Chapter 6

2364 Words
Dinner is over and after a few discussions, Sherry's mother suggests that she shows Alpha Zack Daniels into his room and that's how she finds herself alone with him, walking him to his room. They're both silent and Sherry doesn't really know what to say honestly and it becomes apparent to her that Zack is a man of a few words hence she doubts he has some conversation starters up his sleeves. “This way.” she says and turns to the right. She wonders why this have to feel so awkward. “I remember it now.” Zack starts, making Sherry to turn to him with a look of curiosity. “The first time we met...it was a long time ago, wasn't it? In Arnold's Pack.” Knowing that he remembers their meetings makes Sherry feel a bit better. “It took you a while.” she says and smiles, unable to contain that she's quite glad he at least remembers her. “If I saw you in daylight, I for sure would have remembered you instantly. There's no way I wouldn't remember you.” Zack insists, making her heart to make a small leap and she immediately stops and looks at him intently. She's wondering what he is trying to say. “We only met for a few moments, why would that be significant in any way, Alpha?” she asks, her eyebrows raised in concern. That makes him to chuckle softly and he puts his hand up to take a strand of Sherry's hair and he puts it closer to his nose. Weird huh?! “Anyone would remember you if they saw you.” Zack states simply. Sherry can feel blood rushing to her cheeks at what Zack has done and her heart beats even faster. She thinks he's such a flirt! “D-don't make excuses. You didn't remember me when you first saw me. It's not really a big deal since it was a long time ago.” she says, stepping away from him such that he lets go of her hair. “Anyway, your room is that one!” she adds, pointing at the first door. Zack turns around to look at the door she has just pointed and she grabs that opportunity to walk away from him. “I'll see you tomorrow or something.” she says and quickly gets away from there. Before she's fully out of sight, she hears him muttering something again. “Running away again?” He really thinks she's escaping from him? Is Sherry Harvey really running away from Zack Daniels? That's not it at all! She's just giving him time to rest because she thinks he must be tired after all. He has traveled for hours so as to get to Sherry's Pack and she'll be inconsiderate enough if she doesn't leave him to rest. Sherry doesn't reply, instead, she decides to go for a run to relieve some stress. She runs outside and finds a female Pack border guard. She explains to her that she's going for a run and she nods. The guard guides her to one of the changing rooms which they have beside the forests where Sherry and the rest can leave their clothes so that they don't have to rip every time they shift. After changing into an oversized t-shirt, she walks out and shifts to her wolf. Shifting doesn't hurt since she has done it many times since she became of age. It doesn't take long for her to be on all fours and when she opens her eyes again, she find out that she has successfully shifted. Sherry lets her wolf to have control of her whole being. In her wolf form, she stretches and shakes her grey fur before she goes for a run around the territory. ***** A few days have passed since Zack and his people visited and today, Sherry is packing some of her clothes already. The day of her departure is getting closer and as much as she hates it, it's time to prepare and say goodbye. It's customary for the female wolves to follow their mates to their Packs if they're from different Packs and it's very rare that it would be the other way round. Her mate is an Alpha and there's no way she's going to escape following him to his Pack. As she continues packing, her mother knocks at her door and she ushers her in absentmindedly. Sherry looks up to her mother and smiles. She reciprocates the smile and walks towards her. Sherry's mother notices that her daughter is folding her clothes and arranging them in a traveling bag. The outgoing Luna sits on a chair in front of Sherry and also starts helping in folding the clothes that she's going to carry with her. As they continue folding her clothes, she suddenly hears her mother stifling, making her to immediately look up only to notice that she has tears in her eyes, something that makes Sherry to feel sad as well. She stands from her place and kneels down in front of her mother. “What's wrong mommy, isn't finding my mate what you've wanted all along? Haven't you wanted me to be a strong Luna, something which is happening right now mom?” Sherry asks, making her mother to put a hand on her cheek. “I know I've been hard on raising you Sherry. I always had a feeling that you were going to be a Luna and I wanted to prepare you for that. You know the hardship I went through because I wasn't ready for this position. I didn't want that to be the same for you. I hope you forgive me if I've been too hard on you and I just want you to know that I love you so much.” her mother says with tears in her eyes. Sherry smiles at her and shakes her head. She perfectly understands where she's coming from. Before Sherry's mother became a Luna, she was just a regular Pack wolf before she and Alpha Harvey met. A lot of people expected the Delta or the Beta's daughter to be Alpha Harvey's mate so their Pack was shocked when they found out it was just a regular wolf. She had a lot of hardships in her first few years of being a Luna because she was unprepared and untrained and that's why she raised Sherry that way. All her mother wanted was for Sherry to be strong and to be able to handle her own problems, something which Sherry is more than thankful enough for. “Mum, look at me, I'm going to be fine. You have nothing to worry about.” Sherry puts her hand over her mother's. “And your mate, I can sense he's a good man, but wasn't there that girl? Everyone was sure that they would be each other's mates. How did things turn out to be this way?” she asks worriedly, more to herself than to