Mist’s P.O.V.

“Freaking bastards… they should rot in hell before he dies”, Christopher gritted his teeth while pacing back and forth in his office. I didn’t say a word but looked at him blankly. We worked hard to make that proposal and we were the most eligible candidates for that piece of land. Yet we couldn’t get that because of what Mr Mayor demanded from Kane. I was really glad that my bosses were respectful towards their female employees and there was no way that they would agree to anything like that. I was also angry but I couldn’t say anything here. I was only a small fly in front of Mr Mayor and he could make me disappear with a flick of his finger.

“You… you must be of her daughter’s age yet he lusted you”, Christopher said in a disgusting tone. I sighed aloud and looked at him helplessly. “Sir”, I called him but he didn’t listen to me. “Sir”, this time, I raised my voice and he stopped moving. “What?” he said in a calm tone while looking at me. “Calm down… there is nothing that you can do here. Both of us know how disgusting this world can be”, I tried to make him understand that it didn’t bother me anymore. In the past few years, I had encountered so many men who tried to put their hands on me for the sake of helping me. It’s not easy for a girl to fight against them all the time. I, though, never gave up and was still fighting against all the odds of my life.

“Mr Harris already has taken her stance on this case and we can do nothing now. I am really grateful to him for what he did for me”, I said with all my sincerity. Christopher sighed aloud and then came near to me. He sat down on the chair near me and put his hand under his chin while thinking something hard. “However”, I spoke after a while and paused. He looked at me questioningly this time. I smirked and then looked at my hand on the table. “ It is not like that we don’t know how to play dirty, right?” I tilted my head a little while looking at him innocently. He narrowed his eyes on me suspiciously.

“You got something on him?” he spoke in a low tone and I just chuckled and looked back at my hand on the table again. “Mist… he… (he immediately lowered his tone and straightened his back).. he is freaking mayor, for God Sake”, he almost yelled at me but in a hushed tone. “Exactly… he is freaking mayor”, I repeated his words while blinking innocently. “This is not my fault that he didn’t cover his track well”, I shrugged my shoulders while speaking in an innocent tone. He just looked at me while blinking hard and I once again smiled innocently.

“You sly fox…. You know how to get back, huh?” he remarked and I pouted maintaining my innocent look. He chuckled and banged the armrest of his chair. I might not be a match against Mr Mayor but it didn’t mean that my bosses couldn’t get back to him. He had power but my bosses had both power and wealth. “What is the use of me being your personal assistant if I don’t find a way to get what you want, huh?” I said in a calm tone and he smiled widely this time. “So what do we have here, huh?” he asked me while drumming his fingers on the armrest impatiently. I took a deep breath and then opened my laptop.

“According to the rumours that I heard about him, he is in an ambiguous relationship with his PA but”, I paused and he raised his brows while looking at me impatiently. “This story is only a cover to hide his relationship with someone else”, I told him still keeping the mystery, a mystery here. “For God Sake, Mist… stop making me anxious and spill the beans”, Christopher groaned in annoyance and I giggled. He was really an impatient man. I then moved the screen of my laptop towards him. “See and you will understand what I am telling you”, I said and he immediately took my laptop in his hands. At first, he looked confused but soon his eyes widened in shock. He looked up at me in shock and then looked at the screen again.

“He put his condition in front of us. Now, we can use his weakness as our leverage on him and get what should be ours”, I said in a cold tone and he smirked this time. “You are really evil. Do you know this?” he said with a sly smile on his lips and I just laughed while shaking my head. “No, I am not evil. It’s just I like to play fair”, I said and he laughed this time. “I am going to talk with Kane now. I am sure he will gladly use this information”, he said and stood up. “I am sending you everything by mail”, I told him and he nodded before going out. I mailed everything to Christopher and then went through his emails. I marked all those emails which he needed to see and answered a few of them on his behalf. As his assistant, it was my work to sort out everything for him.

I was going through the report that the admin and HR had sent to us when the door opened again. “How did you get this information?” Kane asked me while storming inside. I stood up and looked at him with a baffled expression. Christopher was also behind him and they both had serious expressions on their faces. Christopher closed the door behind him and stood up beside Kane. “I didn’t use any illegal method to get this information, Mr Harris”, I said in a calm tone after recomposing myself. “How?” he asked again in a restrained voice. It was clear that he was furious on something but I couldn’t get whether his anger was related to me or not.

I took a deep breath and then looked straight into his eyes. “When you were with Mr Mayor during the ball, I heard his other female PA talking with someone over the call. They were talking about some meeting later that night. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but his assistant talked about the transfer of some money too. I didn’t pay attention to her words but after Mr Stanton told me about what happened back then. I investigated his assistant and she had everything in her phone and her laptop that, if I guess right, she wants to use to blackmail him in the future”, I told him everything truthfully. “You said that you didn’t use any illegal method”, Kane raised his brows and I rubbed my temple.

“That woman is not his official employee”, I told him and this time he didn’t say anything but narrowed his eyes at me. “One more thing”, I said while looking at Christopher with a mischievous smile. “What?” Christopher asked me looking alert. I looked at Kane and he ushered me to continue what I wanted to say. “This woman has a little crush (I shrank my nose with a teasing expression) on Mr Stanton. We can gather more information that can be useful for us if”, I trailed and Mr Harris looked back at Christopher. “No… I will never serve as a pawn here”, Christopher immediately shrieked in horror and I pursed my lips into a thin line for suppressing my giggle.

“She is really a good catch”, I said with an innocent smile and both of them looked at me with disbelief. “You actually want to sacrifice me?” Christopher asked me with disbelief and I just shrugged my shoulders. “We don’t have to do anything like this if we use this opportunity wisely”, I said and looked at Mr Harris with a knowing look. “Mr Mayor is using his position to fulfil his nasty desires. That woman is helping him in keeping his extramarital affair a secret for money. We can use their weaknesses for our benefit. Coincidences can be created, right?” I said with a knowing hint that made Kane straighten the lines on his forehead.

"You stay away from this matter now. You know nothing about him. Let us handle this. That land is mine and now, with this information, I know what to do", Kane warned me in a cold tone and looked in Christopher's direction. He huffed but looked at us with a defeated expression. "Let Lucas handle this from here. You have already done your part and Mist", Kane asked me and paused, making me raise my brows. A smirk appeared on his lips. "Well done", he said with a smile on his lips and I just nodded with a smile.
