A Traffic Butterfly

Chapter 10- Aranya rested her back on the seat. The sound of horns of vehicles in the traffic caused her headache. She closed her eyes and again was immersed in another flashback which happened similar to her current situation. A day knocked her life with great surprise, The smartphone was flashed with 11 missed calls and still vibrated to make the number 12th with a name hanging as, Cassata. The last vibration sound of the mobile phone reached the ears to make her awake from her dream world and thin nail-painted fingers moved towards her face to remove the sleep mask to reveal the beauty of the face Aranya. The other hand Aranya's hand reached out to grab her mobile phone and the slowly opened eyes widened in shock at the number of missed calls from her friend, Cassata. The brown eyes of Aranya opened widely in shock upon the time displayed in her digital clock which was placed on the side table of her bed. “Oh my God! I’m doomed” soft light-shaded lips were crushed sharply by her teeth and she gave a blow to her head with her hand. “Wake up, Aranya... today is an important day in my life. I must hurry” – when Aranya was busy talking to herself, the mobile phone again flashed and vibrated for the 13th time, “Oh Cassata, why did you call me this much time” She picked up her phone and her brown eyes contracted to their core upon viewing the caller name, this time not with the name Cassata but the phone displayed with the name MR. AMBER EYES. Soon her hands became slippery and her mobile phone was flown in the air by her reflexive action of panic. She extended her trembling hands to pick up the call and her thumb finger slid on the screen to accept the call with a great effort like she was aiming an arrow with a bow. As soon as the call was accepted, a hoarse manly voice was heard out loud and echoed in the walls of her room, before she could place the mobile on her ears, “You got one thousand seconds to be here” and the call was ended. “Uh… 1000 seconds? How will I keep track of counting…? Oh my god… Archangel Uriel! Show mercy on me. Make any butterfly flap its wings to slow down time.”- she lamented. The brown eyes rolled again and she looked at the screen of the phone to calculate how much time was left for her survival. It was 8.44 am and she was a little happy inside that she could live fifteen more minutes to enjoy her life. Yet her life is at risk if she doesn’t arrive at her office on time 9 o'clock. Only God knows what unique punishment she will get from her boss. She threw the blanket away and rushed to the bathroom to do her work, returned in five minutes, inserted her fair-skinned body in the cloth she seized, grabbed her purple coloured handbag along with a blue file and CD drive, and barely combed her hair, and left her room in the shaggy apartment. When she was about to close the room, she took a glance at her room. It was perfectly ruined by her like her room was rummaged by mafia or CBI agent. She thought, “If I ever existed to see the moon today, I would clean my room spick and span.” – closed the door, locked it and her hands were busy wrapping her legs with black glossy ankle strap high heels. Aranya walked out of her room to reach the elevator, which was fully crowded by not letting her in. She decided to use the stairs by jumping, leaping to reach the road. She felt a little difficulty in doing such athletics in her high heels. But she managed not to fall on the road to make everyone laugh at her. The second's hand in her watch was ticking indeed fast. When she was about to reach the bus station, her destined bus just passed her, making her day even worse. “Oh, no-no-no. Not today! I don’t want to die young. Mr Wolf would eat me alive” saying these words; she decided to catch the bus by running behind it. She crossed her handbag on her shoulders to catch the bus which could be her only lifesaver. On her run, she thought to herself, “Archangel Uriel sends me some help. I really can’t make it. If I gonna be late today, Mr Amber Eyes will kill me with his bare hands. Suck with the alarm. Errrr.” All the living beings on the earth could witness her stamina of running on high heels and even laugh at her foolishness. But, Aranya did not mind any, continued to perform her action scene by getting into the bus like her life was dependent on the run to catch the bus. All the action sequences of her were seized for a moment when a siren of a white vehicle named an Ambulance reached her ears. The sudden panic and tremble caught on her nerves and she was blanked in her vision. Aranya placed her hands on her ears to stop the piercing sound to enter her which make her heart skip a beat. One of the taxis blew the sound horn to awaken from her miserable state; the horn sound was blown which was soon accompanied by a chorus of horn sounds. When Aranya opened her tear-filled brown eyes, she could see the empty road with no trace of the bus. She quickly turned her head to realize the fact that she was blocking the entire traffic, the road before she was empty while the road behind her was fully occupied, she hardly felt her legs and moved to the corner of the road and stand still doesn’t have any clue what she was just doing now. A passengerless taxi