MY WORLD tilted on its axis. I didn’t know how to approach the Queen with her question. It was rather insulting on her part, but it was understandable, on her part, too. It was just to the point. She hit the nail on that question, sort of like she knew the condition I was in. It was as if she knew that I was stuck in between being the King’s wife and the Prince’s mate.
The air grew quiet. I didn’t know what to say because everyone was just as quiet. The Queen scoffed at our lack of answers, turning her body around so she could face me even though Kaden was still standing like a silent guardian. She ripped open a new wound when she stared and said, “Or did you want the Prince instead of the King?”
It was hard to hear someone say that, especially when they didn’t know how true it was.
