“YOU HAVE BEEN quite the topic lately.”
My jaw immediately clenched by itself when I heard the tale-telling voice of Kaden Darkthorn. Judging from his voice, he was standing right behind me. But I didn’t want to think about him right now. Being ignored made him step forward. He stopped next to me, breathing in all the fresh air I needed.
“The palace seems to like the feud between the first and second Queens.”
“Or they’re just very excited to have something to talk about,” he added. “The palace does look kind of boring. What with the runaway villain and whatnot. It’s been a while since we have this kind of quiet.”
“You shouldn’t be here,” I said after a while.
“Why?”
“We can’t be seen together.”
“Again, why?”
“Did you not hear the Queen? She accused us. She thought we had something