driver stopped his taxi just to yell at her by lowering his window glass, “Hey you… do you think you are walking on the rally of the fashion show… you are flying like a butterfly in the middle of the traffic…” The washed-out mind of Aranya couldn’t observe those words; she was frowned her eyebrows and indeed tried to lend him, her ears. The crescent-shaped earring-worn ears of Aranya were blocked and she struggled to figure out what was just happening before. The frustrated taxi driver ragged, “Are you deaf… Can you hear me, for god's sake?” – He mumbled while his leg released the pressure on the clutch and his hands were busy changing the gear. The taxi moved away from her. Aranya stood still and gained consciousness when her mobile rang screening the name of Cassata and unknowingly she attends and doesn’t know what to speak. Everything was viewed by the taxi driver in his side mirror and reversed his taxi to reach her. Aranya was puzzled to see the same taxi and thought that he was going to yell again. The taxi driver asked her by lowering his window, “So… you can speak.” Aranya replied by having a little walk towards her destination, “Yes, I can speak…. Do you have any problem with my speech ability?” The taxi driver too moved his taxi parallel to her and asked, “Hey, need a ride?” The excellent opportunity knocked her through the taxi driver to reach her destination in time. She readily accepted his offer. “Yes, Please” by saying to the taxi driver, she grabbed onto the back seat and thanking Archangel Uriel for sending the taxi on time. The taxi driver in his white uniform asked her, “About where, Miss? Share your destination” Aranya rummaged for her phone and shared the office location with the taxi driver and asked him, “Can you please hurry up with your maximum speed? I got only seven minutes.” The taxi driver looked at her through the front mirror in a weird way and replied, “Looks like you are running out of time, hmm? That’s why you performed such a ramp walk in the road. Shortcuts will do, take 5 minutes” The mobile phone was again shouted to scare her, it was her friend Cassata, she soon picked up the call and the person on the other end yelled at her, “Where the hell are you…? Why didn’t you speak? Why didn’t you pick up my calls? Here, Boss is driving everyone mad…. Speak up? Aranya replied to her friend, “Hey Cassata, cool down babe. I am on my way.” Cassata asked her, “Did boss contact you?” She replied in haste, “Yes, Cassata. He gave me 1000 seconds to live on this planet. Uhmm, how is the weather there?” Cassata explained intensely, “Weather here is terrific. Boss is scorching everyone with his eyes. Come soon” “Don’t worry, I…” A sudden pressure on the brake made by the taxi leads her to hit the backside of the driver's seat. She dropped everything she was holding including the blue file and the mobile phone was slipped from her hands, “Ouch… Watch out while you drive”-she told the taxi driver while rubbing her forehead. Cassata was still online and asked her to reply, “Hey, what happened? Hello, hello…” The taxi driver turned to look at her, “Sorry Miss. I could not make it. You have to be on your own.” Aranya was bewitched to hear those words from him, just now she thought the taxi driver was the reincarnation of her archangel but it turned out to be a devil, “What the hell? Why now? What’s stopping you?” The taxi driver replied by pointing outside, “There is a block on the way...” “Who the hell is blocking my way to live”-she peeped out the window and the sight gave her a sudden blow on her head. A traffic jam! “Damn it… Looks like Uriel flew away?” Aranya grabbed all the papers carefully and sealed the blue file with a zipper and took her smartphone and decided to depend on her legs, in a rush she forgets to take the CD drive which contained the important documents. She moves out of the taxi by closing the door behind her with frustration. The taxi driver asked to transfer the fare for her ride. But she denied, “I don’t approach you first. You chased and forced me to enter your taxi. I just used the opportunity” The taxi driver was tense hearing her, “Playing smart, honey? But I rode you this far, and you have to pay my charges.” The reply from Aranya blew the taxi driver, “I will sue you for k********g me by taking too many shortcuts while the government provided a direct route to my destination…” The taxi driver sighed, “It’s my bad day. Heaven curses me for helping you. Get lost, you b***h” Aranya was tense about hearing that word and she climbed over the taxi’s front body as the traffic jam didn’t even leave some space for her to walk. The taxi driver shouted at her, “Hey get down from there… Are you crazy?” She replied by sitting on one knee on the front body of the car facing the taxi driver and talking through the glass by tilting her head to the side, “Kind of. Wanna join?” The taxi driver was indeed ferocious by her attitude, “Get lost from my sight, you f***king b***h.” “Even if you wish to, I won’t be staying here. I have got a job to do” – Aranya jumped from the front of the car and made her way to reach her office in time. “If you don’t hurry up, this will be your last day, you traffic butterfly” – the taxi driver mocked her. *****
