The Heir The crowd thinned as we galloped past the government buildings, and we crossed into Diamond quadrant without stopping. The curtains were closed, so all I saw were glimpses: black brick buildings, silver-wood siding, white-painted wrought iron lamp-posts. Our outriders called out, “Make way for the Court,” and carriages pulled aside to let us pass. Those on the sidewalks glanced up as if this happened every day, going on with their discussions, purchases, and promenades.
