Chapter 16. Arriving at the hospital

1911 Words
Dylan left his children's school and went to the private hospital to see Jessica. Though he didn't want to see Jessica again, she was still his wife, and he had to know how she was faring. Dylan arrived at the hospital parking lot, and at the same time, Rex also arrived in his car. The bodyguards stood aside as Rex stepped down from his black SUV, and he was wearing a black suit too. Rex was going to his company that morning when he decided to visit Jessica in the hospital again. Though Rex had called Jessica's phone line, the phone call wasn't connecting, and he decided to visit Jessica in the hospital by himself. Rex and Dylan gazed at each other in the parking lot, as Dylan wanted to walk away without greeting Rex at the hospital car park. Rex harrumph: “How rude of my in-law to see me in the morning and pretend like we are strangers? Has it gotten to that extent, Mr. Dylan?” Dylan paused and finally looked back at Rex. He could feel the other families' gazes on him, who were also arriving at the hospital parking lot. Dylan didn't want Rex to create a scene there, which is why he wanted to leave the parking lot immediately when he saw Rex arrive, but Rex still called him back. “Good morning,” Dylan finally muttered as he met Rex glare. Rex walked up to meet Dylan, as they were the same height, and he said, “Even if you don't want to marry my lovely sister again, Dylan, that doesn't mean that we are now enemies. You are not the only man out there who wants my sister. Even as Jessica has given birth for you, that hasn't lessened her bride price or meant that we cannot give her out to another man. It just saddened me that Jessica is still in love with you, and I don't understand why she cannot be bold enough to dump you too.” Dylan didn't respond to Rex. He knew that Rex was the quiet type of guy, and he heard Rex speak too much this time. Dylan just had to keep quiet, as he hadn't recovered from the previous blows and punches that Remy gave him the previous day. “Anyway, I think that you're here to also see Jessica. Shall we go upstairs now? What did the doctor say to you that was wrong with my baby sister? I hope that you haven't infected Jessica with any disease by cheating on her too." Dylan still didn't speak a word as he heard Rex ask him a question. He adjusted his suit as he exhaled and walked into the private hospital lobby with Rex, and the two men finally went up to the private ward room where Jessica was inside. The nurse had finished attending to Jessica, as it was not yet time for the doctors to go to their ward round to visit all their patients. Jessica sat on the bed alone as she just finished eating her breakfast, and she worried about her two kids. She forgot to ask Dylan to help her bring her phone. Jessica wondered who was the new woman in her husband's life, and as the hospital door finally pushed open, she saw Rex and Dylan both walk into the ward, while Dylan had a serious frown on his face. Rex smiled and walked up to meet her on the bed. Dylan stood aside and watched Rex, as he disliked Jessica's brothers too. Even though he had married Jessica, her two brothers still didn't like him, and they never honored any invitation that he sent to them either. Except Jessica personally invited them. “How are you doing this morning, baby sister?” Rex asked as he stared at Jessica's face sweetly and subtly after hugging her on the bed. Rex stood beside the bed, and he could see Jessica was rather staring at Dylan with longing, and she replied, “I am fine, brother. "Good morning, sweetheart." Jessica greeted Dylan, but Rex frowned, as he didn't like how Jessica had to call Dylan sweetheart. He knew that Dylan was the reason his younger sister was in the hospital bed. “Hmm, I can see that you're fine. I came here to see you personally. Mom was asking of you, and she complained that you are not picking up your calls,” Rex said as he continued to watch Jessica's face. Jessica responded, “I am not with my phone." She was sad that Dylan didn't respond to her greeting. Rex looked back at Dylan, who stood silently waiting for Rex to be through with Jessica first and for Rex to leave the ward. Rex took out a small phone that had a SIM card inside it, and he gave the phone to Jessica and said, “Here, use this. So it can be easy for me to call you until you have finally gone home and gotten your phone. Let me call Mom so that you can speak with her. You know that Remy's wedding is next weekend, right?” “I know, Remy invited me too,” Jessica said as she accepted the small phone from Rex's hand, and Rex finally called their mother on the phone call. "Hello, mummy,” Jessica spoke, as she tried not to sound sad. “Jessica, Where did you keep your phone? I have been calling you, and you ain't responding.” Mrs. Anaya asked worriedly. “Mom, I am not at home, as I went to the hospital for a check-up,” Jessica replied, and her mother