Hannah was leaving for the office when suddenly someone hugged her from behind. She was shocked and quickly looked back. It was Liam. He turned her towards himself and cupped her face. "You look beautiful today," he said softly.
Hannah's face turned bright red. She was blushing hard and stammered, "Oh, thanks. Thank you." She tried to break free from his grip, but Liam held her gently. "Seriously? You are ignoring me after what happened between us last night?"
"No, I am not ignoring you," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I just need to go. I’ll see you soon."
Before she left the room, she turned around and said, "Liam, today Mike is going to take over your place. It is better for you to come out. As soon as they see you on your feet, Mike won't be able to take your place."
Liam's lips curled into a smile, his large steps covered the gap quickly and hugged her tightly. "You care for me, don't you?" Hannah felt a strange sensation inside but didn’t show it. She looked straight into his eyes and said, "It's not about caring. I just want to get away from you as soon as this family settles down."
Liam's warm eyes turned cold. He grabbed her shoulders a little harder and looked deeply into her eyes. "You are not going Hannah was sitting at her desk, deeply engrossed in her file, when Lily, her friend at work, came running towards her. Lily plopped down in the chair beside her, panting a little from her excitement.
"Hannah, you won't believe what's going on!" Lily exclaimed.
Hannah looked up, slightly annoyed by the interruption. "What is it, Lily?"
"They're removing Liam Miller! Mike is taking over as CEO. There's a conference going on right now in the conference room," Lily said breathlessly.
Hannah's heart skipped a beat, but she tried to remain calm. "Why are you telling me this? It has nothing to do with me. Whether it's Liam or Mike as CEO, our work stays the same," she replied, her voice steady.
Lily looked at her incredulously. "You really don't care, do you? I mean, it's good for you, right? Mike taking over?"
Hannah's pen stopped mid-sentence, and she looked up at Lily. "How is it good for me if Mike takes over?"
"Oh, come on, Hannah. Don't pretend. I saw you getting into his car. I know you're close to him. And I've seen the way he looks at you," Lily said with a teasing smile.
Hannah's eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her surprise. "Have you lost your mind? He's just our boss. He gave me a ride home as a favor, nothing more."
Lily's smile widened. "Okay, if you say so."
Meanwhile, in the conference room, Diana, the chairwoman, was sitting at the head of the table with all the board members around her. Mike was standing beside her, looking confident.
Diana began, "Good afternoon, everyone. As you all know, Liam is still bedridden, and the company needs a CEO to handle important deals. So, I am suggesting Mike for the position. Please raise your hands if you agree."
Every hand in the room went up in support of Diana's decision. She smiled, pleased with the unanimous approval.
"Okay, fine. I announce Mike as the new CEO," she was about to declare when the door to the conference room burst open.
"Stop!" A voice commanded.
Everyone turned to see Liam walking into the room, standing tall and strong. There was a collective gasp of shock. Diana's eyes widened in surprise, and she rose from her chair.
"Liam!" she exclaimed.
Liam walked towards his grandmother and hugged her. "Chairwoman, there's no need to worry. I'm back on my feet. We are going to see a new level of success with me here."
Diana was speechless for a moment, then smiled and hugged him back. "Welcome back, Liam. This is incredible news."
Liam then turned to Mike. "Thank you for stepping in, Mike."
Mike forced a smile and hugged him. "Welcome back, big brother," he said, but his eyes betrayed a hint of jealousy.
Back at her desk, Hannah was trying to focus on her work when she heard the commotion from the conference room. She knew something big had happened.
Lily ran back to her. "Hannah, you won't believe it! Liam just walked into the conference room. He's back on his feet!"
Hannah felt a mix of relief and anxiety. "Really? That's... that's good," she said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Lily nodded, her eyes wide with excitement. "Yeah, it was unbelievable. Everyone was so shocked."
Hannah managed a smile. "Well, I guess things are going to be interesting around here." Suddenly her phone rang. She looked down and saw it was from Sophia. She rolled her eyes, not wanting to pick it up, but she did anyway.
"Hello," she said.
"Just come back home right now," Sophia demanded. "I want you at home. Don't worry about explaining to HR. I've already talked to them. Come home now. I need to talk to you."
Without waiting for a reply, Sophia hung up. Hannah wanted to give a rude reply but held herself back. She didn't want to get into trouble. Quickly, she gathered her things and hurried to the Miller Mansion.
As soon as she arrived, she saw Sophia sitting with her stepmother, Jessica. Hannah was shocked. She looked at Jessica with narrow eyes and said, "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at home taking care of Dad?"
Jessica gritted her teeth. "Where are your manners, girl? What did I teach you?" She came very close and whispered, "Do you really think that marrying into this family means you can talk back to me? Soon, I'll show you your place. Do you get that?"
Jessica’s grip left marks on Hannah's soft skin. Hannah rubbed her hand and searched Jessica's face. "What happened?" she asked.
Sophia smirked and walked towards Hannah. "Now that my son is back on his feet, here are the divorce papers. Sign them and leave right now."
Hannah looked at Sophia and said, "No, I'm not going to sign until Liam asks me to."
Sophia was shocked. "What? What did you just say? How dare you talk to me like that? We had a deal. As soon as my son got back on his feet, you would divorce him. Now sign and leave!"
One part of Hannah wanted to sign and leave this life, this prison. She wanted to leave everything behind and start anew. But another part of her held back. That part of her had started liking Liam, his closeness, his kisses, and everything he gave to her. She was lost in thought when Jessica interrupted.
"Sign these papers and let's leave. Go pack your bags."
Sophia interrupted, "No need for that. I already packed her bags. And for your information, Hannah, before leaving, Liam gave me these papers and asked me to get you to sign them. He doesn't want to see your face when he comes back from the office."
Hannah was shocked. In the morning, Liam had shown his possessiveness, not wanting her to leave. And now he wanted her gone? She breathed out and took the divorce papers. With a heavy heart, she signed them.
Jessica was elated. She looked at Sophia with greedy eyes. Sophia rolled her eyes and said casually, "You'll get your p*****t. Now leave with this dirty lot of yours. And I don't want your daughter to show up in front of Liam ever again. He wants this too."
Hannah wanted to see her room one last time. But as she moved to go upstairs, Sophia stopped her. "Hey, where are you going? That's not your room anymore. Olivia is back. Now it's her room with Liam. You already know she's his first love."
The mere thought of Liam loving another woman was killing Hannah slowly from inside. She gulped the lump forming in her throat and said, "Fine." With Jessica, she left the house. Her billionaire, once-paralyzed husband was now her ex-husband.
