A rewarding smile hits me as I reread my acceptance letter into the Peace Corps. Martha, the lady I met at the career fair, has kept in touch with me all these months to help with my application and to keep me informed of preparations I need to make before my first tour. When first hearing about the almost 2.5 years away from home, I admit I was hesitant. But hearing more about the programs, the fact that it’s a rewarding job that comes with benefits… it just all excited me.
Mom supports my decision, although would rather me stay home, but she knows college wasn’t my go to choice right out of high school. At least this way, I’ll be earning some money while traveling as well, with my first tour being in Costa Rica!
