I have been driving my sports car to work everyday for the past three weeks since my Minnie gave me problems. The first and last time I spoke to Mr. sexy brown eyes Kenny.
He was working on the last floor so there was no ways of bumping into him as his private lift was working again. He had no use for staff elevator anymore.
I always knew when he was at work because I saw his car everyday. In the last three weeks, I have seen three different cars parked in his spot. The Mustang GT. A Ferrari coupe and SAB.
He sure had great taste when it came to his choice of cars. I loved fast cars.
I had managed to work through my work that left me with an hour to kill for lunch.
I have been having lunch in my office for the past three weeks. I decided to go out for lunch but I did not want to eat alone so I called April.
"How do you feel about lunch babe?"
“You’re paying?”
“Yes I am Chika, we could go to that restaurant near your campus”
"Sounds great, be there in ten"
I told her the name of the place and as promised I saw her car parking in the sidewalk of the restaurant. I waved from the window. I had already ordered for us. She came straight to the table I was sitting at.
"So I see they let you out of confinement today," she said as she pulled a chair.
"Yes it seems the warden is not around...,” we both laughed.”I hope you're in the mood for meat, I ordered steak, and I can't handle a salad right now..."
"Steak sounds great babes, I have a test in an hour so it will have to be a quick one..." "Fine I’ll take that..."
We sat for a moment I was starring at her as she went through her phone. Moments later, she put it down on the table face down and looked at me.
"So what are your plans for later on? I was thinking we could go out for drinks seeing that you can't have one right now with your test and all..."
The waiter bought our food along with two glasses of ice-cold water with lemon. "Going out for me tonight is a complete No! I’m writing back to back tests this week plus I have been partying up a storm while you where slaving away in you office honey"
"A beer wouldn’t hurt; we're eating meat after all..." She said after a moment.
"We'll have two Millers please, I a glass with a slice of lemon please."
The young man wrote in his note pad and disappeared into the crowd, probably to get our drinks from the bar.
"What is it with you and lemons even in the damn beers Bella, like I think if you're going to enjoy the crisp taste of malt then you should have it in its purest form, that means ice cold in its bottle! " she pulled a pout at me.
"I couldn’t agree more on that" came a male voice from behind my ears.
"Excuse me! Do you mind? You do know that you are intruding on a private conversation between two sisters..."Yep that was my April out there.
That was she in a different shade of Barbie. Now she was the bitchy Barbie and I was even too afraid to look behind me. I sat still as walked by and pulled a chair.
"Excuse me, where are my manners, I am Christopher but you can just call me Chris..."He reached out his hand to her but she tilted back to her chair and folded her arms on her big breasts.
I knew who he was and I had mentioned him once or twice so she didn’t really know him which explained her Barbie attitude.
"And..." she glazed at him with her eyes wide open.
"This is Chris from the office, we work in the same building, Chris this is my sister April and please excuse her 'Attitude' " I looked at her and put a mask on.
” She’s normally not this cranky..." I continued to say.
She reluctantly loosened her arms and reached out to shake his hand. He shook it. The waiter came back with three ice cold Millers in their original bottle, no ice, no glass and definitely no lemon.
"Thank you Ray..." he said to the waiter as he went away.
I was not even going to try to solve this mystery or dilemma that is in front of me right now. I dug into my plate and started chewing away my tender medium rare steak; at least I added a crispy salad as a side instead of fried chips.
Of course, April would complain as it was exactly what she wanted. I saw her grin when the drinks came.
“You never mentioned that you have such a beautiful sister Bella, are you keeping her all for your self?”
“Something like that…” I don’t know whether he is flirting with me or trying to impress April.
"Do you come here often? it's my first time seeing you here" he looked at me as he took a sip of his beer.
"Yep that’s pretty much it, do you come here a lot?" Of course, I would want to know, I am just that curious and after he rudely interrupted our conversation he might as well tell me.
"Yes, most of our business lunches and dinners are held here..." Even though April was acting like a Barbie earlier on I could see in the way, she was clinging on to his words that she liked him.
"So you two work in the same building hey..." April said as she took a large chunk of meat in mouth.
He nodded his head. "But you never talk?" She continued to say. I think by now she had caught on who he was and that was not a good thing.
I could see this conversation steering into a completely new different direction.
