“It’s Andrew, my boyfriend” I responded, feeling tired. “What! You have and I’m not aware of it, gosh! Did you even take me as your friend?” I rolled my eyes at her exaggerated reaction. “Chill, how could you have known when you ditched me for almost eight years? Besides, we’re just meeting today after a long time and we haven’t gotten a chance to speak” she bit her lip and relaxed back on the sofa. “You’re right! I was overly excited for you that you finally got a man in your life” I shrugged and shoved the remarks aside. Right, I’m just one lucky girl, twenty-four years of my life Andrew was the only man that I have in my life, no other man dares to approach me even in high school. So, I was always in an awkward position each time my friends go on a date and I’m all alone. “I was lucky to find him, he is nice and good to me” I asserted, she beamed and moved towards me. She sat on the arm of the sofa, “promise that you will introduce your boyfriend to me” she blurted out sheepishly with a sparkle in her eyes.
“Hey! Chill. Of course, I’ll introduce you to him but he is busy with work now.” She nodded in approval. “So what’s up with the whole thing, why did you move out and decide to stay here when you can go back to San Francisco” I hissed and locked my eyes. “The story is long. But you’d know Aubrey, my twin sister? She is now an actress who is living off her own while fulfilling her dreams. That’s the kind of life I want for myself, you know what I wanted to do since childhood”
“Yes, I’d understand but staying alone and far away from families is not advisable. Although I left home, I’m regretting it now.” I chuckled, Charlotte would never be able to understand me as we’re from different classes and statuses. “This is the decision I’ve made. I'm not as lucky as you to be privileged to do anything you want. Now I’m going to give myself the privilege to live the life I want. I won’t lose my dream over an inheritance” she let out a deep, wondering if I was in my right senses, “this is what everyone wants but you’re throwing down the drains, gosh! You really had some nerves. I wished that I was in your shoes.” I rolled my eyes and stood up from the sofa.
“Enough of all this talks about me, tell me what has been going on with you?” I inquired while striding to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water.
“Well, my parents tried to hook me up with an older man from a higher status just to be recognized in society. I wasn’t going to ruin my life just for their selfish reason so I refused to be their pawn. At first, they started by comparing with one of the girls in our neighborhood. Which I have gotten used to when they realized that their tantrums ain’t getting to me they resulted to violence so I had to leave the house for them” my jaw dropped at what I just heard. How can aunt and uncle be so mean to their child? I felt so bad putting myself in her position, I turned to Charlotte who was sobbing and halted. Somehow it seems like a fake sob but I felt like she had no reason to fake a cry so I moved the thought off my mind and handed her a glass of chilled orange juice.
“Thanks, Audrey” she took the glass and gulped a little bit of the content.
“It’s nothing, this is also your home. You can stay as long as you want” I responded quickly to soothe her gloomy mood. It took quite a moment for her to be calm, I checked my cellphone to find out that it was already evening and it would soon be time for dinner, “come on Charlotte, it’s time to leave. Remember, I promised to treat you to dinner” she nodded tremendously while wiping her cheeks that I found no tears on, although he found it strange but I wasn’t going to meddle if she wasn’t going to tell what had happened, it can also be that I have seen it wrong. “I will order a ride, go up first, and get dressed. We will meet downstairs” I asserted and ambled towards my room. Charlotte seemed to have changed a lot and I can’t pin my finger on the aspect but I’d feel that something was odd about him. However, I kept shoving the thoughts aside without realizing that it was just a sign to be wary of her but I wasn’t the type to give up on people, she was my dear friend since childhood. I went into the washroom, had a quick bath, and wore a body hug sleeveless gown with black Chanel slippers. I brushed my hair down to my shoulder after drying it, applied a gloss, picked up my purse, and stepped out of the room. I met Charlotte downstairs who was also looking stunning in her white crop top and a pink flare skirt. “Wow, you look way hot!” I mumbled with a wink, she chuckled awkwardly and complimented me with “I’m not looking bad either”. In the middle of our conversation I got a notification that my ride had arrived, “the ride is here, let’s go”. We left for the elevator. Soon we were at the entrance of the building where the cab was waiting. “City Dolphins Restaurants” I uttered as we got into the cab, the cab driver accelerated the car and took off in the streets of Boston. It took a few minutes to reach our destination, “thanks mister” I asserted and made my p*****t. Charlotte stepped out of the cab with wide eyes, “this place looks really good, who would have thought that such a place exists in Boston?” She let out while glancing around the vicinity. “Let’s go in, else we’re going to be waiting with another set of people,” I explained as I made my way to the group of people who were being ushered into the restaurant.
