absent.

“Thankfully Zene is not our Queen. She's already our parents' favorite daughter. I don't know what they would have done if she turned out to be the Queen.” One of them said.

“Yeah, you are right. I don't like her a bit. Thanks to the almighty God that she's not the one.” Another one said.

Zene already thinks of herself as a queen because she's different from us. Because of her beauty, she has become such an arrogant girl.” Another one said.

“I hate to even call her my sister. I prayed to God so that she doesn't turn out to be the Queen. She doesn't deserve to be the Queen.” One of them said.

“I think Sylvia is the best choice for that position. She likes us and I think we could muster her to support us into anything. I hope she becomes the Queen at last.”

“Yeah. That's true. Next year is our turn, but we really don't want to be the Queen. I mean, I don't think we have enough strength to watch over the whole land. It's too much pressure.” Zene heard her little twin sisters say.

All of their words broke Zene's heart. She knew her sisters doesn't like her, but she never knew that they hate her so much. Now she regrets getting those abilities. She doesn't want to be the Queen anymore. Her sisters already hate her, and she doesn't want them to hate her more by being the Queen. So she finally decided that it's better if the truth stays hidden. It's better if Sylvia becomes the Queen like she always dreamed of. Only this way everyone will get the happiness they want.

Zene ran into her room and locked it from inside. After so many years, finally, today tears dared to come into her eyes. But she stopped herself from shedding even one drop. She once made a promise to herself that she will never cry. So she will keep her promise. But today she made another promise to herself, that she won't tell anyone about her ability. She will keep it buried deep inside her. Sylvia will become the Queen everyone always thought of. Maybe this way one day her sisters will love her.

Although she decided on her future and made herself strong again, she never turned into the happy girl she once was. Her sister's hateful words broke something inside her. Since that day she presents herself in front of everyone as a joyful girl. But whenever she's alone, sadness drowns her into the dark. In the daytime, she keeps smiling in front of everyone, plays with kids, and makes them happy, she helps her parents few times with their works. But at night when everyone falls asleep, she goes to her spot on the rocky beach, sits in her exact seat, and drowns herself in sadness. She even sings the painful song of her heart with the soft melody of the ocean waves.

The only person who noticed her sudden change was her little sister Kally. She likes to stay with Zene most of the time and play with her. So she knows her more than any of her sisters, or you can say anyone of this island.

“Zene, what happened? Why the sad face?” Kelly asked her right after few days from her birthday.

“What do you mean? When did I have a sad face?” Zene asked her like she isn't understand anything her sister is saying. But inside she knew what she's talking about.

“Your smile is not bright like it always used to be. Did something happen?” She asked her.

“No. Nothing happened. I'm perfectly fine.” Zene lied to her.

“It's because you didn't turn into an angel, isn't it? Don't worry. No matter who you are, you will always be my best sister. I will always love you. And if I become the Queen, I will give my position to you because you are the best.” Little Kelly's words made Zene happy. She finally gave a true smile after so many days of hearing her little sister sweet talk and hugged her.

Zene realized that Kelly is the only one who truly loves her. From that day Kelly became closer to her. They started staying together all the time. Seeing their closeness, the rest of their sisters became jealous of them. They started hating Kelly because she loves Zene more than them. But it didn't affect Kelly. For her, Zene is enough to give her the sisters' love.

As for Zene's abilities. Every night when everyone falls asleep, she goes to her private spot and shifts into each of her forms once. She found out that the new tail and the new layers of white see-through fins she got, helps her to swim faster than any normal Mermaid. She can swim miles in just the blink of anyone's eyes. She already knew how to use her tail from before, so it was not a problem for her. But the new form she got of Angel, was creating problems for her.

He mustered the process of shifting into an angel and grow wings and shift back into her normal self in just a few days. For the first few days, it was painful for her, but then everything became smooth. Once she learned to control her wings, she slowly started flapping them. Day by day she learned to flap it faster and one day she made it few inches above the ground. But unfortunately, she didn't know how to move, so she fell down.

Zene tried to fly few more times but every time she ended up falling down on the ground. This made her sad again. If she could tell her parents about her Angel form, her mother would surely teach her how to fly. Now that nobody is with her, she has to taste the defeat every time. Sitting on the sandy beach near the ocean, she started thinking about what to do. How can she learn to fly?

All of a sudden an idea came into her mind. If she asks her mother to show her how to fly, her mother won't deny her request. The next day she did exactly according to her plan. She went to her mother and requested her to show her how she flies. Queen Angelia thought it was just her daughter's interest to see her fly, so she did it without any further questions.

Zene noticed every single detail of how her mother's wing works. That night, Zene went to her place and tried to copy her mother. She opened her wings and made them wide as her mother did. Then after flapping her wings two big swifts, she jumped up. When she saw that she's enough above the ground, she started flapping her wings faster. It worked. She successfully learned to fly up. Then Slowly with every passing day, she learned to move around and fly better and better. It took her months to learn it, but finally, she succeeded to learn flying like an angel.

Not only that but few months after her shift, she found out that she has special powers. She can control water and air. At first, she was scared to use her powers because she didn't know what damage they can cause. But slowly she started trying to control those elements out of her eagerness. It took her almost a year to completely learn to control water and air. But finally, after one year, she mustered all of her powers excellently.

Now she can fly and swim faster than light. She can control water and air however she wants. She became the Queen her parents expected. But unfortunately, she never told anyone the truth. And she doesn't intend to in the future...
