NADINE
“Watch it young lady! You should be careful.” A guard snapped firmly. Hissing under his breath.
“I'm so sorry” I replied sharply.
“This is a bad idea. I shouldn't have agreed to serve this drink in place of Danika. Nadine, you have to put yourself together.” I murmured under my breath.
My hands were shaking. I placed the tray on my left hand as I struggled to open the door with my right hand. Before I knew what was happening I lost grip of the tray as I tripped. The glass shattered on the ground with a sharp crack. My eyes went wide open.
Before I could hit the ground, A strong arm caught me, pulling me close to his muscular chest. His silver eyes locked into mine. My breath seized for a moment. The tension was palpable. His expression was unreadable as he gazed down at me, caught between something deeper that I couldn’t explain.
There was silence between us for a moment. Then he immediately let go of me.
“Oh ……… I'm sorry my alpha”
“You should be careful and more focused.”
He snarled, his voice dominant and fearful as he let go of me sharply.
The sound of his voice echoed the whole room and it sent shivers to my spine.
“I'm…….., I'm very sorry my Alpha,” I responded almost immediately as I went on my knees without hesitation. My hands were shaky and my head bowed low to avoid his gaze.
I think it was a bad idea helping Danika to serve Xander in his study. How did I trip? Now I've ruined everything by spilling wine on the floor. What was I even thinking!
“Nadine, what were you thinking?” I said to myself.
“By the way, who are you? How did you get here?”
“I'm……”
Hollio’s voice interrupted immediately.
“She is Nadine. The girl we told you about. The one the rogue hunters found at the border of our pack.
Hollio, as my beta, you should know better than to have her come before me at this time.
“I'm sorry Xander. I handed her over to Aria, the head of the servants, as you instructed. I guess she asked her to serve you without properly teaching her the ethics. I will fix this immediately.”
You better do.
I was curious to see the face of the voice I was hearing again. I raised my head to steal glances at Xander. The sound of his sweet voice couldn’t stop ringing in my ears. I was literally taken away.
My gaze locked into xander. His strong muscular frame seemed to ripple with power beneath his tight white shirt he wore with style. His silver eyes glinted brightly like stars in the sky. His long black hair, tied with a black ribbon fell effortlessly on his back which added to his commanding presence.
I couldn’t help myself as my lips parted slightly, a tiny drop of drool escaped unnoticed as I was completely lost in the allure of his raw magnetic energy.
He had the most amazing figure I had ever seen.
Damn it!
He is so hot!
Gosh! I was swept off my feet by his body build up.
“Get your silly self up and get the f**k out of here.” Hollio commanded fiercely.
I was taken aback by the tone of his voice and I stood up without hesitation to leave.
Hey!
I paused immediately with fear. Standing motionless at the door.
“Come back here! Don’t forget to get a mop and clean this place up.”
“Yes sir.” I responded sharply. Nodding my head.
“Now leave”
Hollio quickly faced Xander and apologized for the mess.
I hurriedly left the study. I was literally panting.
Xander must really be pissed right now and Hollio didn't make it any better.
“I must fix this mess immediately.”
******
Few minutes later, I returned with a mop bucket in my hand. Drops of sweat on my forehead. I wiped them roughly with my arm.
I withdrew the knock on the door when I heard a strange woman's voice from beyond the door.
“You're not just my man, you're my alpha and I will soon be your luna. The lady in the room sounded boastful.
“Who could that be? Maybe I should just go back.” I questioned myself still holding the green mop bucket as I eavesdropped on their conversation.
After a few minutes, I knocked on the door regardless and I walked in after I heard an affirmation to go in to clean up the mess I had created earlier.
I will just do my cleaning and leave, I said to myself, looking away shyly while bowing my head.
“You're every girl's dream but it’s a pity that you're all mine now. Every inch of you screams Alpha.”
Lana's voice brimmed with pride as she leaned on him caressing his body. She barely paused for breath as she kept going on and on about him.
I turned intermittently to look at her as she continued talking.
“I'm telling you Xander, it's only a matter of time before I become your Luna. Everyone will know that I'm the only one worthy to rule beside you as queen. She uttered with pride and excitement in every of her words.
She couldn’t even hide the satisfied smile that spread across her face.
I could smell pride and arrogance in her voice. I ignored them and continued with what I was doing.
“Why am I having these feelings anyways? Why are her words getting to me? I questioned myself with suspicion in my tone.
I'm done here. I should take my leave.
Mtweeeeeew……..
“Leave!”
“I said leave! Your presence irritates me.
Irk………you stink.” Lana snarled as she hissed over her shoulders.
I hurriedly bowed, shot the door and left.
As I hurried off to the kitchen to return the mop bucket I met Danika, one of the very few people in the pack house that’s been nice to me.
I could actually call her my friend as she's been helping me get through with my job in the pack.
Danika stretched out her two hands right in front of me.
“Slow down Nadine. You seem to be running away from your shadow. What are you running away from?” She said with surprise in her tone as she scanned around to see what was chasing me.
It's nothing Danika. I replied almost immediately, dropping the mop bucket I had in my hand on the ground.
I swallowed hard.
“Lana is mean. She acted like a b***h right in front of me and she also humiliated me. I don’t pray to ever cross part with her again though.”
“That small witch, she prides herself as Luna. In my opinion she should be dining with turkeys.” She whispered, gazing around to check for anyone around.
We both burst into laughter, the tension dissolving into the warm comfort of our friendship.
“You sure have a way to make everything light around here. I said still chuckling as I turned the kitchen door knob opened and we both entered.
Come to think of it, should I ask Danika about the men I saw her with in the garden last night? I think it's right to ask her. She's my friend anyways.
“Danika…….”