"No, if you haven’t heard, your sister is 'the office hermit' she goes in the morning and comes out at night, I think her boss might be over working her..." He said with a smile.
"Oh Chris! I am not a 'hermit ' as you say it! This is my first real job so I was just trying to find my feet first I guess..."Of course I was flushing. I do not think I had any color in my cheeks at that moment.
"Funny you should say that hey Chris, she doesn’t even have dinner with me anymore, I'm getting tired of eating dinner Alone at home every night, you need to find your feet fast, before life passes you by while you're buried in your work too busy to have a life."
She took another bite of her steak and threw it in her mouth. She looked at her wristwatch. A Michael Kors time piece like mine but in a different color gift from mom of course.
"Oh shoot I’m going to be late for class" She took her Miller and gulped it down her throat in one go. Not-very-lady-like at all. She took her jacket and came over to my chair. She kissed me on my forehead.
"See you tonight Chika, nice to meet you Chris, hope to see you soon again some day, please make sure my girl goes out more." she did not even wait for a response. She left us there.
“Chika?” he laughed a bit.
“Something we picked up as girls…”
Chris moved to Linda's chair. He moved her plate aside.
"So... how are you finding your job?" He looked at me with dangerously big black eyes.
I was going to face him eye to eye but he was just too gorgeous to look at. I had seen him from the first time we met that he was fine but being this close facing him on neutral grounds.
I cleared my throat first, after swallowing the last bit of my juicy steak in my mouth. "It's going great actually, I love working at Sullivan’s, everyone is friendly and I’m learning a lot from my boss, she's like mentoring me in a way."
"Your boss is an intelligent woman, though she completely sucks with gadgets and all things technology, she's old school, I should know, I’ve been working with her for past seven years, stick with her and she has a lot to offer, a bit pushy at times but her input based on experience is valuable ."
"Now you tell me! That woman is a slave driver but the best and kindest slave driver I have met though. She really does train me well giving me duties that matter.
I love my job so I’m not complaining the more work I get the more indisposable I get."
It was true. I was working towards that goal.
I wanted to be an asset to that publication house. I had lot to offer to them and they had a lot to teach me. This was my first professional job and after searching for a job for such a long time, I was going to hang on to this for dear life.
My boss was old. She could be leaving in the next five maximum seven years and if I am under her wings, the job is guaranteed to be mine.
"Clever thinking there Bella” I
Looked at my time and the hour was already up. Time really does fly when you are having a good time. I was enjoying my time with this hunk of a man.
"My time is up and I left my car back at the office, I have to get going if I want to get back in time." Driving through lunch time in New York is a nightmare, I took a cab here and I am taking one back to my office.I stood up and took out my purse from my bag.
He stood up and held my hand, stopping me from paying the bill. ”I’ve got this don't worry, you catching a cab back to the office?”
“Oh no! I couldn’t let you pay for my lunch and yes I am catching a cab back and by the looks of things I seem to be pressed for time." I continued to pursue fiddling with my purse.
He grabbed it from my hands leaving me surprised as he snatched it from my hands.
"I said I’ve got this, now grab your coat so that we can go to the office." He grabbed his car keys and cell phone from the table. "Come, let's go..." He held my hand.
"But... the bill, what about the bill, who's going to pay for our food?" I mean like I didn’t see him take out his wallet or pulling out cash somewhere.
"Don't worry, I know the owner., Its on the house" He said as he opened the restaurant door for me. He gave me a lift to the office promising to try to get me out more often.
We walked together to the office. We left our jackets at the upfront reception and went up the elevator. It was our second ride together and this time it was not all silence from both sides.
Chris and I had been acquainted so it was easier having a conversation with him now rather than a few weeks ago. His phone must have been on vibrate coz I didn't hear it ring.
"What the hell are you doing?" said the man on the other end of the phone. He sounded angry about something. The look on Chris face was more of amused in a way.
Like he had pissed whoever it was on the phone off. The lift stopped at my floor and I got off.
"We should do this again, lunch I mean," he said as I stepped off the lift.
"Yeah that would be great" and the lift closed. I went to my office and checked on my email. My boss has sent me a few specs for me to look at. I sat down and did my job. Before I knew it, it was six already. This being a Thursday and all, I would probably be home alone.
