Ahrein blinked not believing what had just happened. There was no way he'd been teleported back to his office without his consent by that.... Who was he and how could he do that? He'd racked his brains for any possible clues that would lead him to that man's identity but came up empty. He'd never met him before and what was even more surprising was that he couldn't see who he really was. Normally when gods came down to earth they used human bodies. However another god could tell just by looking at them. There was a certain halo around them which every deity possessed. That man, Raye was it? Had been able to recognize him, whereas Ahrein hadn't gotten anything. If he hadn't been sent back to his office, he would have believed the guy was a human.
Just like any other society there were also ranks in heaven. The longer a deity lived the more powerful he was. The only God who had been alive longer than him was the high god. Even the elders were below when it came to powers. Very few gods had the ability to send others to a different location. Had he just been reduced to a lowly god? By that unknown piece of s**t?
Then there was that nosy woman. He couldn't make out why she was being protected by such a powerful being despite being an airhead. He would have erased her memory the previous day but because of the barrier he couldn't. The fact that she had actually snapped her fingers back at him was kind of cute... Ahrein stopped and frowned at that thought. Since when did he think of any human or anyone -including other gods- as cute? The only time he had that thought was when Gerena had approached him and asked if he wanted to play with her. She hadn't been a high Goddess then so didn't know who he was. And that was years ago. Not in earth but heaven's time. Humans hadn't even evolved back then.
Putting that disturbing thought aside he asked his servant "Where did you say those two were from?"
Nisin shifted from one foot to the other "I couldn't find out where they are from"
"Then how did you know they were running from the police?"
"I tried to go through that woman's memories since I thought she was a mortal. That was the only thing I found out before she blocked me"
"And why am I finding out about this now?"
"My Lord, I was going to tell you about it but you cut me off yesterday"
"Okay, then explain the bowing. Why would you do that?"
"I have no idea. I don't remember getting out of my chair"
"Dismissed" with a flick of his wrist, Nisin was out of his office. He knew why his servant had done that. It was all that Raye's doing. The fact that neither of them had seen him for a whole ten minutes pissed him off. What was he? Why was his power so immense? Most importantly, what was his relationship with that woman? There was no way they were siblings. It had to be something else. He realized that if he wanted to know who they were, his best bet was to find out from the woman. Since he couldn't approach her again without drawing suspicion, he called Rena.
The problem with her was that she had no protection against him whatsoever. To be able to manipulate a human, gods needed their trust first. It was easier that way but also prevented them from turning their brains into mush. Another thing he admired about them. If someone didn't want you in their head then you couldn't get in. Forcing your way in could backfire on you. In Rena's case, she was in love with him which meant he didn't even have to try. She could be his puppet if he desired. But Ahrein wasn't interested in having puppets. As he was manipulating Rena, he decided that it was the last time. Any more and she wouldn't be mentally stable.
Her job was easy. All she had to do was walk into that coffee shop and strike a conversation with Reina. Maybe start with how similar their names were. Then she'd decide they were also alike and end up offering her a job at K cosmetics. If by any chance Reina happened to refuse, Rena would keep upping the salary amount until the other woman agreed. As for the kind of job Ahrein had in mind, he'd keep it to himself since he suspected neither of them would agree if they found out. While it was clear Rena would be jealous, no one knew what that nutcase Reina would do. He remembered her question about wishes coming true and wondered if it was her doing or her brother's. Was he missing something?
A god didn't protect a mortal without a good reason. Were they perhaps dating? It would be kind of sick if they were dating and she called him her brother. Besides, why would any sane god seek out a human when there were so many beautiful goddesses in heaven? The women on earth couldn't even begin to compare. So dating was out of the question. It had to be something else. The more he thought about it the more he didn't like the answer he came up with. For her to reside in that weak unworthy body was unacceptable. He wasn't in any way involved with her but the thought of it infuriated him. Then what would she do once she found out?
There was absolutely no way Gerena was Reina. And if she was, that would make Raye..... Well s**t. He should have known it was him.
------------------------
Rena looked around the coffee shop. It wasn't the kind of place she would normally frequent but it wasn't that bad. She'd grown up in an average family as an only child. Her parents had pampered her and people automatically liked her because she was pretty. Becoming the face of K cosmetics had been life changing. She'd gone from being the pretty girl to a goddess. Everyone referred to her that way that sometimes she forgot she wasn't really a goddess. Maybe it was the reason Kline didn't love her back. He had seen who she really was and knew she wasn't as perfect as people perceived her.
"Hi, would you like anything?" A waitress asked her. Rena looked up and was surprised by how beautiful she was. Her black hair was in a ponytail, leaving her round face uncovered. She could easily take her place as the K goddess.
"A cup of coffee please. Black, no sugar"
"Okay, I'll be right back" she said and really came back with her coffee "it's my first day here so I'm also surprised by how fast this was made. Apparently one of our barista is a huge and he claims to know all your likes and dislikes ready"
"I'm honored. Please tell him I said thank you"
"Enjoy your coffee"
She turned around to leave but Rena blurted out "I noticed how similar our names are. Mine is Rena"
"Wow, yeah. You're right. I'm Reina and without the 'I' they'd be the same"
"Did you know Reina means queen in Spanish?"
"My brother tells me that all the time. He's always saying how I should act dignified like my name or something like that"
"I know this might sound random but would you like to come and work with at K cosmetics? I noticed how pretty you are and how perfect you'd be as our newest ambassador"
"Me?"
"Yeah. Your face is fresh and you've got this innocence written all over it. I promise the pay is worth it and we can negotiate the amount before you sign the contract"
She really was innocent. Her face showed everything she was thinking about which was endearing "If I'm getting a higher salary then why not? Hold on, I'll just tell the manager I'm quitting then we'll talk some more"
Rena watched her rush towards what she believed was the manager's office. That was the thing with humans. They were gullible. If they knew just how short their lives were, they'd try to not get enticed by worldly materials. After all everything was fleeting. But then again it wasn't her problem. Her work there was done. Wasn't it? Recruiting Reina had been easy. Why Kline had gone to such lengths just to hire her was still a mystery. One she was going to solve soon.
