Chapter Nine - This night just got better!

1304 Words
Caleb   I was heading out to meet Nate and one of our other friends Ryan for our guys night. I was in a good mood. I have been for most of the week. I had text Scarlett yesterday, but I have yet to hear back from her. I was not overthinking it though, because I know the job that she does will keep her busy. She would reply when she has the time, I hope.    But right now, I was looking forward to going out for a few drinks, a couple of games of pool and good company.  I got to the bar first, so I ordered myself a pint and got the pool table set up. And moments after I got things ready Nate appeared and went straight to the bar to get a drink.    "You want a drink?" He shouted over to me.   "I've already got a pint, Nate, thanks though" I shouted back over.   I sat down to have a drink whilst waiting for him to come. It is good to have a pint and relax after the crazy day at work.    "Well today was a busy one," Nate said as he appeared over carrying a tray of pints and shots.   "What is that?" I asked him laughing, "I was just thinking that same thing, busy day," I added.   "Oh, this is only the start," Nate smirked, "We don't have work tomorrow, so we are making the most of it," He added.    I think tonight is going to be a crazy night—the sort of night I have not had for some time. Nate handed me a shot, grabbing one for himself. There was one for Ryan too, but he would be late, he always was. One pint, two shots and a game of pool later, which I won, and Ryan finally decides to join us.   "Took your time, mate?" I said, handing him a pint.   "You are on the next game with Caleb. We didn't see the point in waiting for you," Nate said, chuckling, "Always the last to turn up," He added, laughing harder.   "I know lads, my timing is terrible," Ryan laughed, taking a drink of his pint, "Let's do this, Caleb," He added smirking at me.   Everything just seemed to flow well from there on out. We were all having a great time, conversation flowing, lots of laughing, drinks and a fair few games of pool which I am winning overall.    I always had fun kicking their asses. I don't know why they insist on challenging me; it was still the same result. I kick both their asses even after all their smack talk. It was all in the name of fun, though. We decided to take a break from playing pool, sitting down, and the guys checking out the women around us. I swear those two are worse than teenage boys when it comes to women, both horny fuckers.    I wasn't interested, though. I was only interested in one person, Scarlett. At the thought of her, I decided to check my phone and the biggest smile appeared on my lips when I notice she has finally text back.    Scarlett:  Hello, I am sorry I took so long to reply. I hope you never thought that I was ignoring you on purpose X      "Hmmm, what brings that massive smile on your face Caleb?" Nate asked, looking at me with a raised brow.    "Ohh, it's nothing. I didn't even realise I was smiling," I said, knowing fine well that I had a massive grin on my face.    I just couldn't be bothered with them teasing me about talking to a girl. I pulled my attention away from him and back to my phone.    Caleb: Hi, Scarlett, it's nice to hear from you. No, I didn't think that I just figured you were maybe busy at work. How have you been? X   I'm buzzing that Scarlett has messaged me back. I need to take five minutes away from these guys so I can be happy without getting questioned. My friends were too nosy for their own good.    "I'll go get the next round in after I go to the bathroom," I said.    "Yeah, sure thing," Nate said smirking at me as I turned to walk away.    This will not be the last I hear of the smile on my face. I will tell them, eventually, maybe because they will not let it go. I have very persistent friends. I never went to the bathroom, as I said. I headed outside to get some air. By the time I got out, I had a text back.    Scarlett: I have been good, thank you. You? I am just out with some friends at the moment. X    Caleb: I am good thanks. You are? Me too! Where are you? Maybe we could meet, well if you want to anyway X    I waited a few minutes for her reply just taking in a nice cool, fresh air. I was enjoying my little bit of quiet time outside, but I know the lads will be waiting for the round of drinks, so I headed back inside. I stopped by the bar before going back to join them.     "Here are the drinks," I said, sitting the tray down, "When am I back on the table?" I smiled at them both.   I was trying my best to listen for my phone going, but it was hard with all the chatter and music in here, and I knew if I checked my phone regularly, I would get questioned. Maybe I shouldn't have suggested that we meet up or perhaps she is just busy just now and can't reply. I'm thinking into this too much.   "Right Caleb, you are up, let's see how well you play after a good few drinks", Ryan said laughing.   Little does he know, the more I drink, the better I get. I laughed and made my way over to set the balls up. It was time to kick some ass again.    ****   Three games of pool later, I was still in the lead. The guys decided enough was enough; they were terrible losers. I checked my phone yet nothing. I hope I was not to forward, and I have scared her away. Am I more interested in her than she is in me? I thought we had a mutual thing going on.   "Shall we move on to the next bar?" Ryan suggested.    "Yes, good idea," Nate said, "Things will be picking up more now since it is getting later in the night," He added.    Nate and Ryan turned to me, waiting for my answer. I nodded, smiling. We never did stay in the same place for an entire night.    "Yes, let's make moves like you said things would be picking up in other pubs", I said to them both smiling.   Maybe going somewhere with more atmosphere and distraction will help me to stop thinking about Scarlett and wondering why she isn't messaging me back.   We head down the street and go into a pub which has karaoke starting in the next hour. It was bound to be a good atmosphere here.    "Who's on the first round?" I ask them both as we stumble through the small door laughing, and that's when I see her.    I see the beautiful glow from her red hair, Scarlett is here. How have we ended up in the same place? I suppose we do live in a small town with not a lot of pubs so not surprising really that we would end up in the same place. Scarlett is too busy talking to her friends to notice us coming through the door.   "Is that who I think it is over the far end of the bar?" Nate asks, looking straight towards Scarlett. I know the question is directed towards me.   All I could do was nod. I was too distracted by her. She looks stunning, and her gorgeous long legs were on show since she was in shorts. I couldn't take my eyes away from her.    I think this night just got a whole lot better.