her daughter. Sherry immediately knows she's talking about Charlotte Oliver and she'll be lying if she says she isn't having the same thoughts, but all she wants is to assure her mother that she's going to be just fine. “Look at you worrying over small things, mother. You're forgetting that I'm your daughter. Whoever she may be, I'm his mate and not her!” Sherry says confidently. One's mate has more power over them than their former girlfriends, right? That assurance alone makes Sherry's mother to stop crying and she nods. “Of course, you're my baby.” she says and Sherry smiles at her again. She stands up and goes back to the place she was initially. “Now then, we have to hurry and finish this up since tomorrow is the big day.” ***** The D-day is here and Sherry slides in a navy blue dress as she observes herself in the mirror. She then decides to tie her hair up in a messy bun and before leaving her room, she takes one last look at it. It saddens her that her room is mostly empty now since she has put away the pictures that she's leaving behind and most of her items since no one will be using them from now onwards. It's quite strange to see the room that she has had for over nineteen years now reduced to a few items. Before Sherry can feel depressed any further, she closes her room's door, understanding that she's also closing a chapter in her life. She then walks downstairs and finds her parents waiting for her at the living room. They've already changed to formal attires. Alpha Harvey is wearing a suit while the Luna is wearing a peach dress, matching my her mate's shirt. Seeing that, Sherry realises that this is all very real. She really is going to leave now and she wouldn't be able to see them as often as before. She wouldn't wake up to her mother cooking her breakfast and her father asking about her plans for the day. She also wouldn't be bothered by Jeff but she knows that she's going to miss that also. Sherry feels a bit teary eyed but she's quick to force those threatening tears back in. “Shall we?” she says with a big smile and her parents force a smile too and nod. They all walk outside their house towards the Pack House and during this small trip, Sherry tries lightening up the mood. “Mum, remember not to worry too much about me, alright? Don't clean my room too much either. I've hid my journals there so I trust you won't snoop around and read them. And Dad, don't worry too much about the problems of the Pack. You've retired from your position already so let Jeffrey take care of it all.” she reminds them all. As they step out, they see the line of cars waiting for her together with other Pack leaders as well as their Pack members who came to bid Sherry farewell. She's feeling really heavy inside, wondering why they all had to come? This makes her even more emotional! She spots Zack and his Beta, whose name is Cyrus coming nearer and her brother Jeff also walks closer to them. “Good morning, Alpha Zack, Beta Cyrus.” Alpha Harvey greets them both. “We'll let Sherry say her farewell first and I hope that's not too much trouble.” “Of course.” Cyrus says while nodding. Sherry takes a deep breath and faces her Pack members. Some of them are her classmates when she was young, some she has trained with and some are those she worked with. Some, she went on runs with, and many more....Many people have come to bid her farewell. She smiles at them and bows deeply, showing them her gratitude. “Oh please, don't bow to us Sherry!” one of them says. “We will miss you!” “You'll make a fine Luna, Sherry.” Sherry hears many things from them as she keeps her head bowed and when she finally raises her head back up, they all stop. Some of them clearly have looks that are sorrowful at her departure. “Everyone, I just want to tell you all that I love all of you, truly. You all hold a special place in my heart and I sincerely hope that you all will be well until we see each other again.” she says and bows briefly yet again. She then turns to her current Pack leaders, her brother Jeff and his mate, the Beta and his mate and also their Gamma who is yet to find his mate and she bows to them briefly. “I know that all of you are strong and righteous leaders so I won't worry much of our Pack's well being, except for you Jeff.” she says as a joke and they all laugh. Amelia and Emily are crying. They are Sherry's best friends whom they spent their childhood together and of course, she feels sad too. “Don't cry. You two can always visit me, I'll welcome you anytime. And Emily, you're the last to find your mate so Amelia and I won the bet.” she says and again, they all laugh and say their final goodbyes. Finally, Sherry turns back to her parents and for the last time, she bows to them again. She wants to thank them for all that they have done for her since birth. “Please stay safe and healthy. I love you both.” she tells them and finally gives them a hug. They both nod and pat her back and her father holds her hand as he walks her to Zack. He does something that Sherry doesn't expect at all....With her hand that he's holding, he holds it up to Zack. “Please take care of my daughter, Alpha. She is very precious to us.” he says and that's when the tears that Sherry was holding back falls involuntarily. Zack also seems to be surprised, but he's quick to recover. He slowly takes Sherry's hand from her father and plants a kiss on it. “I will try my best to treasure her as much as you and your Pack did, sir.” Zack assures him and the contact of their skins cause an eruption of spark to travel into her body again. “Good, good. Now, you must be on your way so you can arrive in your Pack early.” Alpha Harvey says. Zack and Cyrus nod and Cyrus is the first to leave and start the car. Their Pack members have also already entered their car and one by one, their cars start to leave. “Can we go?” Zack asks Sherry and she looks at him for a moment and then nods. She has no idea what awaits her when she arrives at his Pack, but she can only hope that all will turn out for the better....At least, she's quite hopeful...
