Chapter 57

I thought about it and was still confused, how could someone mysterious have my back? I thought, biting my lower lip. “I think you should forget about the man in black and focus on the culprit,” the detective muttered, disrupting my thoughts. I carefully listened to the recorder and soon recognized the description given by the thugs to be Charlotte, “Charlotte!” I let out with a clenched fist. “What did you say?” He inquired with a raised brow as he didn’t get what I had uttered. “That’s the name of the woman, she has been trying to cause havoc for in the past few weeks” “Are you sure about that?” He asked. I nodded reassuring him that she was the one. He let out a deep sigh and took the statement of what had transpired between me and Charlotte. “You can head back home, we will update you about the case” the detective asserted and handed me a card, I left afterwards and went back to the villa. I threw myself on the sofa and let out a groan. I relaxed on the sofa and closed my eyes taking in all that happened. “Beep!” My cell phone rang, snapping me out of my daze. “Hey, Aubrey,” I muttered. “How was the photo shoot? I’m just getting the van now” she inquired with curiosity. “Well, everything is settled. I believe that my secretary would be handling the others” I got up from the sofa, took my purse and strode up to my room. “That’s good! I can’t wait to have a successful sister. I’m so proud to have you my dear” she mumbled, I grinned and massaged my temple which was throbbing from a lot of thinking as I couldn’t quite put my hand to why Charlotte would want to burn down my store, this is truly unbelievable. I took her as my sister and she did not only end up sticking to my boyfriend but she wanted to burn down my store which I’m strategizing how to develop. I hissed as I couldn’t stand this betrayal, I felt hurt and used. “Hey! What was that for?” Aubrey called back to my mind. I'd thought that I was done with the call, I was so lost that I didn’t realize that Aubrey had spoken for a while. “Oh, it’s nothing. I’m tired! I just got back home” I mumbled attempting to hide my gloomy mood. Aubrey would only scold me if she finds out that Charlotte nearly burnt down my store. She sneered and informed me that she was in front of my villa. I widened my eyes and quickly ran downstairs. Ryan and Shadow who were sitting downstairs fixated their gaze on me wondering why I stormed out of the house, “this is why we need to send her away. I’m already tired of her showing up everywhere” Ryan asserted with a sullen face. “It’s just for some moments we will do that” Shadow muttered trying to calm Ryan. I stepped into the house with Aubrey who was busy checking out the house, “why are you here? You came unannounced. What if I wasn’t in the house?” I asked, feeling annoyed. I don’t want Aubrey to find out about this, she would take it too personally and would make it even harder for me, because she will also blame me for being lenient on Charlotte. “Hey! Can’t I visit my sister unaware?” She let out still glancing around the house. “Look, I’m about to shower and go to bed, why are you here?” I inquired with both hands on my waist. She smiled and abruptly brought two bottles of champagne, “I’m here to celebrate your near success” she winked at me and sat down on the couch. I rolled my eyes and sat opposite her, “I haven’t even succeeded, how are you sure that I’m going to succeed?” “Of course, I know that. We Wellington are always successful in whatever we do” she uttered with pride. I rolled my eyes again and took a long stride to the wine cabinet to get two wine glasses. I handed one to Aubrey and sat back on the couch. Aubrey uncorked the champagne and poured out the champagne into my glass and also poured it out to herself. “To the success of Rey Grandeur,” we clicked the glasses and gulped down the drink. Suddenly, Aubrey fidgeted while gazing around the house. “Hey! What’s the matter?” I inquired slowly as I patted her shoulder. “I feel strange, I think this house is weird.” She asserted nervously. I chuckled and told her nothing was wrong with the villa, “I believe you must be thinking that it’s creepy but that’s because it’s close to the sea and it’s far from other villas in this neighbourhood” she shrugged and slowly relaxed. We drank a few times and also chatted for a while before Aubrey stood up from the sofa and straightened her outfit. “I’ll be on my way Audrey, I’d love to sleep over, but I have an early morning shoot tomorrow. Be careful and stay safe” she added while gazing around the house. She halted and motioned me to move closer to her which I did, “I think someone is here staring at us” she whispered to me, which made me burst out laughing. “Come on, there is nothing like that” I let out feeling amused by what she had said. She sighed while shaking her head. “Well, I might be overthinking it, take care of yourself” she embraced me, I led Aubrey out of the house, bid her goodbye, and watched as she drove out of the neighbourhood with her red Ferrari. I sighed deeply and walked back into the house. “Growls” my stomach rumbles, I massaged my belly and recalled that I haven’t eaten the whole day.
