Chapter 1

“AND?” River asked loudly. It was the day after and Wilder was laying on the couch pressing sack of ice onto his face. “What else you want me to say?” He said from under the ice, but it was all muffled. “You leave your date, step in, get beaten up by a human, and none of the girls sleep with you?” Carter said as he removed the ice from Wilder’s face. Thanks to his genetics, his face wasn’t ruined only a large scratch on his nose which he was planning to use as a ‘bad boy’ attribute to lure more girls in.    He sighed and laid back on the sofa, trying to avoid answering Carter’s question. Yes, he got involved and yes, he left his date, but if he didn’t he wouldn’t have a cool story to gloat about to his friends. (And yes, he was bummed by the absence of s*x but he was not going to admit that.)    Seeing that Wilder was in a mood and not going to answer their questions, boys turned their attention to other things. River sighed and kicked Wilder off the couch. “Get up, dickhead you can lie on your bed.” Wilder groaned and got up. His head hurt but his pride would hurt even more if he admitted it. River and Carter jumped on the sofa and turned on the game console. He looked at them, his friends, he knew Carter since he came out of the womb, he is of Gamma blood and uses it for all the wrong ways, just like Wilder himself who uses his charms and strong bloodline to get into places he shouldn’t.    But Wilder doesn’t care, all he needs is a drink, his friends and a loud party which will, in turn, lead him to girls. And we all know what happens after that. Sometimes it gets crowded but it is all the same enjoyable. Wilder hums to himself as he is lost in these thoughts. River hits him with a pillow which manages to bring him back to reality. “Come on now, big guy, we need another teammate.”    That’s what River does, day in, day out, just keep him grounded and stop him from stepping too far. He stops Wilder just when he is about to cross the line but Wilder says ‘f**k you’ and crosses it anyway. Then comes the big bad Alpha aka father and another lecture of being from a leader’s family. Apparently, even though he is the 3rd in line to Alpha title he still needs to behave according to it.     They play games and only after few rounds Wilder notices an absence in their team dynamic. “Wait, where is Theo?”  Theo, their youngest friend, is the best one at this game, and his absence is really noticeable when boys do not even make it too top 100.    “Ugh, f**k knows where. He is not answering my calls, probably still sleeping from last night.” Carter said and checked his phone. Nothing from Theo. River chuckled. “You should have seen him V’ Theo was drowning shots like never before.” Wilder laughed as River told how Theo chocked on one of the tequila shots. “I am guessing Adrian is in the same state?” Wilder asked the boys nodded. “I should have gone there, at least would have ended with some kind of s*x,” Wilder complained and tried to fix his hair away from his eyes.    “What was wrong with your date though?” Carter asked, still determined to get answers, if Wilder wasn’t going after the girl, he was definitely planning on getting her. “She... is of those kinds of humans who only do it after marriage.” Carter groaned. “Buzzkills.” Wilder rolled his eyes. “Well, there is plenty of fish in the sea, and I am sure most of them do not even believe in marriage.” He said referring to the closest human city. Werewolves were known to hang around there and some folks knew about it. As long as they did not murder and eat someone in cold blood, as people in Hollywood show them in movies, it was all fun and games.    River snorted. “Marriage, what a bullshit.” Carter nodded along but Wilder shook his head. “Well, it is the same kind of bullshit as ‘mates’ for life that are ‘chosen for us. I would prefer it If I choose who I am destined to f**k forever.” Other boys groaned and rolled their eyes, Wilder was getting into his anti- mating frenzy again.    “Alright, alright, I will shut up. But I will see you when you find your mates and don’t get to come to clubs anymore.” Wilder said and pointed his finger at them. “I really need to invest in new friends who are definitely going to be mate-less for a while.” He continued speaking his thoughts out loud as boys made their way to the clearing.   “That’s called underage people and they are not allowed to drink.” River reminded. He is right, everyone of age is pushed and taught to find their mate as soon as they can as if it was that important to make more pups. As if they don’t find it and anchor themselves down soon, Moon Goddess will come down and murder them. Wilder chuckled at this thought. Moon Goddess, sitting somewhere and doing her own little games on them, pairing them up and then killing one part and leaving the other to sulk and die. Everything is a game to her.   Well, if we all are her toys I plan on being the most broken one.  Wilder said to himself as his wolf form took over, the jet-black wolf howled as if further proving his point or maybe disagreeing with it. It was hard to understand and maybe Wilder didn’t want to understand, cause, either way, he wasn’t going to subject himself to the misery of relationship just to satisfy his wolf. If the need arises he was ready to quite him down to prove his point: not needing a long-term deal made by the faceless god who doesn’t even know him.
