"If something happens, call me right away, okay? I'll immediately go to you, V."
This was the exact words of Jarvis has told her while Rafael slowly dragged her away from the Mondragon's shop. Veronica intently watched him while she's waiting inside the car. Every move that Rafael makes, every clenched and unclenched his jaw made, and the way he talk.
Rafael was standing outside, his tall figure leaned on the fancy car he got. He finally put his phone back to his pocket and went inside, slamming the door in process.
"Reject me now, Rafael," Veronica said without hesitation.
"Veronica!" Vien gasped. She couldn't believe Veronica would say that to their mate. Veronica sighed internally.
"Let's face this, Vien. He is engaged. This bond will still fall to rejection, so why bother?" she said, a pang of pain hit her on the chest. It is bound to happen. This is her karma and Vien couldn't do anything about this. It was unfortunate but this is the reality.
Rafael gripped the steering wheel tightly and turned his head to her. "I can't," he said. The Alpha beast inside him won't allow this.
"Why? You will still reject me in due time, why won't you do it now when you still have a chance?" Veronica strongly said while crossing her arms. She needs to be strong for Vien. Rafael slammed his hand into the steering wheel. Veronica gulped as Rafael's eyes blaze with anger. This is the mighty and powerful Alpha of the South.
"I won't, alright!?" Rafael said, his voice raising.
"But you have a fiancée!" Veronica argued back. She won't easily back down in front of this Alpha. Rafael's expression softened after hearing what she has said. He looked at his ring and heaved a sigh. Moon Goddess really has her way of toying with them. He has long given up on finding his mate but now she appeared in front of him and make things more complicated.
"I'll solve this," he said and took his key. "And you're gonna stay with my pack from now on, mate," he added and drove away.
Rafael gently watched her as she sleeps with several hair blocking her angelic face. He tuck her hair behind her ear and tenderly caressed her cheeks. They had already arrived in the pack's vicinity but he still hasn't drove the car back to his own house. He parked in the nearest playground with no pack members around. Something inside of him wanted to claim her as his but he couldn't just ignore Grace who was with him the entire time.
Veronica stirred in her sleep and slowly opened her eyes making Rafael straightened his back. He fake coughed and quickly turned his head, avoiding her eyes.
"Where are we?" Veronica asked as she surveyed the place.
"We are in my pack," Rafael casually answered. Veronica nodded and remained in silence. Rafael drove once again and parked his car outside the pack house. He took a deep breaths and retained his composure. He went out and was followed by Veronica. The heavy door with old-style wolves carved on it opened.
"Welcome back, love!" A girl with a gentle smile gracefully trotted down wearing a yellow flowery dress. She quickly hugged Rafael's waist. Rafael kissed her on the forehead while Veronica bitterly looked at them. This girl is a total opposite of her and this is why Rafael choose to be with this woman. She has the grace and elegance fit to be the Luna of the strongest pack.
"Who is she?" Grace timidly asked. Rafael was about to say something but Veronica cut him off.
"I'm his friend," she said and gave her a small smile. Grace's face lit up. She immediately went to her and held her hands.
"Wow, you looked beautiful. What's your name?" Grace kindly asked her.
"Veronica," she simply answered and pulled her hands away.
"I'm Grace. Nice to meet you," she cheerily said. "Will you stay here with us?" she added. Rafael pulled Grace by the waist and stared at Veronica.
"She is. She's gonna stay here from now on and she will join our pack," Rafael said. Grace clapped her hands, she's ecstatic to have another she-wolf in the house.
"This is great news! Let's go, I cooked some food," she happily said. She intertwined her hands with his and together, they entered the house leaving Veronica who's still standing outside.
Veronica wanted to run away from Rafael's pack. She wanted to go back to Jarvis. She hated that the bond keeps getting stronger and it made her heart ache seeing Rafael and Grace. They're so perfect together. A match made from heaven.
Veronica sighed once again before entering the house. A helper guided her through the kitchen and she saw the two already seated. Veronica sat on the farthest chair, away from them. Grace's giggled filled the entire kitchen as she talked to Rafael about her day. Rafael laughed along with her, completely forgotten her existence.
"Brother, you're back!" A girl, about twelve years old ran towards Rafael and slightly pushed Grace aside causing her to accidentally shove the glass, it fell on the floor and shattered. She sat on Rafael's lap and pouted her small lips.
"Rachel, how many times do I have to tell you to be careful?" Rafael angrily said. "Grace are you alright?" he worriedly asked. Grace nodded her head. Veronica snickered when she saw Rachel raised her eyebrows at Grace. This one is definitely a brat.
"I'm okay, don't worry about me," Grace said and smiled. Rachel briefly looked at her and back to his brother.
"Where's my souvenir?" she asked. Rafael pinched her cheeks that it turned red.
"You need to apologize to Grace first," Rafael said. Rachel grimaced.
"Why? She already told you that she's okay," Rachel stubbornly said and crossed her arms. Rafael sighed at her attitude. He raised his sister and spoiled her after their parents died on the battle.
"I'll give it later. Go and take a seat," Rafael said, completely surrendered. With a dissatisfied looked on her face, Rachel went down from her brother's lap and sat on the chair. This is when she noticed Veronica, silently eating her food.
"Who is she?" she asked. Rafael gripped his utensils hard, finally remembering Veronica, his newfound mate that joined them today. He apologetically looked at her.
"She's my friend," Rafael seriously said. Rachel raised her eyebrows at her, trying to intimidate her as she is the sister of the strongest warrior but Veronica didn't back down. Instead, she also raised her eyebrows at her, challenging her. Rachel's smile widened.
"I like her!" she mumbled. Grace seemed surprised at Rachel's sudden declaration. Grace has been trying to befriend her in any way possible but the girl ignored her and to say that to Veronica, she must be very lucky.
"Well kid, I won't like you if you keep acting like that," Veronica jokingly said and winked at her. Rachel's eyes widened, she quickly apologized to her brother in which she rarely do. She giggled and transferred next to Veronica.
After eating, Rachel still clung to Veronica and kept talking non stop. The girl is so attached to her and won't leave her side.
"Rachel, go to Grace okay? I have to talk to Veronica, alone," Rafael ordered. Rachel frowned but followed her brother, leaving them alone on his office room.
"I'm sorry about earlier," he said.
"For what? For ignoring me? It's totally cool with me," she said and shrugged her shoulders. Rafael pinched the bridge of his nose. Being alone with her makes his wolf go crazy. He's trying his best to restrained him inside. Veronica's sweet scent filled his office and it's pure torture for him. Without a second thought, Rafael pulled her close to him and buried his head on her neck.
"What am I going to do with you, Veronica?" he said and inhaled her sweet scent. Veronica stilled on the floor. Her breath hitched.
Rafael wanted to mark her right here and then. He wanted to do things with her but his conscience won't let him betray Grace's trust on him.
"This is an utter bullshit. Why does it have to be us?" Rafael asked, his grip tightened around her. Veronica couldn't reply. She doesn't know what to say but this is the punishment for her sins.
