It started with arranged marriage

Chapter 19

As soon as the news broke out I got a lot of congratulation calls from my business associate. I was expecting some actions from Sophia. As I expected, I got a call from her and shortly afterwards she showed up to my office. “Eric, I saw the news, is it really true that you are going to marry next month,” she said. “Tell me it’s just a rumor,” she said while holding my arm. 

I removed her hand from my arm and told her “what makes you think it’s a rumor? I told you last time too”. “But you said you love me and why are you marrying that girl,” she said, standing really close to me. I knew she was trying to use her old tricks again on me. “I used to love you but not anymore. Now I want you to leave my office,” I said while looking away from her. “But Eric, babe, I still love you. If you cancel the wedding, I’ll come back to you,” she said, hugging me from the back. 

I tried to break her hug and walked to my desk. “Look! Don’t want to delusion by yourself Sophia, there’s nothing left between you and me. I’m getting married next month and also I wish you the best for your new life with your current boyfriend too,” I said right in front of her face without showing any mercy. She deserved it, and I knew she would be tricking me with her old tricks too, that she loved me more than anyone, blahh blahh blahh, 

She got mad and angry that I wasn’t taking it easy on her. I wasn’t like that before, everytime when she broke up with me and wanted to come back to me, I always accepted her back. I always forgave her but this time I won’t do it and fell in her trap again. “Babe, I know you are lying,” she said while trying to kiss me. I pushed her away and phoned the secretary office,  “Jimmy, can you send someone to my office?”. 

Jimmy sent my PA to the office shortly after I called him. “Show the guest to the entrance,” I told my PA. “look! Eric I’ll not give up easily,” she said and stormed out of my office. After she went back I was so satisfied about the thing that just happened. That was exactly like I expected. The moment after she left my office, I got a phone call from mom. What great timing!

“Hey! Mom,” I said. 

“Hello, dear, how’s your day?” she asked and her voice tone sounded so lively. Look like something good happened to her. 

“Like usual, mom, busy,” I replied to her. 

“Eric, do you have any plans for this friday evening?” she asked. 

“No mom, why? Do you need me on friday evening?” I asked her. 

“Can you drop by later on? Your dad and I have something to discuss with you?” she said. 

“Sure mom,”

“Thanks honey, then see you later,” mom said.

“See you later mom,” then we ended our call. 

After the call ended, I went back to my work. I have been trying to finish all the project and business deals by next week. Mom wanted me to clear all my schedule from the end of this month till we finished the wedding. Due to mom order, I have been busy almost the whole time. All my employees have clock out for today, Jimmy and I were the only two people left in the office building working till late. 

“Jimmy, let’s stop here for today,” I said, closing all the files. “Thanks again for working late with me, I really appreciate your help,” I said, walking together to the parking lot while complimenting him. 

“Don’t worry son, it’s my job. Drive safe and say hello to your parents too,” he said, walking toward his car. 

“Ok, see you tomorrow,” I said while waving my hand to him. 

I hopped into my car and started the car engine, drove straight to my parents house. When I reached my parents house, it was already past seven. I was super tired and hungry at the same time. When I went into the house, mom and dad were watching TV in the living room. 

“Hey!” I greeted both of them and gave them a hug. 

“You look so tired honey, is everything ok at the company,” mom asked me full of worriedness. 

“Nothing happened at the company, I’m just trying to finish all the ogning projects before the wedding as per your command,” I said, dumping my whole body on the sofa. Mom just gave a smile. 

“Do we have something to eat at home, I’m starving,” I said while rubbing my stomach. 

“I’ll make something for you,” she said. Then she went to the kitchen and made something for me.  

Me and dad were left alone in the living room. Me and my dad, our relationship was not as close as mom. Mostly we just talked about work, business, politics and weather. It was a comfortable relationship, he always taught me about business and always supported me. 

“By the way dad, Jimmy says hello to you,” I said. 

“Oh really! How is he doing?” he asked me lively. Jimmy was his secretary before I resigned and they were still kept in tough. They were also almost the same age and became good friends. Since then Jimmy has been a close friend to our family.

“Good, he’s been working late with me these days,” I said. We were chatting in the living room while mom was making dinner for me. 

“Eric, food is ready,” mom called from the kitchen. Me and dad were going to the dining hall. As soon as I sat down on the dining table, I started digging into the food. Mom’s food was always delicious. 

“Thanks for the food mom,” I said after I finished the food. 

“Honey, we called you today because we want to discuss you about the house and make a public announcement,” mom said. 

“Public announcement?” I asked. 

“We want to make a public announcement about the wedding this friday at the Collin foundation annual fundraiser,” dad said. I was confused, why they wanted to make a public announcement. The news has already been in the media and it was already public. Why bother to make it again. But I was too tired to ask the reason and already decided to follow mom's plan so I just agreed on everything mom said. 

“I’m ok. Mom, what do you mean about a house,” I asked mom.

“Oh! That! We want to buy a house for you and Lily as a wedding present. Can you take Lily to see the house,” mom said and continued  “Here is the house list and address that me and your dad selected for you. Go and see by tomorrow, I already called the real estate agent.” 

“Ok mom, I’ll arrange it. I’m going back now, see you later. Love you both,” I said, walking to the front door.
