The smell of disinfectant wakes me first. I hate the smell and it's very strong, but the smells underneath it are even worse. I move and my whole body resents it. It takes me a moment to remember what happened. The attack, the escape tunnel, the women and the man trying to help them, the man that my animal side couldn't wait to be close to. The one they were going to shoot, and I couldn't help but try to protect.
I had dismissed the idea of True Mates over and over, but now I'm starting to understand what it is about. My mind keeps going back to that man, and suddenly the need to make sure he is okay is overwhelming.
"What are you doing?" my dad's voice reaches from the entrance of the room.
"I need to get out, I need to know what happened."
