Me and Priscilla followed Dr Andrews down the hall as we passed several rooms and patients. Waiting for the man to stop and give us directions. We knew better than to question the man. Out of nowhere, the man stopped, and I had to pull Priscilla back or she would have crushed against the doctor's back in the middle of the hallway. The doctor took off his glasses as he started to read in one of his files. Turning to the right to look inside a room.
“Garcia, inside, is a pregnant she-wolf whose water has been broken. I want you to go in and see how far she is. If she is fully dilated, you can contact Dr Stevens, who is the she-wolf’s OBGYN. You can stay with the family until the pup is born." Priscilla’s eyes sparkled as she smiled wide. I knew she wanted to become a midwife someday, so this was her golden opportunity.
“Thank you sir, I will not let you down.” She smiled at the doctor before she walked inside of the room. To which Dr Andrews started to walk again, with me on his tail.
“Miss Davis, are you up for a challenge?” I frowned as I looked at the doctor’s backside of his head as he kept walking through the hallway.
“Sure, Dr Andrews.” I nodded, hoping my voice wouldn’t sound shaky. The man gave me anxiety when I was alone with him. Dr Andrews stopped to look at me.
“Miss Davis, I know how much time you spend inside these walls, and I know how much you want this. This is a golden opportunity for you. I hope I don’t have to emphasize the importance to always use your brain and to not blow this up. Do you understand?” My frown grew deeper inside of my forehead as Dr Andrews looked at me, I hadn’t screwed up once since the day I started here. The man knew that. What in the world could be so important that he needed to say this to me again?
“No sir, I will not screw this up, you have my word.” Dr Andrews seemed to study my face for a few seconds before he made up his mind and nodded his head.
“Very well, miss Davis, then follow me. This patient is at the end of this hallway.” I nodded as I kept following the doctor. Still thinking to myself why the man needed to crawl under my skin. Once we made it to the end of the hall, the doctor placed his glasses on the tip of his nose as he cleared his throat and stepped inside the room. I followed him inside, seeing that a man was lying in the bed, which obviously made him the patient. I had to blink my eyes a few times, the man was gorgeous. He had spiky brown hair and blue eyes which were booming with playfulness. A grin spread over his face as he showed his perfect white teeth to the doctor, who walked over to his bed and reached out his hand, shaking that of the patient. His eyes shifted towards me and his grin grew a bit bigger.
“ OK Miss Davis, meet Aiden. Aiden has Viral cardiomyopathy. Do you know what that means?” I swallowed as I nodded and looked at the doctor.
“Yes sir, Coronary artery disease involves the reduction of blood flow to the heart muscle, due to build-up of plaque in the arteries of the heart.” I looked at the patient, seeing he was still grinning at me.
Holy Jesus, he is so handsome!
“Ok very good Miss Davis, what are the signs and symptoms of Aiden’s disease?” Dr Andrews hummed as his eyes were scanning over the papers he was still holding on to in his hands.
“Uhm…” I had to think deeply, and the fact that handsommy on the bed was looking all sorts of cute at me, was not helping me to concentrate at all.
“Chest pain, abnormal heart rhythms, shortness of breath, fatigue,…” Dr Andrews hummed as he nodded his head, agreeing with me. “And what happens if this disease is severe?” I swallowed again, feeling my throat was like a desert, feeling handsommy’s eyes glued on me.
“His heart will shut down.” I looked down at the man, who didn’t seem to be bothered at all when I said this. He just kept grinning at me non-stop.
Is something wrong with him?
Oh Goddess,
Do I have something between my teeth or in my hair?
I gasped for air as Dr Andrews closed the file. To which I quickly ran my fingers through my hair, feeling that it was still OK.
“ OK, great miss Davis. So summarized, Aiden is here to get a new heart. He will need to have a lot of tests, so we can find him a heart that his body will not reject. Therefore, Aiden will be staying with us for a while.” I nodded my head as I looked at handsommy with the name Aiden, who was still looking up at me and paying no attention to the doctor at all. Still showing off his perfect white teeth. He looked away from me as he cleared his throat and looked at Dr Andrews, finally!
“Ok doc, so, is it my turn to talk now?” Dr Andrews frowned as he looked down at the patient, handsommy, the most beautiful patient I had ever seen in my life. I swallowed again.
Shit,
I need a drink!
Dr Andrews took off his glasses to look at Aiden.
“Sure son, you have any questions for us?” Aiden nodded his head as his grin grew wider again.
“Actually, I do.” He spoke as he turned his head again and looked back up at me.
“My horoscope is a Taurus, my hobbies are swimming, eating good food and watching a decent movie, how about yours?” I opened my mouth, taken aback by what handsommy had just said to me.
Is he flirting with me?
Seriously?
Dr Andrews rolled his eyes and sighed hard.
“Mr Hyle, please take this seriously, if you don’t get a heart, you don’t get to live.” But handsommy just kept grinning at me, making me look at Dr Andrews in shock.
“Mr Hyle?” I asked, as I looked back down at the hunk lying in the hospital bed in front of me.
“Oh yeah.” Aiden smirked as his eyes never left mine.
“My father is the Alpha, I’m the next one in line to become the leader of this pack. At least, if I live long enough to see that happen.”
My mouth dropped open, I closed it to only feel it falling open again.
What the hell is wrong with me?
Aiden smiled wide as he looked at Dr Andrews.
“I like her, I want to keep her.” Dr Andrews gave a small smile, probably the first smile I had seen in the two months since I started working in the hospital.
“Then you are in luck, Aiden, Elizabeth will be your nurse from now on.” Aiden turned back to me, his eyes sparkling with playfulness.
“So, I guess I will be seeing you around then?”