sighed. “Okay, I hope you're truly fine. How about Caleb and Nina? I hope they're fine.” Mrs. Anaya asked, and Jessica responded, “Yes, Mom, they're all fine.” “And your husband?” Mrs. Anaya asked again, and she heard Jessica sigh before she replied, "Good mom. Dylan is here too.” Jessica looked at Dylan's face, where he stood silently. And Dylan stared at his wristwatch, as he hadn't expected to spend so much time in the private hospital with Jessica. He only came to check up on her, but he had to wait for her brother to see her first. Dylan finally spoke to Jessica: "I have to be on my way now, as I have some business partners to meet with.” Jessica was still on the phone call with her mother, and she couldn't ask Dylan to wait. She watched him walk away, and after her phone call with her mother ended, Jessica sighed and kept the phone down. Rex spoke to her, "You don't have to worry too much, sis. We told you then that you cannot use money to buy love.” “But Dylan loved me before. I just don't know who the slim woman is that he's seeing now.” Jessica looked away sadly from her elder brother, and he sighed and stared out through the hospital ward window that was opened. Rex looked back at Jessica and said, “Whoever he's seeing is his business, but you should stop worrying about him and take care of your health. Have you heard from the doctors what is wrong with you?” Jessica sadly nodded her head and replied, “Yes, Dylan said that the doctor told him I'm pregnant.” “Wow!” Rex gasped, and he smiled and said, “And he's cheating on you after getting you pregnant again.” Jessica shook her head and replied, "Dylan said he's not the one responsible for my pregnancy. Can you imagine? He's accusing me of cheating.” “Hahaha” Rex laughed out, and he tried to stop himself from laughing hard, and he apologized, “Forgive me, sister, but what has come over Dylan? I think he might have been possessed by someone, as this is no ordinary.” “I am thinking the same too. How can Dylan just change overnight? I need to see my pastor and speak to her about this. I have never cheated on Dylan, and yet he told me that he was not the one who got me pregnant. He also told me the last time that I would have no access to his body again. Can you imagine?" Rex smiled, and he gently tapped on his sister's shoulder and said, “I have to be on my way now, sister. Please take good care of yourself, and don't go on thinking too much about Dylan. If he still wants to divorce, that's not the end of life, as there are still many other men out there who will cherish you.” “But I'm already married and not single, Rex. No single guy would want me, except another woman's husband or a divorced man, too." Jessica sobbed, and Rex sighed. “You're right, but it's better than killing yourself because of Dylan. So long as the new man loves you and cherishes you, that should be all that matters." "No, Rex, I cannot divorce my husband. I love Dylan; I love him very much.” Jessica started crying again as her pretty yellow face turned red. Just then, the nurse and doctor, going on ward rounds, knocked and walked into Jessica's private ward to see her. They looked from Rex to Jessica, who was crying on the bed, and Jessica sniffed and used her gown to wipe her nose. “Is everything alright, Mrs. Robinson?” The male doctor named Doctor Mark Jude asked. “Yes, Doctor,” Jessica replied as she forced a smile. The doctor said, “Okay, we came to check on you. Are you free now?” Jessica looked at Rex, and he said, "That's fine, sister; I have to be on my way now.” "Okay,” Jessica replied, and she watched Rex finally exit the ward room. After the doctor finished checking on Jessica, she lay on the bed and thought about her life for a while. Soon, Jessica fell asleep after thinking too much. ---- Dylan arrived at DY Mobile Company. He parked his car in the parking lot and went into his company. He remembered that he heard Rex mention Remy was getting married soon, and he wasn't even aware of the upcoming wedding. He sighed and went into the lobby. The first floor was full of many customers, and Dylan made his way to the third floor, where his private office is. Soon, Bright knocked and walked into Dylan's office. “Boss, You ordered that I should get a car driver for you,” Bright said as he walked closer to Dylan's desk, while Dylan settled on his office seat. “Yes, I remember telling you that. So have you gotten the new driver yet and tested him to know how he can drive?” Dylan asked as he finally looked at Bright. Bright stood in front of Dylan's office desk and replied, "Yes, boss, but I haven't yet sent him to your home.” “Okay, tomorrow is Saturday, and that reminds me. How about the launch ceremony of our new product? Is it still going to take place tomorrow? Or is it too late to extend that ceremony?" “We cannot extend it now, boss. A lot of guests had already arrived in our state ahead of the launching ceremony tomorrow," Bright said.
