| 20 | Tell me.

1218 Words
Demetrio's expression hardens further, his fists clenching as he fights the whirl of emotions rising within him, keeping his gaze on Amethyst. He knows what he's asking her, and what the truth might be to them repairing their relationship. After this, there may no longer be a chance for the two of them to reconcile... "Tell me..." he repeats, his voice cold as he blinks a few times at her. "...what you did, Amethyst." He speaks slowly. She closes her eyes, the shame so overwhelming she can barely stand, tears continuing to stream freely down her face. Her mind races back to that night—the flashing lights, the numbing haze of alcohol and drugs, the hands on her body, the faces blending together. She remembers how lost she felt, trying to fill a void that was widening inside her after the fear of what Demetrio may have been doing behind her back had festered into something she couldn't control... But now, standing before him, there's no escaping the guilt she feels once she realises she was wrong for acting the way she did before she knew the truth... "I... gave one of them head," she chokes out, her body trembling as she struggles to look Demetrio in the eyes. "And the other two... I... I gave them handjobs..." Demetrio's face is blank, though the muscles in his jaw tighten and he swallows the lump in his throat, his stomach turning as he listens to her explain herself... and he's starting to regret asking in the first place... "At the same time?" His question hangs in the air, cold and piercing making Amethyst's breath hitch as she clasps her hand over her chest, trying to control her crying and breathing. "Y-yes..." Amethyst nods, her face burning with shame, she can feel his disgust pressing down on her like a thousand stones and all she wants to do is crawl into a hole and die... "And what did they do to you?" he presses, his tone calm despite feeling at war with himself, completely sick to his stomach as he forces the truth out of her... "Where did they take you? On the wall? In the bathroom?" His tone sharpens, his anger becoming much harder to control than before. He can't hold back anymore and feels that he is only moments from losing it completely... Amethyst breaks, her sobs shaking her as she tries to speak. "T-they... I-I-I'm sorry, Demetrio... I... I slept with two of them... it wasn't supposed to be like this... I-I don't know why I..." She stammers over her own words as she rushes over to him and he can no longer keep it together, making his eyebrows crease as he looks away from her... "Amethyst come on..." Demetrio breathes out as he shakes his head, taking a few steps back as if her words physically strike him, his breath ragged. His mind spins as he tries to process everything she's just told him. The betrayal, the betrayal he never wanted to believe... The sickening images flash in his mind, and the anger rises, burning through the remnants of whatever love he once held for her... "I can't believe you... Amethyst..." His voice cracks slightly, but he holds firm, pushing the emotion back down. "You cheated on me... in more ways than one." The bitterness in his tone stings her like poison. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." Amethyst sobs harder, reaching for him instinctively, but Demetrio takes another step back, his eyes cold and distant. "I can't even look at you," he spits, continuing to shake his head as he struggles to bring her gaze back onto her. Amethyst stumbles forward, her hands covering her face, her mouth as she tries to suppress her cries, but he doesn't comfort her. He doesn't even move. The silence between them is filled by Amethyst sobbing and all Demetrio can do is watch her as she cries... The words cut through Amethyst, and she winces, feeling the full force of his accusation. The guilt is unbearable, but she can't help the surge of anger that rises in her chest. She still feels he pushed her to this... "You cheated on me first," she suddenly blurts out, her voice cracking as her tears continue to flow. Her hands shake as she wipes them away, hating herself for the vulnerability she's showing him. Demetrio shakes his head, his voice almost exasperated. "I never did anything with June when you and I were together, Amethyst. I never crossed that line. Not once... but you... we had our disagreements and you threw yourself at not one, not two... but 4 guys?" Demetrio carries on, his voice rising slightly before he quickly stops himself from losing his temper with her, "How many times has that happened in the past? Huh?" He begins to question, now thinking of how he might have to get tested because of her, just to make sure he hasn't caught anything, But Amethyst's pain runs too deep to accept his words at face value. "I might've physically cheated," she sobs, "but you were emotionally cheating on me, Demetrio. Just admit it..." Demetrio opens his mouth to argue, but her accusation holds truth behind it... She sees uncertainty in his eyes, the silent admission that maybe, just maybe, there's some truth in what she's saying... and that's all she wants... just for him to know how he messed up with her... "Did you ever sleep with June?" Amethyst's words tremble as she asks the question she dreads the most, her heart caught in her throat, bracing for the answer that might shatter her completely... Demetrio's silence stretches for what feels like an eternity, and when he finally speaks, his voice is low, almost resigned. "Yes. I did..." Amethyst's breath catches, the world around her blurring as her worst fear is confirmed. Her chest tightens painfully, but she forces herself to ask the next question, even though she's not sure she can handle the answer. "How many times...?" Her voice cracks, each word a struggle to get out. "Twice." His answer is simple, unadorned, but it feels like a dagger driven straight into her heart. Twice. The number echoes in her mind, each repetition pulling her further into despair. She doesn’t know what to say anymore… "I'm so f*****g stupid," Amethyst says, more tears welling up in her eyes. "I don't know why I keep getting played." Her voice trembles, the raw emotion flooding in. "Aurelio was just using me to get what he wanted and you... you had already fallen out of love with me." Demetrio looks at her, his eyes cold but filled with the kind of sorrow that only comes from betrayal. He watches her break down, the pieces of her carefully constructed walls crumbling. Demetrio, accepting how destructive things got between them realises that if they’re going to move on, he will need to accept his part of the blame… "I'm sorry we fell apart Amethyst... I'm sorry that I hurt you in any way, and that it couldn't work out between us...” he begins, knowing that she needs some sort of comfort right now and that he didn’t want to know the truth just to torture her, but so there would be no secrets between them…
