A successive knocking on the door made Veronica groaned on her bed. She covered her ears with pillows and turned to her side. The sun has already risen and the birds were already chirping outside the pack house.
"V! Wake up!" Rachel's voice filled the entire room. She hopped onto Veronica's bed and vigorously shake her. Veronica cursed under her breath and removed the pillows.
"Rachel, it's fvcking early. What do you want?" she said, irritated. After Rafael caused a commotion in her heart, he left her and went to patrol the border. A helper named Eliana led her to this room. She fell asleep and for the first time, nightmares stopped visiting her. Rachel gasped and covered her ears.
"V! Don't cuss!" she said, her forehand creased while looking at her. Veronica proceeded to sigh and stood up. She pushed the curtain aside and let the sun's light enter her bedroom.
"Okay, fine!" she said. "Now tell me, what do you need?" she added and crossed her arms. Rachel giggled and went to her side. She clung at her waist and looked at her with those puppy eyes.
"Cook something for me, please," Rachel said. Veronica's face scrunched up. How could she possibly know how to cook? She was the only daughter of Henry Anderson and there's no way she would held a greasy saucepan, let alone cook.
"Damn it! What should I cook?" she said to herself. Her eyes suddenly lit up remembering the one thing she knew how to make.
"Is pancakes okay for you?" she asked the young Fortalejo and patted her head. Rachel hastily nodded her head and grinned at her. After washing her fave, Rachel pulled her downstairs, into the kitchen. She was still wearing her above the knee silk night gown.
Veronica started making the ingredients while the young Fortalejo watched her.
"Why didn't you wake Grace up?" she curiously asked while cooking the pancakes. Rachel frowned and sat on the chair.
"I don't like her," she casually said. Veronica put the pancake on the plate and started making another one.
"Why is that?" she asked once again.
"She's a complete faker," she said. Veronica paused and waited for Rachel to continue talking but she didn't. Veronica sighed and resumed.
Rafael on the other hand already finished his morning exercise and went to get his coffee. He halted when he saw Veronica's back. She was wearing a sleeveless night gown. Rafael cursed under his breath while his face darkened with lust.
He wanted to pull her and kiss her senselessly. Rafael has a hard time calming himself because the Alpha wolf in him wanted her. He just stood outside, leaning on the wall and watched Veronica's every move.
"What are you doing in here?" A voice behind him asked. Rafael closed his eyes and muttered strings of curses. It was Grace, his fiancée. The lust he was feeling for his mate subsided in an instant. Rafael turned his body, quickly pulled Grace close to him and kissed her on the lips.
Veronica heard Grace's voice and when she turned her head, she saw them kissing passionately in the doorway. Watching the scene in front of her made her heart sunk. She turned the stove off and clasped her chest. It's hurting like crazy.
"Enjoy your food, Rachel. I'll be in my room," she hurriedly said. She passed by them while bowing her head but Grace suddenly pulled her arm.
"Veronica, I'm sorry about that," Grace shyly said and slapped Rafael's chest.
"No, it's okay. Excuse me," Veronica said and smiled at them. She saw Rafael's expression softened while looking at her. Grace removed her hand from her arm and smiled once again. She quickly ascended and went inside her room.
Veronica slumped on the bed. She wanted to tear something or someone off. She's panting heavily, hands clasped together. The mate pull is getting unbearable each time she faced Rafael.
"V, let's fight for our right," Vien softly said. Veronica snapped out of her thoughts and bitterly laughed.
"Are you serious right now, Vien?" she asked. Vien whimpered.
"Please, V. He didn't reject us when he has a chance to do so," Vien said. "We can still take him back," she added, feeling a little hopeful as Rafael's wolf responded to her.
"This is my last request, V. Please, you have to do this," Vien said. "This might be our salvation for anything we had done," she added. Veronica heaved a sigh. Vien rarely do this and when she wants something, Veronica couldn't refuse her. She might not express it everyday but she loved the wolf inside of her that's been with her since the beginning.
"I'll try my best, Vien." It's the only replied she has said.
Rafael sat on the vacant chair next to his sister who's busy eating her pancakes. He patted her head but Rachel glared at him.
"You chased V away," she said with a frown. Rafael chuckled and scratched the back of his head.
"I did not," he replied casually. His sister's frowned was fierce and it deepened. Rafael heaved a sigh. He felt guilty to the point the he wanted to slam his head in the wall. The expression Veronica had earlier made his heart ache as if it was slowly being ripped inside. He wanted Veronica but he also wanted Grace at the same time. He is such a fvcking jerk of an Alpha. He gently looked at Grace who's now preparing their food.
"Rachel, what do you want?" Grace kindly asked the young Fortalejo. Rachel made face and ignored her.
"Rachel, she is asking you. Be nice and reply," Rafael said with his arms crossed. Grace's smile vanished immediately. Her gripped on the plate tightened seeing Rachel's glowering face.
"I'm already full. V cooked pancakes for me," she said and pointed her plate full of pancakes with chocolate syrup and strawberries at the top.
"Oh, okay. That's good then," Grace said with a smile on her face. Rafael and her, they've been together for almost year but his sister still doesn't like her. It maybe a because she's a low born. Just a mere member of pack that the Alpha take a liking on.
Rachel excused herself and went to Veronica's room. She wanted Veronica to accompany her.
"Don't mind her," Rafael said. Grace walked to his side and Rafael put his hand on her waist.
"You don't have work today, babe?" Grace asked him. Rafael held her hand and gently kissed it.
"Nothing --" Rafael's word was suddenly cut, he's interrupted by a link.
"Alpha, we have a situation in the border." His beta, Morgan Wright said. Rafael clenched his hand into fist.
"I have to go," he said and left Grace standing at the kitchen. Rafael hated rogues more than anything and now trespassing in his land? The rogues just signed themselves to death.
