The next morning, I woke with a startling jolt, and turned to wake up Zoe and tell her everything about my dream. But she wasn’t there beside me. Then I remembered that she’d decided to take up Victor’s offer on her own private room. She insisted that her constant training and patrolling schedules would be a nuisance to me. I tried to convince her otherwise, but ultimately decided not to give her grief about it. She seemed to have taken fondly to her new roles in this pack, and though that fact alone didn’t thrill me, I couldn’t rob her of the little bit of contentment she’d discovered here.
