Oh my GOD! Mr. "I'm always on my iPhone" helped me out. Probably because his phone was broken. I do not know what it was about him that I just could not get enough of though.
I took out my keys not knowing what to expect when entering my apartment. I could walk into a fret party or a house full of potheads. April is known to throw wild parties. I took a deep breath and brazed myself. I test the doorknob and it opens.
April is on her laptop on the couch with a glass of white wine on the table.
"Honey I’m home..." It was as if she was waiting for me. She heard my voice and jumped out of her seat.
"Where the hell have you been? April mom has been ringing the house non-stop worried sick about you... What happened? Why are you so late?" I really didn't realize how late it was until I saw the time on my wristwatch.
A Giorgio Armani timepiece. Another one of the extravagant gifts my mom bought for me.
"Oh shoot! April I was having car troubles, the darn thing wouldn’t start then my phone died, I will call mom in the morning." I walked to the breakfast bar and threw my purse on the kitchen counter. It was a long day and all I wanted to do was take a shower and dive into bed.
"Dinner is in the microwave, why haven’t you told mom you got a job? She was hurt you know..."
"Oh April you know mom likes to over react sometimes, I'll call her I just haven’t had a chance to get to that yet."
I went over to warm up my dinner, it was hake grilled fillets. "There's salad in the fridge..." Linda said as she went back to her laptop. I dished up and ate...
"I thought you went to dinner with Chris" I know she was just being sarcastic.
"It's Christopher and I haven't seen him since that other time in the lift..." I took a bite of my delicious salad.
"The lift? What happened in the lift? you still haven't told me what was wrong with your car," she said without turning to look at me.
"Nothing really, we spoke for a few minutes and he introduced himself, I don't know what was wrong with my car but Kenny fixed it..."
I smiled as I took a sip of my wine. I do not know what it is that had happened between the parking garage at the office and now but I somehow felt drawn to him.
Having the need to want him to be with me. Very gorgeous and very sexy too.
"Oh! I know that look! You like him don't you Bella?" I did not even see her make her way next to me but she was sitting next to me with a fork in her hand digging into my salad.
"Like who? I mean like I don't even know the guy and besides, he's out of my league, I could only dream of what might never be..." I took a sip of wine again. "I mean like, why would he fall for someone like me? I’m just a simple girl"
I was babbling which means I’m nervous.
"Not in that dress sweet cheecks, besides you're the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, why he wouldn’t fall for you, you’re gorgeous and I’m sure that man can see that too as well..." She smiled at me.
"April you're family of course you would say that, do you want to hear what happened or not?" She nodded her head.
I told her what had happened the first time I saw Kenny in the lift and again when he knocked me out flat on my ass literally. April was giggling like a little child. I am sure the thought of me lying flat on my ass was just too funny to hold it in.
"So he insisted on following you home?" She finally asked still giggling a bit.
"Can you believe that? He pretty much demanded to follow me home" I took a bite of my Fish.
"Let me get this straight, so the man bumps you over, then fixes your car to make up for it, and then he insists on following you home?" She stood and went to the fridge and came out with a half-full bottle of wine.
"Yep! That’s pretty much about it," I said as I took my last bite of hake.
"Bella, that man likes you! he may even like you more than you like him, why didn’t you invite him for a drink so I can see him myself, girl is he fine?" yep that was April for you.
"April, He's out of my league, I doubt if he would even remember my name tomorrow." I stood up and put the plate in the dishwasher.
"You'll never know until you try hey, I mean you don't have to fall in love with the guy, I can see that you like him already, it's not like you have a bunch of guys ringing your phone begging to be with you and besides, what do you have to lose?..." She refilled our wine glasses.
"What are you saying exactly babes"
"Oh do I have to spell it out for you! I mean like he can just be an office fling, have fun and live a little"
The idea sounded nice but I was never good with things like flings. I fall in love too quickly. I have been hurt so much, I had given up on finding the right one. I was not even looking for Mr. right-now, I was just happy being single.
"Isabella we have been here for six months now plus the additional eight months since your last break up with you know who, the one who's name we shouldn’t call" I knew she was going somewhere with this.
"So exactly what it is that you're saying to me April" I took a sip of my wine thinking about how bad my last relationship affected me.
"All I’m saying is that you have to let go of it someday and the only way to know for certain that you're over it and him is to move on. I mean like what have you got to lose if you pursue this. Come on Bella, you never like any of the dates I get you..."
April was saying all the right things to me. The things I needed to hear. It was then that i wished I still had a shrink, she would have explained this better to me.
"There's nothing I can do about it right now, I blew him off, probably forever..."
I might have done that earlier on but it was too late to go back and turn back moment in time and maybe try to be friendlier. I went to my room leaving Linda in the kitchen and going for my shower, it was just after eleven when I went to bed. Thinking of him and what it might be like to be with a man like that.
