Chapter 9

At first, we ignored the call and continued with our thing. But the caller was insistent and continued calling just as Andrew was about to suck my earlobes. Although I wasn’t thinking of answering the call as I was engulfed by passion, Andrew seemed to be already pissed off. “f**k! What’s this damn thing all about?” He gritted his teeth. “It’s nothing, just continue,” I muttered in a shaky voice. He groaned and stepped away from my body. “Answer the damn call, Audrey, I can’t even concentrate with this Beeping Sound,” he said in an already irritated tone. I hissed, cursing under my breath. I walked down from the bed and moved to the bedside table, I grabbed my phone and checked the caller ID. It turned out to be an unknown caller, my face became gloomy when I realized that it was an unknown number that disrupted our good time. I was red with anger but decided to control myself so as not to look like a desperate or a horny girl. Apparently, I don’t answer an unsaved number but in this situation, I decided to answer it just to save face. “Hello” I mumbled in the calmest way I know. “Hey Audrey, it’s Charlotte” “What!” I asserted with a startled face could it be that I must have heard wrong? I thought as I ran my hand through my hair. “Hey! Are you there?” The caller continued speaking in a loud voice that snapped me out of my trance. “Yes, this is Audrey, who is this?” I obviously asked just to clear my doubt but it seems I wasn’t hearing things. It was Charlotte. “It’s me, Audrey, it’s Charlotte. How can you forget my voice so soon? I can’t believe this” “What? Charlotte! Omg, it’s been ages” I almost screamed down the building out of excitement. “Yes, it’s been a while and I’ve missed you” I chuckled, thinking that she missed me but never contacted me. She even changed her number when they left the country. “I know what you must be thinking but none of them are true. I never ditched you or thought of doing so, you know my parents. They cut me off from the outside world that was why I couldn’t speak with you” I sighed deeply recalling when we were in fourth grade, Charlotte's mother used to compare her with me and most of the rich kids in our neighborhood. Charlotte was not from a wealthy family who was known for their worth but they were living off well, Charlotte also got a scholarship in the same school I was attending with the help of my parents who was the major shareholder. Atlas, I didn’t know what happened, her parents just withdrew her from school and traveled to Australia. Since then she was just a mystery and just some part of my memories but I’d miss the time we spent together as best friends. I smiled, “I understand,” I said after a while. “How have you been? You must be a graduate by now and also taking over a prestigious spot in the Wellington group” she let out with an amazed tone. I snickered, ignored her findings, and inquired if they were back in town? Charlotte gave me a shocking response that I’d never have expected, “what do you mean that you ran away from home?” I became serious as I wondered if she might have sinned. “Come on Audrey, you don’t have to be startled and I didn’t do anything either. I was just tired of them pushing me around or taking me as a pawn” she explained bitterly. “This is too bad, how are you doing now, and what plans do you have?” “I don’t know Audrey, I just boarded a flight back to the states. I don’t have any idea what I’m doing or what I’ll do next. I’m just confused right now” I breathed heavily and looked back at Andrew who was fast asleep, I tiptoed out of the room so I wouldn’t wake him up. “Wait a moment, you mean that you made no plans before leaving Australia? Omg, are you out of your mind?” “I know, I was just mad, that's why I left without thinking. How about I come over to your place and stay for a few days?” She suggested. I massage my temple contemplating what she has said. I was literally confused as I just wanted to spend some time with Andrew without any further inconveniences but Charlotte is my childhood friend. I can't sit and just watch her roam around the streets, I guess I should just speak to Andrew about it. “Well, that isn’t a problem. Just call me once you arrive. You can lodge in any hotel. I'll come and pick you up tomorrow” I uttered and ended the call. I hissed and sat down on the sofa with both my hands on my head. “Hey” Andrew mumbled walking up to me. “Hey” I responded as I looked up at him, he kissed my forehead and sat down next to me. “Why are you here sulking, is something wrong?” He arched his brow. “Nothing really. It’s just Charlotte she left home without a plan. Now she wants to stay in my house for a while and you’re here, I don’t know what to do I’m just confused” “Hey, hey calm down. I can leave anytime. Just a moment” he walked back into the room and came down later with a key. “What’s this for?” I inquired curiously. “This was supposed to be a surprise but we didn’t even get a chance to converse. I rented an apartment here in Boston and I’ve gotten a job in a textile factory so I could always accompany you any time you want” I was stunned to stupor that I was just gawking at him with wide eyes.
