Emma held a small suitcase in one hand and a piece of paper with an address in the other as she walked along Liu Xin Street, her clear eyes blinking as she searched for the Zuo family villa.
By this time, night had fallen, and Emma looked at the towering buildings surrounding her. She was momentarily dazzled, struggling to distinguish the directions.
How was she supposed to find her way on such a large Liu Xin Street?
“Miss, are you having trouble finding where you’re going?” A somewhat weak voice suddenly called out from behind her.
Emma jumped in surprise and quickly turned around.
A man, around thirty years old with a pale complexion, was staring at her with eyes that were eerily hollow.
“Uh, I, I can find it,” she stammered. The man's gaze looked so frightening that she instinctively refused his help, even though she desperately needed someone to tell her how to get to the Zuo family home.
“Miss, I often hang around here. Just tell me the name of the family, and I can easily find it for you,” the man continued, covering his mouth with his bony hand as he yawned.
Emma frowned.
“No, thank you. I think I can manage on my own.” After saying that, she lifted her suitcase and prepared to cross the sidewalk.
But then something unexpected happened.
Just as she turned around, the man suddenly snatched the suitcase from her hands and ran off in the opposite direction!
Emma froze for a few seconds before realizing she was being robbed! However, the suitcase only contained a few changes of clothes and her recently obtained graduation certificate and ID—nothing valuable.
“Give it back! There’s no money inside!” Emma shouted after the retreating figure while sprinting after him.
Whether it was her urgency activating her running potential or the man's frail body, after about ten minutes, Emma had narrowed the distance between them to just about a meter.
“You, stop! Give it back! Or I’ll throw a rock at you!” Seeing the man still refusing to stop, Emma picked up a stone from a nearby flower bed and threatened to throw it at him.
The man looked back in fear, and upon seeing Emma holding a large rock, he panicked and, after a quick glance around, tossed the stolen suitcase onto the asphalt road dozens of meters away.
“Ah—”
“Whoosh—”
“Bang—”
…
A series of strange sounds erupted simultaneously. First was Emma's startled scream as the man threw the suitcase, followed by the screeching of a car's emergency brakes, and then the sound of Emma tripping over something and falling to the ground.
Damn it! It was unbelievable that an unknown object would fly into his windshield on his way home. If it weren't for his excellent driving skills, he might have met his end in such a ridiculous way. Ethan cursed softly as he got out of the car and walked to the front, only to be stunned by the sight before him.
A woman lay on the ground with her eyes tightly shut, surrounded by scattered women's clothes and several small booklets that looked like certificates, causing his brain to momentarily feel numb and swollen. Ethan stepped back with a slight headache, only to realize that he seemed to have stepped on something. Frowning, he looked down, and a strange expression crossed his handsome face.
What he had stepped on was a black bra, and it was obviously the property of the unconscious woman.
